Dblock Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Ricey I dont think it is the gylcol problem as it would be loud about 2k rpm. You said the ATF had been changed and they would have noticed it then. With auto's if your putting on no power (nearly) they sometimes jerk a little. I agree some injector cleaner or a tank of V power should maybe sort you out. OBD-2 wont tell you much and unless you got a reader I wouldnt bother TBH. Really for anything like that you need STAR. So was I right about Merc's or was I right The engine is a corker isnt it. Its like no matter what rpm it snaps your neck. The CD changer is cool isnt it. Needs a remap now for an extra 20ish bhp and a slight raise in mpg Quote
Zugara Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 My experience with MB.... +1 On SMD comment. Well you did buy a birds car! OK Point taken..... Quote

Squee Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Nice V8! My Dad's got a Merc and if he needs anything specialist doing do it he uses MB Motors in Deeside - the guy who runs it seems like a decent bloke. Hopefully you won't need to pay them a visit anytime soon Are you going to keep the plate or swap to your own? S. Quote
Ricey Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 That's exactly who I'm calling tomorrow actually squee. Hoping it's nothing major buy that odd rev jolting needs looking at regardless of how subtle it is. 15mpg so far Quote
planetsurfer2 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 15mpg so far Your driving something the volume and mass of the Death Star and this was unexpected Quote
glrnet Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 It certainly is just as a matter of interest, how much would this beast have been at new? Cheers stu....apart from this minor(ish) concern its an unbelievable amount of car for the cash. Quote
Dblock Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 1760 kg thats not that much heavier than the 350 considering. Quote
Vik54 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Vroom vroom indeed Paul. Das Uber barge Have you got a nice fur coat and purple suit to go with it? Njoy Quote
Ricey Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 15mpg so far Your driving something the volume and mass of the Death Star and this was unexpected 15mpg was a little shock if I'm honest but no you are right I can't expect mid 20's from that kind of engine and an auto box with more gadgets than bond. I do feel a little like a baby seal must somewhere die every time I start the engine though It certainly is just as a matter of interest, how much would this beast have been at new? Base price just over 42k then you have to add options on - leather, dynamic seats, sat nav, double panoramic roof, memory seats, wood steering wheel, airmatic suspension, AMG alloys, 6 cd auto changer, parktronic. I hesitate to even try and guess with all that but each of those options was crazy expensive - got to be cracking on for well over 50k I guess. Quote
Neilp Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Love it mate! The v8 engine is very torquey!! My bro had the amg clk and it would spin the wheels at very fast speeds if planted. His gearbox went though got repaired under warranty though Quote
Leeroy Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Humungous amounts of win! Does that badboy have a mechanical LSD? Quote
ph 7 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I must say that looks great and is barely used on 74K. Nice discount on the list price as well that will help towards the spark replacement. Admire the balls out approach on distance buying. Really hope it works out for you. What do you expect a cruising 70mph MPG to be? How are the massaging seats? Always wondered if it is a pleasant way to drive or a distraction Quote
rabbitstew Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 - massaging seats So, the most important question we all need to know, is are the massaging seats any good? Happy ending? Quote
glrnet Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 We really don't need to know Ricey - massaging seats So, the most important question we all need to know, is are the massaging seats any good? Happy ending? Quote

Admire the balls out approach on distance buying. Really hope it works out for you. What do you expect a cruising 70mph MPG to be? How are the massaging seats? Always wondered if it is a pleasant way to drive or a distraction MB Mech thinks it just needs another ATF change and some anti judder solution putting in but he's sticking it on a diagnostic as well. Distance buying is either epic win or EPIC fail. The 350 was bought blind but from a really spot on indie in Scotland who did a full appriasal of the car for me so I knew every last detail of the condition. I was honestly expecting 30mpg from crusing at 70mph but its averaging on a 7 mile motorway run to work about 19 mpg Massaging seats are cool but perhaps not as crazy as you'd think - they basically just pulse at the base of your bad (good if you get lumbar pain on a long journey). The dynamic seats are AMAZING - bolsters pull in to grip you when you turn a corner. Not sure about the LSD Leeroy and Stew.......lets see the bill from this garage before I determine a happy ending or not! Quote
Dblock Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 No LSD but traction controll actually works in these cars. I don't think the car is getting hot enough tbh. Even then 30 would be way off the mark 25 would be the best Quote
rtbiscuit Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 my drive is about 5 miles each way on dual carriageway and i only get 18 needs a long drive to see better MPG Quote
Ricey Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Jesus titty ****ing Christ.......overfilled ATF by 3 litres and it's jet black. Sneaky, dirty, evil, southern bastards! Quote
Dblock Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Jesus titty ****ing Christ.......overfilled ATF by 3 litres and it's jet black. Sneaky, dirty, evil, southern bastards! HMM thats not good. ATF is usually a cherry/reddish colour. You get a full change done? Quote
Ricey Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Booked in for Thursday. They reckon they've done no more than topped it up. Even with glycol it would be orange not black. It's simply not been changed. No big deal as its basically just ready for a change but the lying gits. They said that they add an anti judder solution in there as well which coats the torque converter to make it smoother. Apparently they've had quite a few with the same problem and this has been a success. Quote
