didnt want to over rev it by accident, but if its got a limiter then no probs

Ah, I see now. That makes sense

Like every car ever made since the early '90s, the Zed does indeed have a rev limiter to stop you breaking things. Won't help with overrevs via a botched shift, though.

Which is downshifting to 2nd instead of 4th at 100mph, for example.

If only I had your tact

In the past over revivng the engines was bad, so wasnt sure it this car had any in built protection for over revving hence the question :-)

Hang on, you're confusing me now!

The Zed has NO protections against overrevs in the example I gave, on the way down through the gearbox. It only has protection from you booting it in gear and forgetting to change up.

There is a rev limiter but it only protects you on the way up, not the way down.. So in second gear at 2k RPM if you boot it all the way to 6.5k RPM the limiter will kick in and cut the fuel.

If you're doing 120mph and accidentally stick it in first gear, there is no saving you.

thats a matter of opinion about the redline jargon, no one i know calls it that, as for a cluster never heard of it , I must be getting old! , anyway, being new to the forum and to the 350z I just wanted some advise not to be put down by what i know or dont know , I thought forums were for helping people. anyone thanks for the advise

I'm pretty sure 90% of these posts gave you your answer, your question was answered in the 2nd reply.

People are asking justified questions, as you said it's a open forum, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Curious, what do you call the red line then?

I call it the line of red, as that's what it is. Careful of the moving one, as that's just the needle, that tells you the important bit, like when it gets close to the rev limiter line, which is red.

Now that we're all friends, I'm going to give you a bit of a ribbing over your ignorance. :)

I'm guessing you've been eating for the majority of your life and as a consequence you have had interactions with various different tools for getting the food from your plate (circular thing, about 21inches in circumference) to your mouth (located just below your nose). I've got money on you knowing what those various devices are called.

So you'll have to excuse a few people (me included) when we struggle to believe how you've had such an extensive car history and not managed to pick up on what a redline is. :p

There's also a shift light as standard on the 350z, which will illuminate - as a light does - and flash to tell you when to change gear. You can manually change the flash point of the light too so that you can get the perfect shift for your driving.

Yup I know what four star (leaded) petrol is and yup I've heard and seen manual chokes aswell. I'm pretty sure 90% of your car's had rev limiters apart from the diesel golf and the Isuzu trooper if it was a diesel. Like everyone else I'm struggling to believe that after all that time you haven't heard of a rev limiter or red line and that you are just trying to take the pi$$. But then again I'm constantly surprised by people on a daily basis, only the other day I caught my friend with his ear beside the petrol filler hole as he filled up because he didn't know that the fuel stopped when it was full and he's been driving for 10 years like this and no one ever told him

Datsun Cherry (Nissan actually took over Datsun)

Actually, Datsun created Nissan for the American market as they had killed quite a lot of them using Datsun aircraft.

And all of those cars you mention have rev limiters, the ones with rev counters have red lines as well. Shocking.
