Laser Eye Surgery, or more mods???

when I get back from sea in May, I was considering getting laser eye surgery, as Im getting sick of wearing glasses, and contacts annoy the hell out of me.

But Ive been reading about many people being disapointed with the results.

So, should I get it? or spend the £1000 ish it'll cost on toys for the Zed?

my dad has had it done twice down to being a diabetic. No complaints as far as I know.

I think some of the bad press was down to bad prtactice by some operators. Choose a good one

Having just had eye surgery for a detached retina (saved the vision in my left eye) it makes you realize just how important your sight is.

Laser treatment to correct short sightedness has improved recently and you may have seen an article recently about a new procedure just introduced here from the US using laser that is a whole lot more accurate. A woman had both eyes done - painless apparently and she had 20/20 vision back the next day compared to having to wear contacts or glasses (can't remember which). I seem to recall that was £575 for each eye.

Whether such treatment is for you, only you can decide but having experienced a serious eye problem myself I would advise you get the options checked professionally before walking into the nearest clinic who will be only willing to take your money. Might be that toys for you ZED proves the best option ;) ;)

I would pay anything for my eye sight, so I would say do the laser treatment. As has been said, choose the best you can, it stays with you forever! I have a couple of relatives who say it has transformed their sight. Albeit with a few weeks of discomfort to get there, but they are pleased. :)

£1000 for laser treatment ????? :scare::scare::scare::scare:

I wouldnt spend any less than £2000 on such an operation mate. My Dad has had it done, been 7 years, best thing he ever did. Boots got bad press hence why they stopped and a few others too. Seriously get the best that money can by, this is one mod you dont want to mess up

The one thing that detracts from my total Zed enjoyment is my having to wear glasses which I am still getting used to. Annual medicals are now a pain.

If laser surgery can help pay for it. Go for the implants mate, the rest will come later :D

Cost very little in the UK to get it done doesn't it?

I got mine done a few years ago. Best thing ever. They intentionally make one eye better to give better than 20:20. I call it sniper vision.

Costs €1300 an eye here but as I work for a private hospital I got it done for less then 50%.

i have terrible sight and have had glasses/contacts since i was 5, my whole family is the same and my brother got laser surgery and says its the best thing hes done, he did have to go back for a top up.

i was all for getting it till he explained the whole procedure to me and it turned my stomach :yuck: ...to be honest the laser part sounds the best

i can feel my contacts drying out as i type this :headhurt:

think i'll stick with me glasses, if there's a small chance that something could go wrong with the operation, they can't replace your eyes

mod the Z instead :)

I thought the same but one day I arrived in work and just walked in for a test to see if I was eligible. Had the first eye done a few days later and the second a week after.

The laser itself is fine. The smell isn't

My friend had both eyes lasered and he said the same !

I have thought about it also - but as a few of you have said you only have 1 pair of eyes and there are no guarantees - you may need to go back again in a few years time as your eyes get worse again? I dunno I am still considering it - contact lenses for me the last 15 years and NHS specs before then B):headhurt:

As far as recognised specialists are concerned I beleive you can go to the eye hospital in Manchester and they will do it for you - as opposed to a high street chain?? Dunno will wait a bit longer and see(no pun intended) as it goes?

From what I know when you get your eyes lasered if you are under a certain age, they dont give you 20/20 vision because your eyesight adjusts again when you hit 50 so to save having another treatment they slightly delay perfect vision to take into account of this change. Like I said my dad got his done at Harley Street, he said its the best thing he ever did, so am planning to get mine done end of next year as fed up with contact lenses especially when boxing and a punch in the eye results in losing one of em.

you can also have lenses implanted. The advantage of that procedure is that it is reversible. Check out the options I would say, but one can never invest enough in his/her own health imho ;)

At the end of the day mate it's your decision, with any op there are dangers. My son in law had it done last year in Leeds, I drove him there, took a couple of hours, eyes were a bit sore for a couple of days but he thinks it's the best £1500 he's ever spent. Actually he didn't spend it my daughter paid for his birthday present.
