Engine rebuild

Ok so it looks like I need a rebuild as my rings appear to be well on their way out! Anyone know what the rough cost to rebuild a de would be and can recommend somewhere in scotland? I might just trade her in but that's like trading my heart in 😭

Any feedback would be great cheers

Give these guys a call: http://www.apiengines.com/petrol.php They don't list the Z but probably do it, They are reliable trustworthy and cheap, not a thing you can say about many in their business. In the long run it'd probably cheaper for you to get a recon with the 6 month warranty than having your old one rebuilt. API do it on an exchange basis and their engines are usually brought over from Japan taken from low mileage well looked after cars that have been scrapped due to their crazy MOT/tax laws over there (same reason grey imports are so cheap).

DO NOT USE API ~ Only imo but they cost me thousands of pounds on my JDM Impreza after I had them rebuild my engine. I know it's different because you would be buying a second hand engine from them but honestly I wouldn't risk it.

Not just me that's had problems with them either. My best mate had them rebuild his JDM Impreza's engine as well and they f**ked that up too. Please do not use them!!

You'd be in much better, safer and more trustworthy hands using Clark Motorsport imo. Just give Ewan a call or PM and I'm sure he'll sort you out.

EDIT: Engines built by API Impreza do not last ~ they will blow up.

That really surprises me as I had no problems. Maybe that's the difference between buying a recon and having an old one reconned. If Zedman has one than yea always go with him. :)

How deep are your pockets...... as the conversion cost is likely to exceed the present value of your car.......by some way as its not just the engine you would have to change.

Do a search on here the question has been asked before ;)

Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah it's a revup de. Could I put an hr in it?

HR would fit but I'd imagine it wouldn't just be an easy swap obviously as wiring looms will be different and other bits too (gearbox? etc).

I'd maybe ask Abbey Motorsport or similar to see what they can do for you on your budget or just to see if the ideas you have like about the HR engine swap are even feasible. ;)

Thanx Alex! What about a non revup?

Never been done in the UK to my knowledge, however the gearbox is similar so the only issues that you may have are ECU and looms etc.

Best to swop like for like, just to keep it simple and cost effective.

Alex. :)

Sorry mate. I didn't see it on the website and didn't click the link 😴. That's a good price for that!

Haha it's appreciated Alex! I've the chance of a non revup for £1200 that can be heard running as it's still in the car. It's done 66k miles.

Thanks

Ignore me then as that's a great price especially if you can see/test it before you buy. :D;)

Yeah sorry ☺ï¸

But as Alex says it may require the loom, ecu and box. So at £2000 for a 33k mile revup that probably makes more sense! GMballistic!

Thanks

As I previously said, best to swop out like for like.

ie: Rev-up for Rev-up

Alex. :)
