BM, I kept meaning to ask if you lived over here as well.We moved over here (Breidscheid) Dec 2014.Only regret is not doing it a lot sooner. Many thanks for the headlight advice btw.

The German people in general are very friendly and open , you get "Gutten tag"from total strangers, all thos kind of things.

Enjoy.

grahamc, you got a link?

tecb, thanks and you are welcome.

I have lived in Germany before as a kid, 1980-1995, so know the lingo and customs for the most of it.

Just gotta figure out if local Behörde will issue Parking Permit for non german registered cars until I get mine registered in Germany

Well since I tried this with a move to Switzerland and HMRC then decided to tax my Swiss earnings which are considerably lower in tax and most deduction do not match the Swiss ones so cannot be taken into account.

I suggest you speak to a tax specialist! If you still have some sort of "base" in the UK they will chase you for taxes.

I am a tax specialist, do you want some advice? If youre living overseas and working overseas then HMRC arent interested in you at all, if you are living in UK and working in a country where HMRC have a dual tax agreement you just have to prove that youve paid elsewhere and they will leave you alone again.

Switzerland is a bit different as its non EU and has some very strange rules, but if BM is living permanently in Germany then he has to pay into the German system, its actually one of the only EU countries along with Austria where by rights you should start paying local taxes immediately, the 183 day rule doesnt apply.

I have enough tax consultants, thank you ;)

I meant a tax specialist that understands his full position, IE assets, family, etc.

Nothing has been mentioned about personal interests such as houses, return for family visits, etc. The 183 day rule is a guide and the HMRC can choose to ignore it if they believe there is substantial reason - IE family interest and assets are still maintained here. It has to be a very clear cut-off.

You must tell HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) if either:

  • you’re leaving the UK to live abroad permanently
  • you’re going to work abroad full-time for at least one full tax year

The tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April the next year.

  • 2 months later...

Found the german 350Z owners club, seem to be helpful and friendly.

Just posted a "Hello" thread on there and also began asking questions as to how I can get my car registered in Germany.

I't not as straight forward as I first expected, but a solution will be found.

Other than that, I am settleling in quite well.

Felt a bit down the other weekend when I saw pics of Japfest and Supercar Siege on social media :(

Yeah, the german owners club had a giveaway, and the lucky winner got tickets for the whole event with VIP passes, supplied by Nissan Germany

Yeah, there were a couple of comps.... I was driving one of the comp winners around the track :) But they also got weekend tickets to Nissan hospitality (all food and drink, etc), same tickets the GTROC got :D
