  1. Quite right. I don't want the star either, as I usually skip that bit. I remember watching stuff like when they got their Mum's in to review three hatchbacks, that was brilliant. Or when they first started doing the Which Is Fastest bits, they were new and different. I also remember when TG jumped the shark, which was when the review of the 997TT, the latest iteration of one of the most important sports car brands ever, was relegated to 5mins of night driving. That did it for me. The reviews of things like the CGT/Enzo/SLR were masterpieces in how to review properly, and I can remember them as if they were yesterday. I'm not in TV producing or writing, so I have no idea what new things should replace the chaff, but I'm damn sure we've not run out of stuff yet. What about motorsport? Get the presenters to race in stuff like the Drift championships, or a rally stage like Catchpole did, or any of the hundreds of other disciplines. That'd be ace, and would certainly fill a gap.
  2. I dunno, maybe more on the actual cars themselves? Just a thought.
  3. So where do you sit with it now? New 2ZZ, rebuild what you have, scrap it and start again?
  4. Sat on the phone?! What is this, 1993 all over again?! I know what you mean though, it superheats my urine these days that you have to be there for bang-on 9am on the internet else you don't have a hope in hell of getting a ticket for the big names. These days I either make sure I am there at 9, or I just don't go.
  5. Oh bugger, that's a right pain, sorry to hear that matey
  6. I can't stand the thought of some random person being picked for one of the most prestigious TV shows in the world. They should be hiring the cream of the crop, not picking some knobhead just because every man and his dog feels they know a lot about cars and can do a better job. Here's a hint: You can't. Lots of people know a lot about cars, that's just fact remembering, but being entertaining & funny & likeable & able to present a TV show takes a HELL of a lot of work and experience. I don't want TG does BB, thanks.
  7. Preview programme. Only limited games so far, but it's incredibly smooth.
  8. Just do whatever your engine builder said. They have the warranty, and if you break that then you're stuffed. There may be better ways than what they say, but is it worth the risk? I'd say no. Tbh though as long as you don't go screaming the tits off it then I can't see too much going wrong. Maybe the engine might last 100K miles instead of 200k miles, but so what?
  9. I've never bought from a ticket site, I have a very healthy sense of cynicism with stuff like that
  10. I'd be amazed if they refunded you what you paid vs face. From their Ts&Cs: "In the event that an event is cancelled or re-scheduled, viagogo reserves the right to cancel a seller’s transaction." Now, that is INCREDIBLY vague. Given that they also state that they never obtain title to the tickets and merely act as a go-between, then I would suggest that whatever is on the original ticket stands. If it says that it's non-transferable (and I bet it does), then the only person who can claim that refund from the venue is the seller. In the perfect world, I would hope that Viagogo step in and refund you, then the seller gets his refund. Would they? I don't think so. It's not the seller's fault the date got changed, so why should he lose out? Realistically, it would be up to you to sell them on yourself, hopefully at least covering your cost. Interestingly the entire site is governed by the Swiss courts, who's legal framework I have zero idea of! Not great news, I know, but that's how I read it.
  11. I believe most of the writing staff have left, so it should be significantly different. Who knows at this point though, they may well prioritise commercial interests over a refresh?
  12. Which is why you're trying to find reasons not to like him. Nowt wrong with that, but you're wrong about him not being a petrolhead. Really, try his books, even if you steal them from the internet, it'll change your view. He's a great writer and his life story is just amazing. As an example I used to dislike Bernie, until I read his official biography and now I have a grudging respect for the dwarf. It wasn't the presenters that stopped me watching TG, it was the format and the scripting. If they carry on in the same style then I won't be watching this one either, but if Evans can get half a chance at putting his own spin on it, I strongly suspect it's going to be superb.
  13. Chris Evans is like the British Jay Leno, and no-one ever accuses him of being a collector.
  14. I really don't think you could be more wrong. Would a collector let random strangers drive his incredibly rare and expensive Ferraris around the country for charity? Would a collector make sure that they all got used as often as possible? Would a collector give up 3/4 of his collection just to get a single car, that could be written off during said charity drive and leave him with nothing? No, but a petrolhead would. Seriously, go read his books, and then come back and tell me he's not fanatical about cars. Speaking about his Ferraris: Sound like just a collector to you?

  16. But that's all Chris Evans has ever done, entertainment shows. It's all he knows, so I can't see him suddenly changing overnight. The other two may well be crap and boring, but then so were May and Hammond.
  17. I've been playing Perfect Dark on mine, via the new 360 compatibility stuff. Works really well!
  18. Anyone who thinks Evans isn't a petrolhead wants their head examining. He's more keen on them than either Hammond or May are! Read his books and see for yourself. He moved heaven and earth to get that GTO.
  19. That's your answer. Quality of lens and filming technique, time to break the wallet out! Can you separate out shutter speed and aperture size when filming on your camera? I know I can't with my D90, but then I don't film on it anyway.
  20. You need to record at 60fps at least, preferably 120fps. That's by far and away the easiest way to sort this, you can do everything in post processing then. You'll need to look at your lenses, as a lower shutter speed will require a change to the aperture size, and your current lenses might not be up to the task. Can you even set any of that when filming on yours? Remind me again what camera and lenses you're using?
  21. Almost 100% it will. The BBC's new guidelines pretty much dictate that. Possibly a black guy too, to make sure that everyone feels included. It will be three big names though, as the brand is too important to risk unknowns like Harris or Ford.
  22. They'll reschedule, but I wouldn't expect it for a while. They're back in the EU in November, so they might get tacked on to the end of that IF the dates are free at the venues as well, and other various logistical issues. Next year is probably more reasonable to expect, bearing in mind they have US dates to do as well in July which might be cancelled and need rescheduling too...
  23. You do know who Chris Evans is, right? The guy who made his name in irreverant light entertainment, and then brought new life to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show which is now more successful than it's ever been? He's done everything from DFYT and TGI for the young 'uns, right up to proving himself a worthy successor to Terry Wogan and keeping the older generation happy. If he cannot do it, then it cannot be done. Also, he knobbed Rose from Dr Who, which automatically makes him a bit of a legend.
  24. Which is odd, as the iPhone corrects iphone to iPhone automatically.
