  1. The Elise is going hooning straight after a respray?! That's going to be mullered by the time you guys get back. Not sure I'd be doing a Euro hoon after an engine swap with no time to bed everything in either, but good luck to you all!
  2. If they did, then they'd be racing in the top levels already because they'd be cheaper!
  3. I suspect you'll fail the driveby with decats, but hopefully I'll be proved wrong Definitely bringing the 911 now, the MR2 won't be ready in time.
  4. Have to say I'm with Colin, a diesel CIvic is about as reliable as you're likely to find for reasonable money, so I'd suck up the image and drive that knowing I had something special waiting. You don't want to be getting something that gives you no end of trouble.
  5. But look at the young footballers: Talent there in spades, but often making the wrong decision at the wrong time because they don't have the experience yet. If it was purely a matter of talent and fitness, they'd be miles ahead of the older guys but that's not the case. Every now and then you get a superstar who breaks the mold (Lewis, Rooney, Woods) but for the most part it takes a bit of time to understand what's going on around you. They may look amazing running at lower levels with fellow kids, but put them in a more even playing field against wily old sods like Alonso and they're going to get caught out. What happens if it doesn't work out for him? In three years time he could get the boot, and then at age 20 his career could be over. After all, nobody wants a washed up F1 rookie.
  6. Mate of mine bought a nice diesel 159 last year, lovely looking car. All went fine, no probs at all. Until it randomly started ingesting bits of the engine, one step at a time.
  7. People are morons. Never forget that.
  8. Just get a new one, for what they cost it's not worth the hassle IMHO.
  9. Daft question time, please don't take these to heart as I'm genuinely interested and think I may have been a bit harsh in the first place after your last post OP! 1. Is this your first car? 2. Is this your first petrol car? 3. How many years have you been driving for? 4. Do you drive any other vehicles regularly?
  10. With no spring yes, the piston should be as free as anything. Sounds like the whole thing has corroded itself shut, you'll definitely need a new one.
  11. Alonso wants titles, not money. Realistically that means Merc or RB, unless Ferrari show some massive improvement in which case he'll stay put. McLaren are not the team to drive for right now. Button would be better off trying to find a different team, unless he's happy just pulling in a wage.
  12. It will be when you get it sideways
  13. Why would he? RB are still better than Ferrari despite a crap engine, and McLaren are bloody awful despite having an amazing engine. If he was going to move anywhere, it would be to MB but that's very unlikely given how Rosberg has just signed a new deal and Lewis is the joint best driver on the grid. Maybe Alonso will fancy a move to RB, but I can't see Seb going the other way.
  14. Too young, IMHO. No doubt he's talented (RB/TR don't sign crap drivers), but he hasn't even begun to learn his race craft yet. Where does this leave people like Carlos Sainz Jr? Too old already? Left on the scrapheap at 19? This time last year it was a toss up between JEV and Ricciardo for the seat at RB. Now JEV is out on his ear without a seat as yet. Tough sport, this.
  15. It's a much better car by all accounts, so I think you've probably made the right choice for you. I'll have to get a go in one soon, I think.
  16. Okay, so you don't want something that stands out then! Good choice sir, and huge man points for not messing around just getting one bought.
  17. Actually, it could be an issue with the guffinsprocket on the crank end.
  18. Given there is no engine brake in the Zed, then what else could he be talking about? Off the gas, no power being applied, downhill, same speed. Engine braking, 100%.
  19. I've never used WinBackup, although I do have it set up. In short though, what you really want is something that will copy an image of your drive: WinBackup likely just protects your files. That's my assumption anyway.
  20. What planet are you from? Engine location and driven wheels has nothing to do with engine braking: Please don't confuse the OP anymore than he already is! GMballistic explains it best, although diesels do engine brake as well just nowhere near as much due to them working via compression rather than spark.
  21. I was only half joking. If you want it for the look, just buy a gauge and connect a short bit of hose to it, then run that hose down to somewhere no one will ever see and leave it there. Saves the cost and the hassle.
  22. Dollar specifically asked for my parent's licences AND IDP when they went out in a March before they would rent them a car. Not a problem anymore as they bought the Camero, but done companies do ask.
  23. Just stick a gauge there anywhere then, don't connect it to anything.
  24. Actually, that's a good point: Does the budget allow for PCP as well as HP? Because that's going to open up a whole new world if so... Or hell, go leased and do it that way.
  25. Great cars, not for the OPs budget though.
