UK prices for Apple gear is not good - I got all mine from Singapore - a lot cheaper and no VAT - worth considering if heading South and fancy a (Shop)stopover

Got mine in Canada last year, still paid tax but so much cheaper than UK.

How many people actually turn down the updates? I mean, I knocked back the Skype one today, but in all honesty if it was installed it really wouldn't bother me that much.

I do.... because their testing policy is crap. I also especially dont like MS installing whatever they fancy.

So which updates do you turn down? All of them? Some of their updates have very little detail, I don't see how you could possibly pick and choose which ones are okay with any kind of knowledge or reason.

If you don't trust the MS testing, why use Windows at all?

Do you have to pay VAT when installing Windows 10 update?

Not sure, but I doubt Microsoft will like us talking about Macs or replying on Macs on this windows thread

Most are turned down.

Because I trust Apple even less....

Seriously? You work in IT and you have never had issues with updates? I have been in IT for nearly 15 years and I am constantly seeing issues with updates, from server firmware to Windows patching. Why do you think most companies have a patching cycle where everything is fully tested through various environments first?

ahh, Im a SQL Server specialist for Insurance and Financial industry ;) slightly different experience.

I thought the same as you Graham, anyone in IT has felt the patch rollback pain

Infrastructure engineer here and former MS Exchange specialist in the financial indistry.

I've had access to a couple of Windows 10 desktop and server VM's for a while. I much prefer the server over 2012 but reserve my professional judgement at this point as I've not used it in any real anger.

Have reserved my personal copy though, won't be installing it straight away mind.

The thing is that most are fine, but when that 1 does go wrong it creates such havoc that its not worth it. I only patch if there is something wrong or on our fully tested patching cycle (and even that is only certain releases, mostly SPs only).

If you look hard enough there's generally a release note somewhere on the web, with details.

I've yet to see a Windowz Known Error Log. Perhaps they're too long...

I'm still running Win 7, I never have any issues with it, so I can't see the reason to update to 10 until all of the programs I use for visual effects only work on that.

I just can't see what's better - is there some kind of comparison for it ?

If it just ran my programs faster then sure, I'd use it.

Windows 7 is still one of the best OSs from Microsoft.... infact, I am tempted to take my home machine down to Windows 7 from 8.1.

I cant say I've encountered any issues with Windows updates both at home, or at work over the past 4yrs while being involved with the month to month patch cycle. Sure there has been instances where a Windows Update has caused problems with other 3rd party software (McAfee DLP for example) but thats down to McAfee, not Windows.

Id imagine most "problems" are caused by other out-of-date systems/software/drivers rather than the Windows updates themselves.

Most of our clients are currently migrating from WinXP to Win8.1 (skipping Win7) in order to qualify for the free Win10 upgrade later on.

8.1 in a work environment, interesting.......... there are going to be a few complaints ;)

Speaking of Test Approaches. I was just reading some Agile bullshit in the office and it included this, which made me smile.

"I don't test my code often, but when I do, I do it in production."
