Is there such a thing as ceramic laquer

Contemplating getting my Zed painted (again) next year, had it done a year ago but got chipped to death during our NC500 tour.

It's really #issing me off lately and I know if i shell out for another respray and it gets stoned again I'm really gona lose the plot lol.

Was reading about ceramic coatings for wheels after they've been painted that stand up to the test but is there an equivalent for lacquering body paint to give the protection from stone chips. Thought about a clear wrap after painting but knowing my luck it would get chipped on the way to the wrappers.

EDIT: I'm asking about a ceramic clear coating that would be sprayed on by the paint shop

I'd go clear wrap, that way you can easily see when it's due for a replacement.

Gonna clamber into my flame suit, but I don't care what coating companies say, any kind of coating is only a fraction of the thickness of a wrap, so the protection just can't be as good.

I see your thinking but won't the film get marked also and possibly look like lacuer peel does ?

Thought about Zippypooz ppf stuff but I don't think he does kits for aftermarket bumpers, i've got the Amuse front end.

Saw a white car that had that clear film on it , it changed the colour slightly and had big lines of dirt around the edges , if stone chips bother you that this would

Better getting a colour thats easy to touch up and enjoying the car imo

A) yes you can get ceramic lacquers. Some manufacturers (Merc and Audi for example) use it from factory and it's a swine to detail.

B) you can ceramic coat bodywork same way as wheels are done. Modern ceramics are 9h hardness

C) PPF like suntek, XPEL and the like can provide film protection.

Ceramic paint would be a specialist bodyshop

Ceramic coating would be a bod like me and can last 5-7 years.

PPF have a shelf life like wrap. Cheap ones can yellow. I believe wax can cause the film to do that as well.

This is true. A self healing film will always give better protection that a coating but these coatings are HARD!

Gtechniq for example needs to be wet sanded off if you **** it up.

Film will probably be the same cost for front end as ceramic coating a whole car.

Film may yellow and only lasts so long

Film personally I feel must alter the behaviour of the paint (fleck, metallic, reflection, pearl) to some degree (albeit potentially minor).

Assuming you can follow the link that's my test car for SiRamik SC15. 3-5 year protection (obviously all the caveats about it being cleaned properly and bi annually coated with SC Mist - which is cheap and you can do it yourself).

I'm also about to become approved by SiRamik for their pro range ATP system. That is a 3 stage coating with the latter coat being Diamas......a Diamond Nanorod based solution.

Oooh, interesting! *ilogikal1 does his best meerkat impression*

Yeah I won't pretend and understand what the hell a Diamond Nanorod is but basically it's rock hard!

He's also been tinting some of the coatings with some sort of pigmented fleck which is an unusual slant on things.

The rumours of PPF turning yellow are a little outdated - earlier versions yes, the latest suntek and Xpel should last up to 10 years

although its true that some petroleum based waxes will also have this effect

What kind of dosh are we talking to get this lacquer work done mate, PM me if you prefer

Single stage machine polish and ceramic coating with SC15 is £395 mate.

For the APT system it's a bit more but I'm not approved just yet so can't confirm exactly. For the Diamas coating it's more again

This is a ceramic coating and not a ceramic lacquer though.

If you want ceramic lacquer you need to speak to a specialist bodyshop

I don't think you will ever stop stone chips unless you give this a go . . .

I am starting to see more vehicles with lips and bumpers sprayed with Line-x, they can match any colour apparently. I guess it depends how much you really hate stone chips. This stuff is tough as old boots . . check out this video . . .

I will be spraying the Jeep grille and arches with it over the winter I think . . and then the rest. A nice candy apple red. No more polishing . . just jet wash and go

I can do kits for aftermarket bumpers but would need to template it. Thanks for the mention though!
