coldel
they also have between 4 and 6 lanes. Incorrect, unless I speed down the wrong roads. Sure yours didnt have rustling bushes and arable land either side?! But you get my point, comparing this to Autobahns is chalk and cheese. But a tyre blow out at 130 on the Autobahn is going to have the same effect as it would down a duel carriage way. Not having a pop, just debating. But I don't get why if I say I did 150 down the Autobahn, no one would bat an eye lid and say I'm lucky to be alive. But If I did it down a duel carriage way, exact same weather circumstances etc. I'd be executed.
coldel
Because an autobahn is quite a fair bit larger than an A road, doesnt have large trees running up and down the sides of it, it has crash barriers designed to absorb impacts of 70mph+ has wider run off spaces. There is actually an advised speed limit for the autobahn, and a lot of people choose to adhere to it, and yes going at 150 on an autobahn is more dangerous than doing 70 on a UK motorway hence the more deaths that happen on it. People cannot call you up on it as legally you are not breaking the law, but doing 129mph in a road set and designed to 70mph is just dangerous driving and I think Dan hinted above that the OP could come into that category which is not just a fine. The autobahn goes from J1 of the M23 all the way to central Europe, right??
ZEUS
A wealthy friend of mine was in a similar predicament a couple of years ago , I think he had six points already and was caught at 120+. He hired a legal team from London who specialise in speeding cases and argued that he needed his car for his job, his kids would suffer etc...... End result, he got banned for 6 months, had a £2500 fine and still had 12 points on his licence when he got it back. The legal bill was around £7000 ( he never told me the exact amount) . We all speed at some point and you got caught , take the punishment and don't waste a load of money on a solicitor as I think the end result will be the same.
Payco
You missed my point or didn't read all my thread Mouthwash. I said I was wrong to do 36 in a 30 and took my medicine and have understood the errors of my ways. Just saying this guy is lucky to be alive driving at that speed and he already has 6 points !!. Jetpilot
Just saying this guy is lucky to be alive driving at that speed What a load of utter tosh. Whilst it is completely irresponsible and i have no sympathy, being alive and driving at speed has absolutely no relation.

Ricey
So, just to be clear, Payco condemns speeding in open areas but is on-board for a bit of speeding around in built up areas? I wonder who's more likely to take a life, the guy speeding past a school for disabled kids at 3pm or the guy speeding down a deserted A road. It's a bit like smoking weed or crack though isn't it.......One is far more likely to end in tears. Totally agree with Dan though OP. Flog the car and I reckon it will go far more in your favour than you'd give it credit for. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Flex
I love to drive at over 100mph in the UK. At my local track, snetterton. OP, I'm not going to pass dudgement, we all do things wrong and make mistakes, some worse than others. If you learn from it then at least some good will have come out of the situation. Just show how sorry you are to the court.
Payco
Sorry Jetpilot. As correctly pointed out by Col, anything could happen driving at silly speeds and you have much less control over your car at the speed he was driving at. If he had a blow out or reason to swerve my money would be on the outcome being ugly for him and the car. If you think you aren't risking your life driving at that speed (off a track) then that's your opinion but its certainly not mine. Lets not fall out on opinions though buddy. Payco
OP. Just a thought. Why don't you ask if you can give the 6 points to Sam Allardyce, he could with them.
T-Bear
Wow, this is a can of worms.... and all i wanted was a pointer for someone who might be able to represent me. Very much a camp of two types. 1) Those who are empathetic and understand that perhaps owning a powerful car might involve speed, so long as you're not stupid with it. 2) ... and those who are mightily scared at the prospect of speed and condone anything but law abiding goodness. As a note, doing 60mph on a B road through twisties is within the law but on the balance of probability more dangerous that 129mph on a 3(inc hard) lane straightish road. Accelerating hard in a built up area where you're putting more stress through the car is more likely to create a failure and see you heading into a house than driving like I did. Whilst I do have to concede that it wasn't the best of choices speeding I morally sit on my perch knowing that on the balance of probability my choice to drive as i did would not have an impact on other road users/pedestrians in my vicinity, unlike the driving often seen that is 'within the law'. Out of curiosity, if your car were to slip, fail or head towards something you'd rather not... How many of you have recently done an emergency stop, allowed the car to slide and performed practice skills recently if the worst should happen? If not, you probably should. For those of you in camp #2, you should probably get on a track and start to understand what you car is capable of, more so you'd probably find your limits first. #That is all.

Tinyflier
... on an empty bit of well sighted dual carriageway, things don't jump out at you. A policeman did exactly that didn't he? We all push the upper boundaries of speed limits at times but this will be regarded as a deliberate and wilful disregard for limits and punished accordingly. Whether it is within the driver's or car's ability is completely irrelevant. We have speed limits that are expected to be adhered to and we transgress them with the awareness of consequence. ZEUS
I've also had a deer jump out on me on a well sighted dual carriageway. I hit it.
JetSet
Unless you've also been charged with other debatable offences like dangerous driving then quite frankly you're wasting your money hiring a solicitor if presumably you plead guilty. brillomaster
fair point, wildlife and policeman can jump out of anywhere at any time, but i was comparing the frequency and severity of the impact - in a built up area, its children who will be killed - on motorways its foxywoxy, rabbity wabbity or policeyweecy, all of which are a lot more expendable having a deer jump out on you was very unlucky, but again, i probably would slow down when i saw the wildlife warning signs. in the same way welsh roads are self policing, always have to be hesitant when passing sheep! of course it is a willful and blatant disregard of the speed limit, but if someone was inclined to do nearly twice the speed limit, i'd personally much rather they did 130 in a 70 zone than 55 in a 30 zone. brillomaster
i would also say that 55 in a 30 should be punished a lot more harshly than 130 in a 70 zone, although i actually think its the exact opposite. anyone know what kind of sentence you'd be looking at for doing 55 in a 30? EDIT: http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/SpeedVSFines/SpeedVSFines.htm#speedvsfine seems small bans for 50-60 in a 30, first big ban is for 82 in a 40 zone. At the other end of the spectrum, 120-130 in a 70 zone is indeed 2 month ban territory. Edited December 10, 2015 by brillomaster
