My "I'm not gonna mod this car" roadster
Stutopia replied to Davectr's topic in Member Build Projects
Area under the line, low down, looks like a great improvement. -
I can't wait to see the build thread as it will be exciting new territory but I do think if the brain overuled the heart, Octet's on the money, use it to get a '70 and they've done the NA build for you (with a decent R&D budget too!) and they chuck in a better interior for free!

Shame it was BMW and not one of those Beetles he likes.
-
Pretty sure your thinking of the other one which is a solid metal bloc thats suspended from two brackets that wobbles etc. Located by the spare wheel. The one in the photo above seems to be just a boot counter weight. Mine has been removed resulting in a lighter boot to open etc. I thought the wobbly one was for roadsters and the boot one for coupes. My coupe doesn't have a wobbler. I could easily be mistaken though.
-
I've used them but like yourself and GM I found it was better to seek out the bulb you want than rely on the plate checker.
-
You're on fire on this thread mate, keep 'em coming. End of subject.
-
Up until recently I thought it was just a weight, but I'm sure I read a post on a corresponding roadster part where Zmanalex dug out some info on how it dampens vibrations. I whipped mine out to try and deal with crap boot pop and insufficiently stiff boot struts.

I was a drive thru car wash user until I got the Zed a couple of years ago and started to learn about washing with care. I have learnt tons from watching lots of short vids, but I think this pulls all the basics into one place and minimises the need for reading lots of guides/threads on day 1. Regular readers will know I'm a fan of AMMO vids/products, I know detailing provokes lots of different opinions on different techniques and different products, but I honestly think most people would agree that if you can follow the simple steps outlined in this video and experiment with any half decent products, you'll be able to keep your paint spot on with minimal fuss. It's kind of long, but it only needs one watch really to absorb the messages. I wish this was made when I started to learn, as it basically is the regular wash I've gotten into a routine of doing. This is a wash only vid, it's not correction or anything advanced, personally, I think it's worth a sticky in the detailing forum (do you?) as it's something that pops up semi-regularly. If people could please post up a couple of their favouritst, 5 star products and the jobs they use them for, it could be a heck of a resource.

I've been quite impressed by the data logging on Dash Command and being able to export to CSV

TBH I'll drink anything with booze in, but I've been getting more familiar with Martini's of late than proper drinks Magnet's just one of those old man northern drinks that you don't see about much these days.
-
Are you still drinking that warm Mild stuff Stu? Moved on, strictly pints o' Magnet for me

Always wave/flash up North, then again, we're not in a rush to get home to an ice cold shandy though

Needs to go in a Zed, Zed shed boys can probably sort it

It's been a while, but here goes! We can assign a value to the original plenum volume, say it's Z You measure the internal volume of spacer (sand/oil/geometry/whatever method) and it turns out to be 50cm3. From the 12% increase figure quoted, we can say the original volume (Z) + the 50 you measured = original volume (Z) +12% Which is just the same as Z + 50 = 1.12 x Z This can be solved for Z, which is the original volume of the plenum. SOLVING Z + 50 = 1.12 x Z Move all terms containing Z to the left, all other terms to the right. Add '-1.12Z' to each side of the equation. 50 + Z + -1.12Z = 1.12Z + -1.12Z Combine like terms: Z + -1.12Z = -0.12Z 50 + -0.12Z = 1.12Z + -1.12Z Combine like terms: 1.12Z + -1.12Z = 0.00 50 + -0.12Z = 0.00 Add '-50' to each side of the equation. 50 + -50 + -0.12Z = 0.00 + -50 Combine like terms: 50 + -50 = 0 0 + -0.12Z = 0.00 + -50 -0.12Z = 0.00 + -50 Combine like terms: 0.00 + -50 = -50 -0.12Z = -50 Divide each side by ‘-0.12'. Z = 416.6666667 So if the volume of the spacer is 50cm3 and it delivers a 12% volume increase, the original volume of the plenum is 416.67cm3 Alternatively, you can put the original Z + 50 = 1.12 x Z equation into this website: https://mathway.com and just swap the 50 I made up for the demonstration for the actual value you measure inside the plenum spacer. The answer Z will be the volume you are looking for. In short, original plenum volume = your measured spacer volume divided by 0.12

I love how it's the existing Brembos causing the issues, not the new purchase -

I actually prefer the smoother ass on the top photo -
REALLY?!? I say, if the pistonheads man says it, it must be true. I also say that Clarkson says stuff and that's all equally true, so surely that brings this to its natural conclusion.
-
Given the plenum spacer is a known set of dimensions, can't you calculate the volume of air "inside" the spacer, then using the 12% figure, work back to find out the original volume? Or apply the sand/oil method to a spacer (not on the car) sat on a flat surface, then use that to caluclate the volume?

potential purchase question

along I'd suggest checking out the traders on here for pads and discs, Clark Motorsport, Cougarstore, Tarmac Sportz - they're all really good and can cover normal road stuff right through to track grade. http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/93-professional-traders/ Good luck with the Zed viewing! -
Did the RE050a even exist when the 350z was designed?
