I think it's easy fur people like us to get distracted by quality with dashcams because we want them to be go pro quality. Really though as long as it's clear enough to show lights working or not, or who pulled out, that's all you really need.

At the end of the day dash cam or not it was the vehicle in the junctions responsibility to wait and assess your movement. Even if the other driver claims he saw an indicator they are still at fault in making the assumption you were turning. The position of the impact looks to me like the driver did see you initially (hard to miss a white car) but then directed their gaze in the opposite direction and assuming you had already passed by pulled out. Could be wrong but it bears the hallmark of driver assumption.

I keep thinking to get a dash cam. Got one for my parents but this Is a good reminder

Without getting into the arguments about dashcam features (how many cameras you need, does it do HDR, has it got an app, can it make coffee etc.) these bundles are superb. Everything for a hardwire job in one go, 15-30 minute install, once it's done you never need touch it unless the worst should happen.

I'm surprised the Tesla doesn't auto upload it's data including cameras as soon as it detects a collision, as it doesn't I'd request a feature update as they have the sensors and tools already in place.

Apparently it does, records and stores all the images, it's just Tesla doesn't make it available to the public for some reason.

The car also knew it was in a crash as I had a call from Tesla about 10 minutes after the incident to check if I was ok because the car had called home and had disabled its main battery.

Have just ordered another dash cam for my wife's car and will fit one to the loaner X when it arrives too..... People just don't seem to bother looking when driving these days.

If not release to the public (I'm sure a request for any of your data is covered under U.K. Law) but at least the insurance companies or authorities should have access with the correct paperwork.

Anyway, I digress glad no one hurt and it will be taken care of.

Edit: I have this theory about white and black cars that people seem blind to them, I've had one of each and on both occasions I'd often get people pulling out of junctions etc and not see me.

Good on you, I have one fitted to my Dailey and to the Zed, I do see plenty of Muppets on the road, that's why they are a god idea. Only a matter of time before they pay for themselves.

My theory is SUVS and MPVS. Whenever I drive the zafira or crashqai people always pull out on me as they assume I'm going to dawdle along. Same in a van. But if I'm in the company car or the zed it never happens.

@Jay interesting theory, I ended up driving around with dipped lights all the time on my last black car (98 Escort had it from nearly new) and that seemed to help.

The OH has a red Santa Fe now and we don't see many pulling out in front but as said running red lights seem the norm these days. Not sure if that's down to them no longing waiting a couple of seconds after the other set have gone to red before going amber though or at least that's what Cheshire West have implemented here.

Edit sorry we've gone OT gang.

Didn't it used to be the case that insuring a black car was slightly more expensive and yellow was cheaper or was that an urban myth :) Common sense dictates the brighter the colour the easier your seen. Either way I assume the Tesla has DRL? He saw you I expect but underestimated either your approach speed or passing speed and averted the gaze in the opposite direction before manoeuvring.

I always forget to remove the dashcam from the work car and transfer to the zed, so I think i'll just get one for the zed. Should probably get one for the SO too, like Stu said, it doesn't need to be 4k HD, expensive job, the minimum requirements I'd personally go for is forward facing with a wide angle and a memory card.

I'd say GPS and G sensor also, will help when something occurs off camera.

Think I paid ~£110 for those features

Been doing some research, the Viofo A119S looks pretty good and has received quite a few good reviews. priced around £85 I think that's pretty reasonable. Techmoan did a good review of it and has rated it his overall best dash cam. I will get it at on payday I think. Oh yea, does have GPS too which could be useful.

Personally I'm wary of GPS, I don't want 55 in a 50 to be the decision maker when somebody drives into me.

i know what you mean but there is an answer to that but if you are worried best not to have one as they can be confiscated by police if the accident is bad enough with whatever history you have on the memory card available.

I'm getting old, I only tend to have a heavy foot up to the speed limit these days anyway so not too worried from that perspective but I may have to review my OH's history to be safe .

Dashcams are great I think everyone should have one. I also think insurers should offer discount if one is fitted. I can see why they won't.

Some insurers do give a discount , I've had £50 off from one and £30 from another so my camera is paid for many times over , in fact getting this footage got me £200 which I split with the Supra driver because I'm a nice guy

I have a Blackvue front and rear facing one now and its excellent it has wi-fi so I can see/save/upload footage on my phone , I used to have a cheaper G1W in my daily and they are ok but you can certainly see the difference between it and a more expensive one

Sorry to hear this and glad you're ok. Cars can be replaced.

As someone who works in this industry just be mindful of being sat in a expensive hire car for weeks on end. If you have the means to replace your car you should. You have a duty to mitigate your losses.

The dash cam should mean this comes to a swift end.

I'm not entirely sure this is true, there is an old law which stops you from self incrimination. At least that's what I was told  just snap the memory card if the knock was your fault :stir:

Absolutely, as posted on the other thread, my mate had a range rover he got replaced like for like when it was in for repairs and got called on it. Nothing happened in the end but it was a stressful time for him

Me too... I'm reluctant however as I don't particularly want to take it to Halfords to get one fitted (don't fancy doing it myself). May just bite the bullet and get down there this weekend

Fitting is a doddle for a basic camera, I did it and Im cack handed at most things. Stick it to screen, pull back interior trim and push wire behind, do this around the window of the car then down the side and round to cigarette lighter, job done. Took me 10 mins?
