You need to read the codes really, but a low idle and occasional pop is quite normal if the air con is off! One of the reasons a lot of people run it all year round, along with the misting up in winter I personally have only ever used electrical cleaner on MAFs and I avoid touching the wires with anything as they are very sensitive

At a guess I would say that it's the base plate for some type of modern snow chains, if you google spike spider snow chains you'll see they click onto a plate just like this. Although some of the guesses did make me laugh,

Nice purchase! I personally thick this colour suits dark bronze, silver or Matt black, but just get decent size and fitment

I'm pretty sure if the gas is low then the relays don't click or anything, they may have regassed it but the two connections under the air box are a bit of a pain and mine had popped apart as there a strange push fit connection If the fans are working on engine temp then I think it could possibly be this!

Sounds silly but have you checked there plugged in? As if the garage removed the front panel to replace the engine then they have had to un plug them! Also if they did remove the front panel then they would have had to let the gas out the air con, which I'm pretty sure also stops the fans coming on untill re gassed
