I have had my car for one month and found it needs a new clutch as it slips under full power.I went to my local clutch clinic who said they have to use the Nissan clutch kit which costs them £560 and with labour on top brings the cost to over £1000.

You might not actually need one straight away, but generally if your paying for the labour to get to the clutch it makes sense to change the flywheel Aswell

Definitely agree. :)

Also a good time to fit aftermarket exhaust manifolds if your modifying things like that ~ much easier to fit them with the gearbox off from what I've read. ;)

Clutch went on my Zed, it was slipping, when we pulled it all out the flywheel was ruined. I had ordered a flywheel as advised also so it went straight in - problem is if you pay for the labour open it up and find a knackared flywheel you pay for it all again to put sorted for the flywheel once that has arrived.

I still do not understand why a slipping clutch should result in needing a new flywheel as the car is only done 40,000 miles and is just 6 years old. I have been told by trading standards I would be in my rights to demand my money back or get the dealer to fix the clutch so I guess he would not want to throw in a flywheel as well. I love the car to bits and apart from the clutch everything else is perfect and look's great. Look-see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4Biummqgms&feature=youtu.be

The 350Z runs a dual mass flywheel and nine times out of ten they are worn as well. Just replacing the clutch as others have said is false economy as you will more than likely still get issues and then the box will have to come out again.

Thank's for the info I will see if the dealer will let me have a new flywheel as well. I guess if the flywheel is not covered by the dealer I might have to pay for that separate so any idea what a flywheel and labour charges on that would be.

There's an ancient parable which might be handy here.

A man decides to walk to the shops to get some fresh bread. It's a three hour walk each way to the shops, so it's a big effort for him, but he has a powerful lust for toast and a brew.

When he gets to the shops he picks up his bread and as he's walking past the fridge he thinks to himself, "How much milk did I have back at the house?". In the end he decides he can't be certain he's out of milk, so he doesn't buy any.

He walks the three hours home, slices up his loaf, whips out the butter and the marmalade and puts the kettle on. He's just about to tuck in to his delicious toast on his sunny veranda and the kettle boils. The man goes to the fridge and finds he was correct at the shop, he has got milk in there, but it's gone bad and smells like toe cheese.

Thoroughly dejected, after his 6 hour exerts, the man says to himself, "I wish I'd bought that bloody flywheel when I was getting my clutch done."

We supply either a replacement DMF for £345 or a Competition Clutch lightweight SMF for the same price. Should not add to the labour charge as its just a few bolts and they will be in there anyway.

You would think it wouldn't cost extra Ewen. But I recently (Saturday), had a quote to replace the clutch, which they supplied, I then asked the question "Would there be any additional cost to fit the flywheel at the same time" response was an addition 2.5hrs charge.

Guess they wont be getting my business ......

Would you mind telling me how much the quote was to replace the clutch.as I have been quoted just over £1000.

From photos it looks as though you have the HR engine, worth noting this is different to the earlier setup, we can supply the SMF for this or the Nissan OEM fly, we don't charge any extra for fitting the flywheel as it's only take an additional 15 minutes to undo, clean etc... :)

Top trader

Thumbs up

Keith,

As you are based in Gloucester, it may be easier for you to use Horsham Developments in Newbury for the work. Jez at Horsham replaced my flywheel and clutch a few years ago now and did a great job. They are my nearest Nissan specialist & I travelled from South Wales to get the work done.

CS is also a very highly regarded specialist too so you have a couple of options

I really don't know why you are surprised that a clutch is approx £1000? Its a 1.5 tonne car with a 300ps engine, the clutch is always going to be expensive. People buy these cars because they are cheap, but the running costs are the same (if not more) than what they were when the car was new.

Why are you so surprised?
