  1. banking has changed a lot, I remember my parents and grandparents talking about getting a bank loan for the farm or even just for something small; you'd wear your best suit, you'd prep your reasons etc but the loan wasn't always given even if you were a safe bet. back in the past very little risk was taken banks were far more cautious of the money on how and who they lent to. now it is far more open. far more eager to lend and give you money. they are far more profit driven then they were 30 years ago yes they are not our parents but they still have to lend responsibly; the public are not blameless but the financial industry allowed and put in place the triggers. they ignored warnings and continued to gamble dangerously. I think the banking sector is important and will be key to financial growth and recovery, but they need to be regulated and they need to be kept in line. to make good profits you need to take a certain amount of risk, but the risk needs to be controlled and clear boundaries set out. they are at the end of the day working with our money, our savings, our wages, our pensions, yes they need to make a return on that money but they were getting far richer off our money and how they invested it then we ever did banking with them.
  2. But that analogy works both ways, if we're children then the banks are like parents, and like any good parent they should set the limits and boundaries appropriately because they know you're going to screw up if they let you run completely loose.
  3. that's an overly simplistic view and not totally true. yes the basis of the comment is true, but banks should have a moral obligation not to lend to people more than they can repay. Nationwide building society is a prime example they have always assessed their customers and if they feel any loan would put you in a position you cant afford they won't lend it to you and that incldeds mortgage. they have always been a responsible lender. others have been less morally responsible. e.g 100% LTV mortgages, offering more than the traditional 3.5 times your salary, extendning the rules on guarantors etc. and with reference to our financial services the "banking" can be complex and covers vast areas. but their unregulated dabbling in what was basically gambling by buying and selling debt, investing in futures and playing high risk gains to get the largest financial returns etc. that was a major part of the crash because it was like playing hot potato and trying not to get left with the debt. when the trust went out of the market the debt went toxic and people couldn't pay it back.
  4. It was the lack of control put in place by our politicians over time that allowed so much damage to happen here when it spread. there could and should have bee nbetter protocols in place to stop them gambling with as much as they did at one time. the need to keep a certain amount in reserve etc would have meant that it still would have hit and hurt but less bail out would have been needed. but you can thank our genius chancellor mr brown for that balls up. he was happy to deregulate the banking industry and leave them to it playing fast and loose.
  5. Now this isn't directly car related but as a lot of people on here come from technical, design or engineering backgrounds it might be a subject that strikes a chord with you. With the introduction of the new EBACC system creative subjects are being squeezed out and in some schools being dramatically altered or even closed. if you are a strong believer in the value of creative subjects you should have a quick peek at this https://www.data.org.uk/news/ebacc-debate-in-parliament-on-monday-4-july-2016/ and if possible write to your local MP interestingly I have just done that but what I got in the automated response surprised me If you are asking me to attend or speak in a debate, as a Minister I do not participate in these debates but I will endeavour to find out about the issue and will wait till after the debate before replying, so that I can provide you information from what the Government Minister said in the debate. if my mp won't attend any debates at all or speak at any, are they actually representing me as a constituency member; someone brighter and smarter may be able to give me an answer on this
  6. agree with coldel, prior to joining the EEC we were facing the possibility of doing a Greece
  7. I find arguing who has the most intelligent people voting on there side unhelpful same as saying uneducated people vote to leave because they know no better. for some this is a vote from the heart, for others a vote with the head. this applies to both sides. to claim either one has the moral or academic high ground is rubbish. neither side can forecast beyond 6 months anything beyond that is based on guess work and hypotheticals. both leave and stay hold their risks some more short term than others. for the remain camp the risks are less likely in the short term but not impossible in the future.
