Rocker cover grommets - no need to replace entire RC
RobPhoboS replied to RobPhoboS's topic in 350Z Technical
Nearly done! I thought I'd stop at 1am last night, hah. I just wanted to get to the point of having the covers and rtv in place so they could set. Give yourself plenty of time to do this, I did as I knew it would take me a lot longer as I've not done this before. I'll get photos up later today. -
I will get one for my nephew to use on his car seat as well. Very good design, and proven better with than without even just from a 'safety' point of view.
-
Just a super quick review here. If you like the occasional spirited drive, on track or b-roads etc I'd highly recommend picking one of these up (around £45-50). They basically lock the seat belt at the hips, so your fat butt won't slide around any more, takes a few moments to install or move to another car. I believe it's been re-designed a couple of times, so it won't fall apart (which did happen to a mates one years ago), it does exactly what it says

I'm using the yellow stuff pads (just over a year), dusty as feck but I don't care about that. Just use Sonax full effect wheel cleaner Very good stopping power, especially when up to temp (well, that's all brake pads) but in my case I'm still trying to get the pedal rock solid near the top of the pedal travel (not the pads fault, just bleeding). But I'm tempted to try the DS2500's next.

££££ ? £499.01 it looks like

Your not going to tell me the further north he lives the more under steer he will get are you ???? You read my mi... Naa, haha, just that I've had a few mates race their E46's in the 24hr Britcar etc So could point him towards the guy's that set their cars up.
-
Last thing, where are you based ?
-
As above... And just in case: (looking at other threads of this nature and clutching at straws as I've no idea) no harm in trying some injector cleaner first. possible head gasket (have coolant levels gone down?? but more likely to just be white smoke) check the PCV valves as well (someone reported it being snapped in half!) check the oil pressure sender is tightened up.
-
It might be worth asking this on the wheels in motion forum as well (they do road/track/drift set ups) Just a quick google brings up: Mid-corner (mid-phase) understeer • Excessive front tire pressure • Excessive relative front roll stiffness • Excessive front toe (in or out) • Excessive Ackermann steering geometry • Insufficient front dynamic camber • Relatively narrow front track width • Insufficient front wheel travel (car rolls onto packers or bottomed shock) • Insufficient droop travel (on non droop limited cars)

Many many thanks again Adrian for meeting me at the station and sorting the rocker cover kits out and the keyring. I'll be doing this over the weekend.
-
Just get onto ebay or amazon and find the right sized gaskets with next day delivery - they aren't special, and don't forget to use gasket sealant !

The amount of bolts and nuts I've rounded or snapped led me to being overly anal about torquing correctly now
-
As SHEZZA said, the only thing I'd add to that is using a torque wrench to the correct setting (I do this on all bits n bobs now anyway): 24.5 N·m (2.5 kg-m, 18 ft-lb) http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-350z-factory-service-manuals.html (PDF = EM - page 34)

I have a couple of top tips. Don't worry about mega pixels, or an expensive camera body - spend your cash on lenses (if you can change them). I prefer prime lenses (so that means you are locked into the focal length) over zooms but zooms have their uses. Lower 'f' numbers will give you a nice shallow depth of field, combined with a variable ND filter (for sunny days esp), there are plenty of reviews on youtube. Typically expensive IS better but not always, just do your research and look at examples all over the web. Shoot the photo's in RAW (never JPG). This'll give you flexibility to adjust many more things in post.

EDIT - UPDATE: Don't worry we have the alignment tool in there, so all good Also Adrian will be mailing out the rest of the kits tomorrow for us. & this is the hole cutter I bought @ 51mm (2 inch was the US one used) http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a841398b1 -
Please use the search, it does work - and this isn't a unique question If you struggle - then use this kind of search which is MUCH better: copy and paste into google: site:350z-uk.com best intake The stock filter is good, an intake just makes more noise - that's about it. Buy one you think is pretty Have a look (for example): http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/95176-torqen-350-de-hr-air-intake-kits/

I also bought a 51mm hole saw bit (they use a 2" one, which is 50.8mm) on ebay, just in case (as I wasn't sure if it's part of the loaned out alignment tool or not). -
I've said it a bunch of times but I don't like the Tesco stuff, it's got a lot of additives in it to make the numbers (and a good friend had issues with it and won't touch it again). So my car is 99% of the time filled up with Shell V-Power Nitro+ (hah daft name).
