  1. Hey guy's, just got back to London, I've done around 70 miles now, stopping a few times to just double check things over. Except for the stink of oil that landed on the manifold yesterday, all seems well and I'm having my celebratory beer now! At some point tomorrow I'll get some pics/tips up.
  2. I left the car running until the fans kicked in about an hour ago, no leak, I'm guessing it was just a bit of grit that caused the problem. I'll order a new O ring anyway, and later I'll be running the car and checking the rocker covers. Cheers guys.
  3. Actually I think it was a spec of grit on one of the washers. I reassembled it, fired it up and it seems OK now. I'll check a bit later properly as I'm waiting for the rvt to cure fully on the rc gasket.
  4. I finished up again last night at 2:30am haha. It only took an hour to strip it back down but then just took my time cleaning it up again. I'm praying to the v6 God's that it's ok this time.
  5. I had to undo the 2 bolts holding the fuel pipe connection, as shown in the pic. Prior to that I released the pressure as stated in the manual. The 2 bolts and washers look fine as well as the O ring on the pipe connecter, I torqued them up to just under 10nm (9.6nm in the manual). Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
  6. If you're going to be tracking it a bit, get a couple of cooling ducts, cold air feeds made (demon tweeks sell the parts), that should help out a fair bit as well. If you search on the US forums, you'll see plenty of pics. When was the last time you bled the rbf600? (As iirc that fluid is meant to be done every 6 months!) Lastly I thought it was ideal to do one cool down lap and bring it in for 10-20 mins and then head back out.
  7. Did they firm up some time after cooling down?
  8. Yeah just the edge of the rocker, around one of the bolts... Soo just about to get on with it and do that side again. I either pinched it or not quite enough rvt around that one specifically.
  9. Ah nice one! Well I just finished putting everything back together. Fired it up just to make sure I connected everything, no problem... But some oil is seeping out from the right bank (or left if you're looking at it from the front), just on the cover bolt 4. I tightened it up a fraction more but I don't know what to do. Just having a break, was thinking to put some more rtv down in that spot. Arrrgh.
  10. Obviously this question was tumbling around my head as I've just done the grommet replacement. It's obviously something to do with the design and I wonder if they just ran out of r & d time? (I don't know how many miles they put on their development cars but probably not quite enough).
  11. Nearly done! I thought I'd stop at 1am last night, hah. I just wanted to get to the point of having the covers and rtv in place so they could set. Give yourself plenty of time to do this, I did as I knew it would take me a lot longer as I've not done this before. I'll get photos up later today.
  12. I will get one for my nephew to use on his car seat as well. Very good design, and proven better with than without even just from a 'safety' point of view.
  13. Just a super quick review here. If you like the occasional spirited drive, on track or b-roads etc I'd highly recommend picking one of these up (around £45-50). They basically lock the seat belt at the hips, so your fat butt won't slide around any more, takes a few moments to install or move to another car. I believe it's been re-designed a couple of times, so it won't fall apart (which did happen to a mates one years ago), it does exactly what it says
  14. I'm using the yellow stuff pads (just over a year), dusty as feck but I don't care about that. Just use Sonax full effect wheel cleaner Very good stopping power, especially when up to temp (well, that's all brake pads) but in my case I'm still trying to get the pedal rock solid near the top of the pedal travel (not the pads fault, just bleeding). But I'm tempted to try the DS2500's next.
  15. ££££ ? £499.01 it looks like
  16. Your not going to tell me the further north he lives the more under steer he will get are you ???? You read my mi... Naa, haha, just that I've had a few mates race their E46's in the 24hr Britcar etc So could point him towards the guy's that set their cars up.
  17. As above... And just in case: (looking at other threads of this nature and clutching at straws as I've no idea) no harm in trying some injector cleaner first. possible head gasket (have coolant levels gone down?? but more likely to just be white smoke) check the PCV valves as well (someone reported it being snapped in half!) check the oil pressure sender is tightened up.
  18. It might be worth asking this on the wheels in motion forum as well (they do road/track/drift set ups) Just a quick google brings up: Mid-corner (mid-phase) understeer • Excessive front tire pressure • Excessive relative front roll stiffness • Excessive front toe (in or out) • Excessive Ackermann steering geometry • Insufficient front dynamic camber • Relatively narrow front track width • Insufficient front wheel travel (car rolls onto packers or bottomed shock) • Insufficient droop travel (on non droop limited cars)
  19. Many many thanks again Adrian for meeting me at the station and sorting the rocker cover kits out and the keyring. I'll be doing this over the weekend.
  20. Just get onto ebay or amazon and find the right sized gaskets with next day delivery - they aren't special, and don't forget to use gasket sealant !
  21. The amount of bolts and nuts I've rounded or snapped led me to being overly anal about torquing correctly now