  8. It wasn't really an article for pro or against leave and stay it was an interesting read looking at the change in views across Europe. a lot of things going on at the moment feel very much like the quiet before the storm almost like the build up to the great war. I'm not for any reason here suggesting that is what the outcome will be but both my brother and I have been watching and noticing that globally there seems to be a move against standard democracy. the likes of trump would never get air time in the past but now there seems to be a wave of dissatisfaction with the economic strains and hardships the feeling that there is a lack of trust and transparency in politicians. who knows what could happen globally. I think Putin is watching with interest; if Europe turns into an infighting mess he might fancy his chances and make for another land grab. several of the ex soviet blocks are getting very nervous at them moment. I think if we leave the EU will punish us to try and deter others from getting any ideas. Switzerland's trade deal is currently up for negotiation; but the EU have postponed it till after the UK vote to make sure no one gets any ideas. I don't think the Europe we are currently in will be the same in 15 years time. Several big name shave already said they will do what ever it takes to protect both the Euro and the EU. and I believe this will long term result in things being rolled out that we can't get out of. I think if we're meant to stay in then we have to do it properly; pop on the bathing trunks and dive straight in. we'll never be taken seriously sat there dipping our toe in when ever it takes our fancy. for the same reason if we're out I think we should be properly out. we can't claim to leave and then pick and choose the bits we like and ignore the bits we don't
  9. I'm holding out to see what happens, I've always found Evans to be abrasive, but my opinions towards him have softened. I felt he was the weakest link in the show that day. found the presenting in the extra gear to be more solid. like the part offroad track and the use of a better car. but was never really a fan of the stars in cars bit anyway. the test will be if i'm still watching all the way through by episode 4.
  10. very interesting reading http://s.telegraph.co.uk/graphics/projects/europe-ref-fed-up-vote/index.html Its a long article, but it puts across some of the uncertainity of staying in that worries me about remaining in Europe. I worry that staying in is like buying a ticket for the titanic after finding out its already hit the iceberg.
  11. Grid type that interlocks, I went mid range, but they do a super heavy duty version. It works well as a shed base as well, quicker and easier to lay than slabs.
  12. also its semi permeable so you don't need planning permission
  13. I have used a similiar product to this https://www.grassform.co.uk/products/ground-reinforcement/?gclid=Cj0KEQjw4J-6BRD3h_KIoqijwvkBEiQAfcPiBUeStZX5dIhl7GEi_n7CvAVFJ3iuMNVnqxkerY5Edk8aAuHi8P8HAQ You will need to dig out and level the ground, lay out sand and compact and then add a membrane ontop to stop weeds, and then fill with gravel. if you wanted to do a full job some hardcore at the bottom would guarantee no rutting. having a good base to start with makes all the difference.
  14. @mouthwash, everyone is entitled to an opinion. personally I feel a lot of people sacrificed a lot to give us the vote, back in the old days just the gentryed folk were allowed to vote, then the sufferage movement and 2 world wars. I personally think voting should be compulsory for all. 1. you can't complain if you haven't voted. if you don't like whats happening or happens but you didn't vote well you can't really complain. 2. @Ekona 16 year olds are no more stupid or influenced then any other demographic just look at the sun, mirror etc. 3. if everyone doesn't vote how can the vote be representative of the population. its both the advantage and disadvantage of democracy. 4. all votes should have a none of the above, it at least allows for those disaffected to be actually counted. not voting in protest just lets people get away with it.
  15. Came across this it allows you to try out parts on your car and rerenders a full 3D version for you to see. http://www.3dtuning.com/en-US/tuning/nissan/350z.(z33)/coupe-2003/3DT-Share-5/RicqvzfBjF Enjoy
  16. They rolled out camerons advisor today for the out camp, I wonder if in the last week they'll bring in oposition politicians mums to set their banners in one camp or the other. last week it was the ex mayor of new York in favour of staying. lucky us we have 4 more weeks of band standing on both sides and its only going to get more hyped as the date arrives. I did like the fact that Eddie Izzard has been touring the country getting young people enthused to vote as it will have a massive impact on them either way they should be voting. If I'm honest i think they should have lowered the vote to 16 for this as its going to have a massive impact on all generatios but them more so as they'll live longer
  17. I need to come back and watch again, when its not 1.30 in the morning.
  18. I started but fell asleep, (work related tiredness not the program)
  19. not yet, been waiting on the insurance money to come through. not fully decided, but I think it will most likely be single channel for now.
  20. Me Likey very much, nearly bought one instead of the XKR, but changed my mind as thought it would be a money pit. oh the irony. back when I was looking there were mostly around the 9k mark. still fancy a cerbera myself.
  21. And the president of nigeria was upset when Cameron called his country "fantastically corrupt"
  22. you need the HDMI if you are going to run an Iphone on apple carplay it plugs into an adapter with USB and then has a single connector that comes from it into the Iphone. this is from memory as i don;t have an iphone
  23. There must be so much weight and push at the back it proably wheelies all the way down the road.
  24. I have a denford TriacPC just about to rebuild the cabinet and convert to mach 3 on it. also recently sold a denford Nova Cam to husky on here which would have been the size you would have been looking at. have a look around as you may be able to find an old school CNC and convert it quicker than self building. and then build your bigger machine.
