1978 Opel Manta

Good taste that man.........

Drove my brothers early 1.9 Manta ( the stingray / batmobile one )

Then he moved up ? to the 1976 Manta 1.6 SR. Which I blew up, and had to buy. Fixed it and had that for a few months before getting a 2.0 Berlinetta, and then onto a 2.0 GTE.

You have now put me on a mission to find some pics of the Mantas....

First write off, a 205 Diesel it was a Company pool car, which was 3 weeks old. :surrender:

First car was a Ford Escort MkII RS1800 (think it was about 7 years old) in a lurid green colour. It was originally my older brothers and it sat at the end of the driveway for almost a year. I was 19 and told if I could fix it and get it MOT'd I could have it.

6 months of evenings and weekends and I stripped out and re-built everything (the wonders of the scouts mechanics badge!!!). It needed a bit of welding at the garage to get through the MOT, but I was overjoyed. :teeth: Insurance was a killer though. :headhurt:

My nephew passed his test 3 weeks ago and wants his Dad to get him a car (max 2 years old) for doing so well. My answer would be a size 9 to his lazy butt.

First car I drove after passing my test was my dads Ford Escort MK2 GT. Then the 1st car I owned was a black fiat Panda 999cc powerhouse - didn't really go wrong (didn't have much to go wrong) but I was the only one of us with license/car so no 1 complained too much :D

Isetta Bubble Car, single cylinder BMW engine, reversed the front wheels to get a wider track and a smiley face on the door, I was only 15 when I had it, and the roads used to be pretty quiet then and a bit of underage driving could be got away with, only paid a fiver for it, wish I still had it now!

1959 Chevrolet Impala. I was 15-1/2 when I bought this. I have been a petrol head since birth. I cut my head wide open at 5 years of age trying to park my trike like a motorcycle hence my avitar.

I started saving for a car and then started my search when I was 14. I knew it would take a while. One year later my dad and I stumbled across this beauty at a car show in Chicago in 1986. I stopped dead in my tracks. I drove it 7 years and sold it for double what I paid. Used that money for a down payment on my first home. I loved that car.

Thank you. At that time in my life I was crazy about 1950's American iron. Now I'm crazy about Japanese sheetmetal

It was a blast to own. Americans were crazy about anything 1950's back then. I wanted a 1957 Chevrolet but they were already going for $20,000+ back then :scare:

My car may of had more glitz but that little Honda would of run circles around my Impala. That thing weighed about as much as the Titanic and cornered like it too!

My parents bought a brand new 1300 cc Honda Civic back in 1980. That car was so stinkin much fun to drive. Great little cars that hooked our entire family on Japanes cars.

Can't believe I missed this thread before.

This was my first - a 1954 Morris Minor, with split windscreen and original pop-up "trafficators". I bought it in 1969 for £10; the original 803cc side-valve engine had seized so I towed it home, picked up a more recent Morris Traveller with a good 998cc engine but rotten bodywork, swapped the engine into the saloon and was on the road for £25 plus a couple of days hard work.
