FYI: The sat-nav doesn't support postcodes (you have to enter road names... grrr) and you can't add POIs so no speed camera info etc... therefore I wouldn't worry too much about sat-nav as you may be better with an aftermarket 1, search for Nurrish satnav on this site for an example. Wish I knew that before getting mine tbh.

Weight over the rears could be a factor, I drove a MR2 turbo in the snow a few times and that wasn't too bad, think that was 225 rears iirc but it was MR so heavy rear. Chelsea tractor drivers are annoying though when they zoom up and sit on your rear bumper in the snow, a little tap of the loud peddle to step the back end out a little always put a priceless expression on their face though followed by them backing off.

That's correct, but if I go for Vreds on the back I'd want Vreds on the front also. Anyway, Pneus would cost £653.22 for all 4. I also found tyrexpress.com, £562.12 for all 4 and they have stock! You can also select your local fitter for the tyres to be delivered to on the site and they'll call you to book a fitting when they arrive which is nice. Still not as cheap as tyremen (£515) but cheaper than Camskill (£574.60). NOW for the REALLY good news! When I got my service recently I got a full health check as well as it's a newly purchased car and wanted to be safe (and my brother's the sales manager at the Nissan stealer so it was cheap )... anyway... they told me I had 2mm left on the rear nearside tyre... I just checked to see if I could get away with just replacing the rears for more stones... and I have 5-6mm all round!!! My only concern is if the stealers can't even read tyre depths, can I trust the rest of their health check?!? At least I know I'm not going insane, I could have sworn I checked the tyres before I bought the car!

You might also want to play around with residential parking, I found that to be fairly cheap compared to "in a garage"... mines an underground residential car park type garage thing with automatic gates so I figure I can play around as there isn't really an option for that.

Does putting the roof up/down with the engine idling use any battery? I often put the top down just to reverse in to my tiny parking space. (Actually it's not that small but the guy next to me has to avoid the automatic gate opener so parks at a weird angle). Also, do you think a tracker might make a noticeable difference to battery drain when it can't find a GPS signal, I park underground - I'm thinking along the lines of smart phones and how the GPS can drain battery life.

One of the stockists listed on the Vredestein website just said there's NONE in the country! Actually they sounded pretty friendly and knowledgeable, as soon as I said the front tyre size they said there was none in the country without even referencing. If anyone's looking for a good tyre place in SW London, Munster tyres in Fulham could be worth a shot, as much as you can judge from a 2 minute phone call anyway. To be fair the guy did suggest some winter Vredesteins but you can't knock him for that, it being October and it wasn't a hard sell. Don't know what their prices are like either. Looks like new stones assuming my fronts aren't too worn.

Hi All, I've got 2mm on 1 of my rear tyres, that's why I haven't been driving much recently and hence the flat battery yesterday! So, I urgently want to replace all 4 with Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas... However, EVERYWHERE seems to be out of stock of 225/45R18s! Camskill has no stock, tyremen have no stock, everywhere I phone has no stock - 1 place tried to order them and said they can't get them until January!!! WTF?!? Any ideas?? Not too keen on buying Vredestein rears and leaving the stones (REO50A's) on the front... perhaps I should check the tread on the fronts and just replace the rears with more stones?? Haydn.

My car had a couple of small dents in the side before I bought it, not sure if they were caused by stones or what (looked like it had been shot with a BB gun!), the garage got the dents removed by a mobile dent guy they use before I agreed to the purchase, the work was immaculate - you couldn't tell they were ever there! The garage I bought my Zed from was Bushey Heath Hyundai and I bought the car in June/July if you want to phone them and ask who they used.

I may get 1 for emergencies - I'd prefer to not let my battery run down every 3 weeks in the first place though. I can't say anything about the quality, Chipsaway is a franchise so it would vary between regions, if I decide to use them I'll create a post of the local guy to me and a review. BTW, the guy who gave the quote today said he wouldn't sort my stone chip, he'd either use a paint pen which apparently I could do just as well or it would be a full bonnet respray. I remembered the order correctly - although I'm sure I used to use the dead instead of another earthing point which apparently is dangerous - this can cause an explosion as hydrogen is released from the battery when charging and you may get sparks... apparently it's a 1 in a million chance of happening but nasty when it does (acid everywhere!).

I just read a "howto jump your car" thing (I haven't had to jump a car in a while so wanted a memory jog), it advised never connecting all 4 terminals of the 2 batteries as this may cause an explosion?!? Has anyone ever actually heard of this happening??
