Dicky Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Anyone know if you can buy an electric version of the pneumatic gun they use in garages to remove nuts and bolts? They look to be very handy and if not big bucks I would buy one. Cheers 1 Quote

GMballistic Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Yes, you can get cordless impact guns ^^ What he said. Plenty of choice Dicky depending on your budget. You can get them at B&Q and other stores/eBay etc. Quote
Neilp Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I wouldn't buy any other impact gun other than snap-on, they're pricey though Quote
Humpy Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 The one Keyser used yesterday worked a treat, where is he when you need him eh Quote
BulletMagnet Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) My bro bought a Clarke one from Machinemart http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-cir220-24v-cordless-impact-wrench-2?da=1&TC=SRC-clarke%20impact%20gun Edited April 27, 2014 by BulletMagnet Quote
GMballistic Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I wouldn't buy any other impact gun other than snap-on, they're pricey though I love Snap On products too but as you say they are pricey. I've bought some genuine Snap On tools (mainly wrenches) from eBay before though at reasonable prices. There are a few cordless Snap On impact wrenches on there now as it goes. Auction prices starting at £100 and up. 1 Quote
Dicky Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Well at least I know what there called now, I was looking under hammer drill. I'll check them out. I'm also thinking of getting a pair of those drive on ramps, the ones you put a drill on to wind them up. There about £300 as I recall someone posting a while back. The problem is that money is just flying out at the moment oddly enough just after deciding to do my own servicing to save dosh. (see my post in the Servicing section if you want a laugh at my expense) Ho Hum. 1 Quote
Dicky Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 By gum there expensive! Anyone need the grass or hedge cut... For a small fee of course Quote
gsexr Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Be careful getting a cheap one as it wont provide much torque and wont undo much which will disapoint you. Quote
ZMANALEX Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I wouldn't buy any other impact gun other than snap-on, they're pricey though As what Neil has said, I have tried most of them and none get even close to Snap On, however probably more than you will require if it is just for occasional use. Alex. Quote
Wilster Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I've bought cheaper one fron machine mart to do a transit wheel bearing Didn't undo the nut and destroyed itself in no time atall. Now have a compressor and air impact gun. Quote
techinstaller Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 100 % agree with others regarding the snap on impact gun ,it really is the only one worth buying ,have found with the same with battery jump / boost pack the snap on unit is pricey but kills all competion Quote
Keyser Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 The one Keyser used yesterday worked a treat, where is he when you need him eh Here I am My bro bought a Clarke one from Machinemart http://www.machinema...arke impact gun That's the one I got, it is fine for moderate use the snap on is much better but 3 times the price. GMballistic Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Few on eBay auctions at various prices; http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=snap+on+cordless+impact+wrench&_sop=15 Quote
Dicky Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 When I think hard on it I've come to realise there's a certain sense of accomplishment when you struggle against the impossible nut or bolt, and what's wrong with breaker bars and good old fashioned No9 work boots on the end of a chewed up spanner anyway. Impact guns are for wimps!............I think. Quote
gsexr Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Always helps to have a 4 foot scaffold pole in stock for when the breaker bar aint enough. Looking on the bay and i see that torque multiplyer`s are getting cheap. Could be an alternative to the above ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Torque-Amplifier-Multiplier-Car-Garage-Wheel-Wrench-Tool-Kit-13Pc-Set-Hand-Winch-/331012423742?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4d11e0c03e Quote

Had a look at the link but can't figure how they work. Can you enlighten me please? Quote
AliveBoy Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I've been using this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000RUA0W6/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's lasted well at the 2 drift days I've done with it, lots of tyre changes etc Quote
rabbitstew Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Always helps to have a 4 foot scaffold pole in stock for when the breaker bar aint enough. Thats what I always use. To be honest I do have a compressor and an impact gun which runs off it, but I seldom ever use it. Much prefer the manual brute force method. Quote

It depends what you're doing I guess, as I always used to do it manually too. Until I went for a weekend of drifting and bruised the palms of my hands with all the changes I was doing and very quickly realised I couldn't get the nuts fully tight as I was easing off because my hands hurt so much. Now I have a breaker bar just to check the gun has them tight enough. 1 Quote
WhackyWill Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I bought one of these from HalfFrauds, it works very well for about a £10, fits all cars and is extendible. Quote
