But Ive been reading about many people being disapointed with the results. So, should I get it? or spend the £1000 ish it'll cost on toys for the Zed? Al Having just had eye surgery for a detached retina (saved the vision in my left eye) it makes you realize just how important your sight is. Laser treatment to correct short sightedness has improved recently and you may have seen an article recently about a new procedure just introduced here from the US using laser that is a whole lot more accurate. A woman had both eyes done - painless apparently and she had 20/20 vision back the next day compared to having to wear contacts or glasses (can't remember which). I seem to recall that was £575 for each eye. Whether such treatment is for you, only you can decide but having experienced a serious eye problem myself I would advise you get the options checked professionally before walking into the nearest clinic who will be only willing to take your money. As has been said, choose the best you can, it stays with you forever! I have a couple of relatives who say it has transformed their sight. My Dad has had it done, been 7 years, best thing he ever did. Boots got bad press hence why they stopped and a few others too. They intentionally make one eye better to give better than 20:20. I call it sniper vision. Costs €1300 an eye here but as I work for a private hospital I got it done for less then 50%. P15UL T Posted January 31, 2008 Share Posted January 31, 2008 i have terrible sight and have had glasses/contacts since i was 5, my whole family is the same and my brother got laser surgery and says its the best thing hes done, he did have to go back for a top up. i was all for getting it till he explained the whole procedure to me and it turned my stomach ...to be honest the laser part sounds the best i can feel my contacts drying out as i type this Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have thought about it also - but as a few of you have said you only have 1 pair of eyes and there are no guarantees - you may need to go back again in a few years time as your eyes get worse again? I dunno I am still considering it - contact lenses for me the last 15 years and NHS specs before then As far as recognised specialists are concerned I beleive you can go to the eye hospital in Manchester and they will do it for you - as opposed to a high street chain?? Zedrush Posted February 1, 2008 Share Posted February 1, 2008 From what I know when you get your eyes lasered if you are under a certain age, they dont give you 20/20 vision because your eyesight adjusts again when you hit 50 so to save having another treatment they slightly delay perfect vision to take into account of this change. Like I said my dad got his done at Harley Street, he said its the best thing he ever did, so am planning to get mine done end of next year as fed up with contact lenses especially when boxing and a punch in the eye results in losing one of em. My son in law had it done last year in Leeds, I drove him there, took a couple of hours, eyes were a bit sore for a couple of days but he thinks it's the best £1500 he's ever spent.
