davey_83 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Worthy of starting a new thread, possibly not but............. So I've had my 350z for just over four weeks and while I'm not in the car the disklok is on - safety first. With having a new sports GT, family and mates of course want a passenger ride which I'm more than happy to a bilge. However then where does the disklok go? I've had it in the passenger foot well all this time when driving argh. Well tonight I thought hey long shot, but will a disklok fit in a 350s glovebox - YES. What other car, let alone a sports cars glovebox can house a disklok haha Ahhh the little things David Quote
Jp606 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I love my zed too, owned it for 2 and a half years now and still have a huge grin every time I drive it. Quote
veeg33 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Never knew the disklok will fit into the glove box....... Mines are on the passenger's foot well most of the time and occasionally in the boot (secured with cargo net). Time to clear out my glove box..... Edited October 19, 2015 by veeg33 1 Quote

colesl4w Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I am someone who knows literally nothing about car security. How much security do these steering wheel locks offer? Can a 350Z be hotwired, even though it has an immobiliser? I was always under the impression that the car couldn't be stolen unless they had the keys or put it on a tow truck. Am I wrong? Quote
valy Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 gosh I made the mistake and bought one of this diskloks when they came out what a waste of money...still sitting in my garage for the last couple of years.... Quote
zebedy Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 ok guys, so time to fess up what you do actually use, if anything. Me, Ive got the straight bar steering lock that hits the windscreen as you try and turn. Obviously not very good, but isnt it about trying to get the thief to move on and try another car thats without one?> (hassle factor) ? Quote
zebedy Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I quite like the idea of a removable steering wheel though. But where do you put it?? Quote
SHEZZA Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I've also got a disc lock which I stash under the cargo net when not in use. Never even thought about the glove box though so this is a good call. Haha though if I was to put it in there I'd have no further use for the net so it can stay put. Haha Quote
Jay Kay Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I have one of those too but haven't used it in years. They weigh quite a bit and I have often wondered if they could cause any kind of damaged weighing down on the steering wheel constantly? Quote
Davectr Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 They are consistently rated very highly in security tests, probably the best steering wheel locking device you can buy. Albeit they are a bit cumbersome, but a good deterrent 1 Quote
GMballistic Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I quite like the idea of a removable steering wheel though. But where do you put it?? I saw a car before with a removable steering wheel and the owner had welded a D-lock type arrangement to the floor of his boot so every time he left the car he just locked the steering wheel in the boot. Thought that was the best solution I'd seen, ...beats walking around carrying a steering wheel anyway. Quote

daveallen1999 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Thank you, Dave. I know where to put mine when I forget to leave my disklok at home before a track-day. 1 Quote
M1 6RYF Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I just bought a D1 spec quick release wheel hub and a NRG short hub, once I buy a wheel and fit them, the wheel will live in the house at night. I wonder how many times I will get in the car without the wheel? 1 Quote
veilside z Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Do you use it overnight or whilst daily drives too ? Quote
Cleisthenes Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 If I didn't live in the middle of nowhere I would certainly consider one of these, but are they not a huge hassle whenever you leave the car? Quote
davey_83 Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) at least you come back to your car................. i tend to only use mine overnight tbf Edited October 22, 2015 by davey_83 Quote
DonCool Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Have never thought of getting a steering lock. The Zed has always seemed fairly impenetrable to me. I would have thought it was more likely to get nicked if they get hold of your keys somehow. Quote

My thinking was that if they really wanted it they'd just break into my house or jump me when I'm getting into it. Quote
