Zed failed MOT on emissions

Hi all

Was hoping I could get some helpful advice from the experts on this site. My 350 failed the MOT on Friday due to emissions, CO2 reading was 0.56 apparently it should be no more than 0.30. I took the car for an hour hard drive this lunchtime and took it back to motest in Aldershot (had been advised to get cats up to temp) still failed at 0.50!!

Anyone know what could be causing this?

I'm running berks free flow cats and a cobra stainless exhaust and a remap. It passed last year with the cobra exhaust and standard cats so only change is the berks and remap.

Thanks Gary

We had a focus RS with this problem, customer held it at 2-3k until they were warmer and did the test immediately, getting the cats to a higher temperature prior to testing they are more efficient.

When my berks are warm you can feel the heat from them on a cold day

Hi Mark

I can scan it in the morning as I'm at the girlfriends at the moment.

On Friday the car was cold which is why I was advised to get the exhaust hot, so took it for a good hour run and it went straight in on ramp. Passed all other tests on emissions was just the CO2 which was up at 0.56. Last year on my reading was 0.03.

Also I had the 2 rear lambda sensors replaced back in November when engine management light came on.

The MOT man reckoned the cats were shot as they smelt funny but I only had them fitted in August so doubt if they are, what do you think?

Atkin666 I did take it for a good blast for an hour and took it straight to test station and they shoved the pipe straight up her pipe still only got a 0.5 reading.

Hopefully getting loaned a standard set tomorrow so it passes the test as I didn't keep mine as the berks were supposed to be MOT friendly. Thanks for the advice I shall update tomorrow if it passes or not, fingers crossed

How strange.

I don't have cats and mine flew through the emmisions!

I am with Alex, go find another one!

Isnt a decat a straight fail, emissions or not? Unless you get into manufacturer fitted stuff, but exery Zed made would have left Nissan with a pair of cats, no?

Mine recently failed on C02 with berks and a Nismo exhaust, tried again after some enthusiastic driving, with the tester knowing that iit was going to be close and it passed.

Some testes dont exactly follow the rules. And some people therefore get smug about it ;)

The comments from the bus' first MOT were "Emissions too low to register" :#1::lol:

Yes it is a fail but we wanted to test it b4 the cats were put back on.

Emmision test was better with them off!

Well spent all day with Jez at HDev replacing my cats with standard and a standard Y piece and it still failed the emissions, no change in reading what so ever!! I reckon the testers O2 sensor may be buggered but he reckoned it could be due to the car not recognising the new Lambda settings when they were fitted so back up to HDev for Jez to test but all seemed fine on his computer. Am totally at a loss now as something weird is going on. It is booked in at Fleet Auto way which is a Nissan approved independent on Thursday to see what they can come up with unless someone can give me directions to a very relaxed MOT tester ;-)

Let me know if you need a friendly MOT tester. I know of 2, one in ash and one in Guildford.

Did Jez reload a stock MAP into the ECU prior to trying the car again on the MOT emission test?

I very much doubt the MOT emission test machine will be out of calibration.

The rear lambda's don't need syncing to the ECU, just bolt them in and they are all okay normally.
