Anyone out there owned a car longer than 10 years? Still got it?..............At what stage would you get rid? Sold it?...............Why?.............Regret? When I got a company car my Dad brought it from me and he still uses it as his every day car. Done over 140k now I believe and touch wood has only required exhausts, tyres and a regular oil change. BulletMagnet Posted July 14, 2011 Share Posted July 14, 2011 I had my last car for nearly ten years, a 1992 JDM Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC. bought it in standard trim and went on to mod it, bought a set of 17" alloys, imported a Ractive exhaust and induction kit from Canada, fitted full Tein coilovers and a VTEC controller that also lifted the limit at 112mph Only major stuff that went was oxygen sensors on the exhaust and some rust on the body that was cured by a full respray. Jed Posted July 14, 2011 Share Posted July 14, 2011 ive still got my triumph bonny i bought at 17 which was 1983 though i only ride her every now and again. My FLH HD ive had 14 years too n she's ridden all year round. The VW Trike ive had since 98 too. ive owned my MG ZT since 2003 when it only had 14 mile on the clock and she's got 106000 now. In all that time she's only had 1 set of injectors, 1 set of discs (Several pads) and an alternator. The Original exhaust has just started to blow and will need replacing. JetSet Posted July 14, 2011 Share Posted July 14, 2011 Yeah, just the one, had my Escort RS Turbo from new, 1989-2000, I think it had 116k on the clock when I sold it. Would have kept it longer but it needed a lot of work doing to it to get it through the MOT. The guy I sold it to fully restored it, must say that when I saw pics of it I was longing to have it back! Had a Trans Am for 11 years Decided to get rid one cold February morning when I was filling a leaking rad whilst balancing the bonnet (hood?) on my head due to lazy gas struts Bought for £7500 sold for £1500 (cheap motoring ) No regrets Had the Zed from new for nearly 7 years ..............I was the longest owning member here and our NZ member Bronzee now is AFAIK Would have kept it forever if the oil problems hadn't come up Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sam Mcgoo Posted July 14, 2011 Share Posted July 14, 2011 Yeah, Just one, My '73 Mk3 Cortina 2000 GXL. Bought in 1997 for £250 put it in a shed and sold it in 2009 for £3500. I generally keep my cars a while. I had my 300zx 8 or 9 years... And my Supra 6 years... I love the Zed so can't see my getting rid very quickly. I didn't drive her much the last few years due to using the Supra as my daily drive but still very much enjoyed her when I did. Unfortunately I lost my storage and we didn't have room for them all at the house so had to get rid. I used the money to get the 350 though, so not all bad. Currently ive got: 1972 Mini 850cc - Had this for 20 years now. 1988 Renault 5 GT Turbo - Had this for 14 years. 1994 Kawasaki ZXR750L2 - Had this for 13 years 1999 Yamaha R1 - Had this for 10 years now 1996 Honda VFR750F - Had this for 10 years also. Only had the zed since March, so thats the baby of the family. I really should get around to selling some of my toys, but hate all the hassle which goes with it.
