Actually A Plan are a good shout, I’ve used them before and they were decent on price for modified and fun stuff.

Also a lack of parts means people are having courtesy cars for much longer, and that has to be paid for somehow…

All insurance has gone up by around 30-40% in the last year, so honestly £1500 for a 24yr old isn’t too bad. Sounds like you’ve done your homework already, not much you can do now I’m afraid but suck up that cost

LUK would be the DMF I’d go for. Upgraded clutch isn’t necessary at those power levels, so pick whatever fits your price range really.

In fairness, and I’m actually being genuine on this, maybe it’ll be like the Bangle BMWs and many years down the line we’ll actually appreciate it more? Cos it’s not horrendous, it’s just not stunning.

This is one of my favourite threads on any forum, not just here. Passion for the car, a very reasoned build with details and logic behind everything, and such a down to earth guy behind the wheel with some remarkably relaxed driving on the hills. Keep up the good work mate 👍

I think you’ll find that many people stole the urine from folks who would say they drive “an Audi S Line” or a “Merc AMG” when really it was a two litre diesel saloon with pretty wheels and rock hard suspension Nissan killed the Nismo brand in the same way Vauxhall did with the VXR brand. No idea why that didn’t affect the Germans so much, but probably because underneath the base car was decent regardless.

That being said, R&T are normally solid on their reviews compared to the rest of the US press, so that’s quite a change from the TG one. There’s a couple of contradictions in there, but that doesn’t sound remotely like the same car!

Ouch, that’s a killer of a review. I know I’m not a fan of the looks so take whatever I say about it with a pinch of salt, but there is nothing desirable about that car at all. Hell, the M2 is significantly uglier in every aspect but at least BMW nailed the driving part of it. And it’s cheaper.

Manual M2 would get my money I think, but the Mustang would 100% be on the test drive list.

You’re right, it’s not a one size fits all. However, simply saying “I’ve run Falkens and they’re great” is like saying “I’ve got a Nissan and it’s really good!”: you could be talking about a GTR or a Micra, and one is very different than the other. If you’re going to give advice, then all I’m asking is to be specific about it. Reasonable, no? No one has mentioned anything about tyres being dangerous or people dying, apart from you. But there is a huge difference in feel between something awful and something brilliant. I used to love the old Sessanta things from years ago, they were lacking in grip but had outstanding feel so were great fun. Yeah, I dig Michelins. And? Take my recommendation or not, that’s up to the individual. Nothing wrong with the Conti SC6 either, but the OP asked for the gold standard.

With all due respect, just putting the tyre manufacturer doesn't help anyone as there's a world of difference between base level and top level Falkens, much as there is between base and top Michelins (although one brand I'd happily use, another I wouldn't touch...!). Tbh, if you only ever nail the car in a straight line or just drive round posing, anything from a quality brand will do. It's only if you're a keen driver and know what you want from a tyre that we then need to start discussing the top top stuff. Which would the MPS4S/5 (depending on tyre size and availability).

Could well be two sticking callipers then, shame the garage didn’t diagnose that when you returned the car to them the first time (or was it just a phone call?), but that’s an easy fix whether it’s a strip down and re-grease or a new seal kit.

Sticky calliper will do that, after a drive is one wheel almost on fire if you put your hand near it? Or are they all equal temperature?

What I will say is think very carefully, as commuting is an absolute killer for life. Stuck on a train, stuck in traffic, it’ll soon suck the life out of you and make any job suddenly seem very unworthy of your precious time. I’m not saying I wouldn’t do it, but it would have to be the job of a lifetime/short term to rack up big bucks for retirement to make me ever consider commuting to London from where you’re talking about.
