Richesio Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 The other half is looking to buy a new car. Currently considering... Fiat 500 /Ford Ka Volkswagen UP / Seat Mii / Skoda Citigo Toyota Aygo / Peugeot 107 / Citroën C1 Looking to spend 7k max. Must be a small car. Sadly budget doesn't stretch an Abarth. 25k miles. Any stand out performers in that list? Any other recommendations? Quote
Stutopia Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I've been browsing little city cars and the Twingo Renaultsport Cup keeps popping up and the Suzuki Swift VVT Sport. 1 Quote
350zedd Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 My wife and daughters drive a Suzuki Swift. Great little car! 1 Quote
TT350 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I'd go for a recent Yaris. I do like my old one. 1 Quote
M1 6RYF Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I'd say buy a 40k miles run around corsa. <£3k and spend more money on the Zed. I just purchased a 1 litre corsa 2008 with 49k miles, fsh, 10 month mot for £1400. Doesn't have to be amazing if its just a run around. Imagine what you could do with the change? 1 Quote
Bullet Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 My wife and daughters drive a Suzuki Swift. Great little car! +1 My wife had one and it was a great little car 2 Quote
un1eash Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Swift Sport should definitely make the test drive shortlist. Great little cars and so much fun with excellent handling. 1 Quote
HiddenWomble Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I don't know much about city cars, but I do know there is a Suzuki Swift class in the British Rally Cross. So maybe you could turn it into a track pig when it's not doing the shopping run? 1 Quote
Ekona Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Aygo. I would look at anything else. 500 has awful steering and is generally poorly built. Up! feels very cheap for a VAG product. KA, is decent enough car though, a good second choice. Aygo looks good, goes well, built well, handles well. What more could you want? 1 Quote
LRF4N Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Aygo well built? Have to disagree. Had one on rental once it felt really cheap. Wouldn't touch one. Yaris would be a better shout 1 Quote
TT350 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Aygo. What more could you want? It's slightly bigger older brother, the Yaris 1 Quote
Ekona Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Yaris is the second most dull car on the road, behind an Auris. I couldn't ever own something with that little personality. 1 Quote
Stutopia Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart? Sure it's not pretty but it's boosted! 1 Quote
LRF4N Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Agree the yaris has no personality. My wife had one and I couldn't wait to sell it. But the aygo is by far the worst car I've ever driven. What a piece of @*!# Unless your talking about the second model I've never sat in that What's the alfa mito like? Never sat in one but they look decent 1 Quote
Richesio Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Thanks everyone, knew you'd have some good views! hadn't even considered the Suzuki Swift, so will check that out. How old can it be? No more than 4 years - ish. I'd say buy a 40k miles run around corsa. <£3k and spend more money on the Zed. I just purchased a 1 litre corsa 2008 with 49k miles, fsh, 10 month mot for £1400. Doesn't have to be amazing if its just a run around. Imagine what you could do with the change? Don't worry, none of my money is going on this!! I only have eyes for the 350z (and maybe a GTR one day) Quote
sipar69 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 We have one of the newer Aygos; I like it for a little runaround and it's fine on the motorway. I'm not keen on the gear change, but I think that's because I'm more used to the Z. My other half loves it. Quote
LRF4N Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Could you stretch the budget and go for a higher miles a1? Quote
cmck13 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 For the last 40 years my wife has always had a small runabout and to be honest they have all been good save for the fiat panda which was the worst car i've driven in the last 45 years. Last year I got a bargain deal with the UP the local dealer who was selling the basic model at £6,500 new. Now I have to say its not the prettiest looking car but its an absolute joy to drive far superior to any of the previous cars with excellent quality build Quote
Rock_Steady Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) Buy anything you suggested just NOT the Citroen. Crap clutches, crap brakes, crap gear box with a throw like a combine harvester, crap build quality and the dash board will be akin to a Christmas tree with faults by this time next year. Mrs Buster Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I test drove a Renault Wind at the weekend! Small, nippy, quirky and convertible with a boot you could fit a dead body in!! Quote
gsexr Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 had to read that twice when i saw the word wind Quote
