Why is the 350Z so good on insurance?!

alot of insurance prices comes down to area and job title. yes accidents and no claims points etc all play a part.

when i swapped from the MR2 to the zed it dropped by £200 but thats because the mr2 was mid engined and rear wheel and prone to crashing  the s2000 was more expensive than the zed by £60 again it has a reputation for crashing. but i have been very suprised at the XKR cheapest yet.

i pay £380 for 380 bhp its like a £ per BHP

Thats a good price.

Do you live in a Posh Area?

:p

Indeed I do old chap. Windsor can have it's fair share of the fakey bakey gangs though!

I just moved from opposite the Runnymead Hotel. I lived on a boat there and the insurance is actually lower than where l am now. Because the land I live on had a question regarding land subsidence. It made buildings and contents insurance higher. Why I don't know but this seemed to have knocked on to car insurance and at the time my car and contents were with the same company. I just can't get my head round it all but at least I told them to poke it and moved on. I prefer the small brokers as at least when you ring there is a chance you will speak to someone you know:)

Well i bought my 350z last year and had no end of trouble trying to get it insured for a reasonable price.

Thats with 20 years ncb and im 40. I ended up paying £900 fully comp.

Year 2, I managed to haggle this down to about £700.

Then I sold the car a few weeks back.

Out of interest ive just gone onto confused.com and did a quote as if i had just bought my old car again and I am amazed that ive just been quoted £330 fully comp. WTF is that all about? In December they were charging £700, and now its down to £330?!!! Have 350z`s suddenly dropped in risk or something? All my details are the same as back in December - i just clicked "renew quote". As ive got 20 years ncb its nothing to do with that, nor is it anything to do with being more experienced in that car as i put that ive not bought it yet.

Talk about good timing - a soon as I flog the car the insurance halves?! Whats next? The government announcing that nissan 350`s pay £10 a year tax or something instead of the £460 i was paying?!

Just out of interest, I noticed that most of the companies on Confused the access can be up to £3k

Where on go compare it starts from £300!

Another thing to note down is that on most occasions your insurance company will offer you a renewal quote that is higher than a quote from you as a new customer but with the same details and NCB.

My friend was sent a renewal quote on his Type R for £560 by Admiral. He went to their site and gave the same details along with his NCB and he got a quote for £420! He then called up and asked why the large difference and they just said they would do it for the online quote price.

This goes to prove the culture of greed.

This seems to be par for the course and they hope you will accept because to be honest the profit margins are not that great.

My renewal is not due until January and as l cant afford to pay in one lump this time I have to find someone who will do it monthly.

Trouble is I need a specialist insurer because of all the mods.

The bottom line is always about money!

:headhurt:

Thats standard practise and insurance companies have been doing that for as long as I can remember. They know a certain percentage of customers will just renew without shopping about and thats what they are banking on.

Well this will be an interesting thread.

It might be a good idea if we put up the name of our insurance company/how much they charge/what the renewal is.

Mind you all that goes out of the window when it comes to dealing with you after a incident.

I am willing to bet that the smaller specialists outshine the Esures of this world!!

From all the insurance threads i've read on here, Admiral seems to keep popping up as being the cheapest, but then you're only allowed 5 or 6 mods or something and they won't take FI.

Ah, admiral *were* the cheapest, but now i notice when i get quotes they are no longer near the best prices.

What you find is that insurance companies seem to take it in turns to offer the cheapest prices to suck customers in. Then they jack them up for subsequent years hoping people will not bother changing provider. If you keep an eye on the comparison sites you can see this happening. Its happened for as long as I can remember.

Strangely enough the cheapest one which keeps coming up for me now is Privilege or ASDA money.

Wahoo, just renewed mine with Bell. £419 for 12months. 25years old. They took out a renewal automatically at £600. So I checked on Confused.com. Noticed that I could get it for £510 or so with Admiral so phoned up Bell and tried to cancel for a refund. Instead they said they will try to match it, then got it down to £419! Mental. Refund on the way. Defo worth the phone call and a good old moan.

Hmm I've called a couple of the companies that are on board here.

£740

£800ish from another

32

11 years no claims

declared mods (exhaust/remap/b.pads)

6000ish miles per year

Guildford/Farnham area

Previous experience of similar powered cars

I was honestly hoping for it to be closer to £500, as that seems a bit steep to me comparing it to a lot of you guys. (I know the obvious things which will make a difference though)

It is actually stupid. Crazy.

i'm 22, with 4 years experience and 3 years NCB at the moment, 4 ncb in April. My EP3 with admiral cost 888 upfront for the year fully comp, 8000 miles a year. 2 named drivers, me policy holder.

Just got a quote for a Z, at £781 on the website. Now when the multi-car discount applies, what will it be?.....Really is crazy cheap.

Last time I got the cheap EP3 quote online, rung, they said 1300, i argued the online case, and got it for the 888. I think this is a good strategy. Been with admiral since I began and are good value. Don't know how they are if in trouble though.

Be careful with the multi car. Admiral kept on at me for months to try and get me to go with their multicar. In the end after many quotes and me repeatedly telling them it would be cheaper for me to insure both of my cars with seperate companies they managed to offer me insurance on my 2nd car for 20quid less. However, the clincher was that if come renewal time, I happened to price check and find another cheaper quote, they would immediately charge me a get out fee for coming out of a multi car policy and jack the price of my main car up. So, it means they have you over a barrel. So, i decided to save money & insure both cars seperately.

I've been with admiral for 4 years now and on there multi car for the past 2 years. They've always been cheapest so far and decent when adding mods and changing cars mid policy. My partner even got a full years NCD for 8 months as her renewal wasnt at the same time. Until someone else can quote cheaper i'll be sticking with them.

ps. 350Z use to cost me £1000 (age 26), Z4 2.0i before that was £1200 (age 25), Elise 111S now costs me £650 (age 28).
