ASemper Posted June 23, 2017 Share Posted June 23, 2017 For the first time since owning my 350z I actually got to witness it being driven by someone else (my house mate), as I needed to get both my work van and Z home from work. It was a weird feeling but actually hearing and seeing it from an outside perspective made me love it even more. My friend couldnt resist doing a couple of fly byes and revs in traffic on the drive home and my god the Z sounds so good . Its hard to realise the difference between the cabin noise and the exterior noise Anyone else had a similar experience? He was happy as Larry enjoying my freshly built V8! I dropped my 997 turbo off to have a service earlier in the year and it was a bit unnerving seeing the 18 (!!!!) year old mechanic driving off in it afterwards for a road test. I remember years back me & a mate were out on our motorbikes having a blast and he asked if he could try my R1 out. So I agreed. I was on his ZX6R happily riding along with my mate behind me on my R1. Suddenly there was an incredible roar which I can only compare to a fighter jet as he flew past me in 3rd gear with my full titanium race akropovic exhaust system screaming at full chat. I actually lept about 3 foot in the air and promptly shat myself before I realised what it was and then my immediate thought was "holy f**k my bike sounds incredible" as id never heard it before without actually riding it. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jetbike poopants scenario Don't think I would be overly happy about my Z being driven by a young mechanic let alone a 997 turbo! I would like to think Porsche mechanics may be slightly more professional than a young Nissan mechanic but still... Haha you'll never forget that moment! The first time he had been rear ended, the second time he was ragging it (no surprise of course) and the third time he was racing a 5 series on narrow country roads. I was still feeling drunk in the morning after a heavy night at the pub and woke up at a friends house, so obviously I didn't drive, and I needed to be somewhere. Parents came to pick me up, dad drove my car home and I sat in the Fiesta with my mum. LOL! Was weird following my own car home, I didn't take my eyes off of it for a second. I let my girlfriend drive it onto her long driveway at her uni accommodation, that was funny. It felt really, really weird being in the passenger seat. To my surprise, she went out, got in my zed and drove it around to the workshop. I usually swap when I can get a go in theirs, on the provision that if they break mine I'm taking their car home! On the road, I prefer to chuck my keys to someone and let them go off and drive it on their own rather than have me with them. I'd rather they experienced it how they want, rather than be worrying about fluffing a gear change or wondering if I'm picking holes in their driving. This, this, this ^^^ I was 18 and for my birthday treat from my parents they paid for a full day session learning how to Rally! At the time I was a proud owner of a Escort MkII which had been modified by the previous owner, so was a bit 'boy racer'ish'. Turned up to the Rally day and they were using a Escort MkII totally stripped and caged with a 2.0 pinto! For me this was a relief as only being fairly young to the motor world I would feel at home with the Escort. The day was great... thought I was doing amazing up until the lunch time "let the instructor show you how it goes" laps! Holy mother of god! How the hell did he manage to brake so hard on gravel!! How is he cornering so hard, the control, speed and noise! I felt like a school boy taking my first lesson in the passenger seat! He was braking THAT hard, pretty much all my weight was on the foot plate in the passenger footwell. This for me was defying all levels of driving and physics! Exec Posted June 23, 2017 Share Posted June 23, 2017 I got driven round three sisters in Wigan in an atom at full pelt, I quite enjoyed that. You could feel traction to the rear wondering whether to step out but obviously the driver didn't let it, keeping it on the limit. My girlfriend has driven my car, a few times. I get nervous. MG Mark Posted June 23, 2017 Share Posted June 23, 2017 The "out of car" experience is a great way to get a different perspective on how your car looks, handles and sounds. Been fortunate with my '61 MGA and the 350Z to swapped cars with trusted mates and driven plenty of other classics and moderns. Highlights have ranged from a shabby chic racing Frogeye, an E-Type, a Ferrari 360 and a Ferrari FF. Everytime, the 350Z looks purposeful, handles well and goes well, often to the surprise of mates who gain a new found respect for the "ricer" in their midst!
