Dealer writes off 370z

I put my Jag into Valet mode with a key code when I took it for service, they were fine about it. I am sure they could bypass it with software if they really wanted to but they had E-types and old XJRs knocking about and all the blokes were about 60 odd so I think I was safe

Most people see that and are lulled into a false security. They will be the head or master mechanic. The guy changing your oil was probably 18. I'm sure its fine but something to bear in mind.

I very much doubt it, imagine EVERY stereotype about an old Jag garage and this place would be it....

I doubt an 18 year old would have shrink wrapped my steering wheel...

I find this topic very disconcerting as, although a few months off yet, my 370 will be due it`s first service at 12 month old by end of February. I do like to give it some as and when but don`t regularly give it a good thrashing around the streets of Manchester and would be horrified at the thought of anyone else doing so. I plan on taking it to Westway Nissan Manchester as I bought it from there and it is the nearest so anyone else used them/have any comments about them ?

Just strap this to the passenger headrest and tell them you've just had the latest miniature onboard camera fitted it's got online 24hr remote monitoring :p

Of course they would. They are there to work. Porsches are owned by old skoolers. All simple stuff is done by the 18 year olds.

Your probably right but I trust NO garage.

Couple of things here.

Firstly.. "Police have decided that there is insufficient evidence to prosecute " - i had the same response from the police a few years back when I was stationary and had a boy racer pile into the back of me at about 60mph. My car was scrunched up like a screwed up bit of paper, I was thrown back with such force that the drivers seat actually ripped out of the floor pan. The boy racers car was totally smashed up. All in a 30mph zone. And yet the police said "not enough evidence". Quite what evidence they need i really dont know, surely the scene of the accident speaks for itself.

Secondly, when I took my 350z to my local Nissan dealer for some warranty work, I was totally amazed that the blond 18 year old receptionist took my keys and then drove off in my car to the workshop. Sure, she was pretty fit, but I really would not have expected her to be experienced in driving such a high performance car and would have expected they would have only allowed a more experienced driver or mechanic drive my car in case she lost control because the car was more powerful than her 1.0 Nissan Micra daily driver. So, if this is common practise for nissan to allow anyone to drive customers cars, its hardly supprising an accident will happen!

A tad harsh ... did you know she only had a 1.0 Nissan Micra? Even if that is her daily she might have something else at home she doesn't use for work, most people see my other half in his Pug 307 and not know about the Supra TT and Gixer at home as well as my zed. Unless you personally know her, for all you know she could be a racer at weekends, just because she is young and female doesn't mean she can't handle a zed, they have a big engine but I wouldn't say they're particularly spritely unless you're really pushing it.

You may well be right, but i dont expect theres many 18 year old receptionists who have a supra TT, a Gixer & a Zed at home as not only would most 18 year olds not be able to afford to buy said cars, but the insurance would be somewhat crippling.

My concern was that I dont let anyone touch my car, even my wife. So after spending a good 20 minutes trying to get the receptionist to understand what I wanted doing to my car and her not seeming to understand what day of the week it was, how to use their computer system, or what a fan belt was, to have her then climb in my car and drive off didnt really inspire me with confidence that she wouldnt scrap the side of the car or reverse it into something.

Im sure there are exceptions to the rules and i didnt meant to afford you if you are young and female. :)

I had a Z at 20 and that was 4 years ago, I know a guy who had a 2008 Z as his first car brand new when he passed. He literally used his driving license pass certificate for the test drive - which could only be completed after he'd put down a fairly large (apparently returnable deposit).

When I worked at Mercedes-Benz World, there was a lady who was one of the drivers for the experiences. She did passenger rides a fair amount and people would always give a sarcastic look when she came round the corner.

She looks like this:

Tiff_Chittenden_Promotional_16.JPG

and this is her on some of her "work days"

She's a prime example of don't judge a book, softly spoken, very pretty and could beat most guys on any circuit.

Is she single?

Nope, been 5 months now. All good

is that a record ?

Nope. First was 5 months when I was 21. Second was 11 months when I was 28. I'm now 31, nearly 32 and I really hope this one lasts longer otherwise looking at my past historyI'll be single for about 10 years!

Haha that's a little harsh Dan. The poor guy had no fight in him so he had given up and bent over for a car of the same year and similar mileage as a replacement. I think the weight the story carried through the forums and people ripping Doncaster Evans Halshaw forced them back to make a more reasonable offer and compensate him accordingly. Let's see it may be legal so guess we shouldn't pass any judgement yet

He had no legal comeback other than what was offered. That sucks, and I feel for him, but that's why he went public and told everyone the truth. If (and I know it's an if) he's now getting better treatment from EH but only if he deletes what was said on the internet then that's cowardly and selfish, and blights the community. Hushing something up is disgraceful after the truth has already been released.

Makes you wonder what really goes on a Stealerships. I've dropped mine off today at Cambridge Nissan. They keep trying to update my software and I keep telling them not to. I like what the RS Tuning laptop did, and I'll thank you to keep it that way.

I'd be peeved if I found my car was being ragged around.

We just did an Inspection for a customer of ours buying a used car from a local Nissan Dealership. They knew we were doing a pre-purchase inspection and released the car to us with no problems. We put it on the lift and instantly spotted the biggest oil leak along with front brakes worn and requiring replacement and synchro gearbox issues! Emailed them the job sheet and they just cleaned the oil leak and said everything else was fine. They hadn't even inspected there own car before a sale! Dealership have that many used cars going through them quality suffers!

Scary.

I will say though that people shouldn't assume that dealers = bad and indies = good: You can get some great main dealers (I used to use Glyn Hopkin in Stortford and they were excellent) as well as some pretty poor 'specialists' (I had a very poor experience at Everything MX5 in Romford).

As always, evaluate as best you can but don't keep your tin foil hat or your rose-tinted spectacles on permanently ;)

Good luck then. I wouldn't want to take my car back to Nissan Cambridge in a hurry.

Romford Nissan told me that the 370Z only came in a auto box.

These are my choice (if Glyn Hopkin) but after a few issues that they can't answer and now seeing this - they obviously don't know the 370's as they should. May be looking elsewhere now

May be looking elsewhere!!? Please walk away, they don't deserve your business. Kaizer Motors, Abbey Motorsport, and Motorline Dartford and Tonbridge, I know they are all south of the river but got to be a better experience than this. Anyone else know a good indy in Essex? Isn't there one at Lakeside?
