  1. OK, to be more specific I currently own a 350Z on coilovers with basic mods and brand new RE050A's, a standard MR2 Roadster, a heavily modified 400hp S13 200SX and a GTI-6 with a few choice mods. I just listed them in reverse "fun on track" order, the top three are interchangable depending on where you are driving The lap times dont make a blind bit of difference to the enjpoyment when you are out there. You could also buy the top three all together for less than Id sell the Zed for. Each to their own and all, the Zed is great, capable and rewarding and I loved taking it round Donington in the summer, but as someone with a fair amount of experience of a lot of different cars I wouldnt be recommending it as a track only car. You known mr lizard is a competition race driver sponsored by abbey? yes i do, and like docwra i've tracked most of my cars and i've owned and driven and tracked all but the 200sx. and can say i've had more fun in the mr2 and gti6. yes you can turn the zed into a track car that can compete and when its at that standard i'm sure its good, but i know for one that the money spent on new panels, tuning race parts, brakes setups etc will have possible cost what the cars worth and possible double. and the same for you neil, i'm sure your car is extrememly competant now. but the cash spent to get it there like you've said before is about 10-15k. what docwra and i are saying is that for about 6-7k you could buy and build something like the mr2, mx5 or gti6 for alot less and it be just as fun if not more, and probably faster. where as with the zed you'd only just buy the vehicle before you even start track preping it. and when you do its going to chew through consumables alot quicker than the other cars, and they'll cost more to buy as the vehicle is bigger using bigger parts. as has been said before the zed is a great GT but its not a first choice track car.
  2. And I think you are correct. The one in the pic is a Mark 2 series 3, NA UK car. Bog standard with the exception of the radio and wheels. i only pointed the dates out as you said 1976 vintage, which slightly confused me
  3. i thought the mk1's were 80's early 90's mk2 most of the 90's mk3 the 2000 plus
  4. i completely agree chris, i suppose i just adjust my driving for the conditions so i don't notice a tyre getting worse, (unless its frozen or snowing) i've found the falkens in the wet are good until you get down to about 3 degree's temp.
  5. you'll all hate me! mine was a photographic memory, i'd cram the week before the exam; sit it, pass, and a week later i couldn't tell you anything from it.
  6. its the same as racing, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. yes grip will be down because its wet, basic laws of physics tell us that. but if you are smooth with your throttle responce and steering and braking inputs it shouldn't struggle to much, added to that the TCS should help to keep you on the road. i'm running nearly 400 bhp in rwd on falkens and they seem to be coping fine. yes less grip than dry, but by no means a bum clenching moment yet. if you can afford to have 2 sets then winter/wet tyres make a huge difference. but i must admit i found the falkens pretty good in the wet. good water dispersion and confident grip.
  7. Is there some reason why you would want to convert an MR2 into a turbocharged one, as opposed to just buying a JDM version that left the factory as a turbocharged car? your refering to the old mk2 version, i'm refering to the mk3 roadster non of which came with FI and the reason i'd go for the Mk3 over the Mk2 is the chassis is alot better the handling is better and its not such a knife edge car to drive as the mk2. still requires a bit of talent as the weight is all in the middle. but when you get it right it is so rewarding. Thanks. I'd made a big and wrong assumption there thinking we were on about the Mark 2. The problem with the Mark 3, obviously in my opinion, is that it's nowhere near as damn pretty as the mark 2! i think the mk3 was very pretty, its only downside was its headlights, made it look like a frog. but i love the Mk2 so much, never owned one but drove a few and love them, i might even still get one at some point as they are so cheap these days.

  9. yeah same as the Mr2 roadster turbo conversion. i reckon both would out drive and be faster round the track by a long way, with the best part of 250 bhp per ton compared to 172 bhp per ton. they'd run rings round a zed and for less money as well. you'd have to spend a hell of a lot of cash on the zed to make it anywhere near competetive against both of them, and for a fraction of the cost you can still keep up grading the MX5 and the MR2. they even put the S2000 to shame when it comes to price of parts etc. and running costs
  10. chesterfield i'm sorry to hear about the buglary, as with regards to reasonable force i dealt with this alot when i used to be a doorman, its one thing to defend yourself but if you're excessive the blame can end up on you. with regards to the police i was always told by local coppers that when they aren't there its your word against the criminals, but if they come round the corner as your hitting someone they are legally obliged to follow up, this is a lot to do with the who started it issue. if the other person is laying on the ground and your laying into them as the cops come in you can be seen as the aggressor. if you are going to challenge someone i would be very careful, personally you don't know what they might be carrying, you might go down with a bat or a knife thinking you're the big man and they might have a gun. and if you do have you're captain brave pants on i would look to disarm and to restrain. i would very much like to batter the crap out of someone who violated my home, but i'm also aware i put alot at stake if i do. not just my life but my career too. items can be replaced but if you do something stupid it can have a terrible knock on effect on you're life after. as for those with shotguns, if you are going to use them,i would suggest changing your buckshot for rock salt or foam balls. you don't want to be up for a murder charge.
  11. wow, i think someone needs to snap him up quick, before he revolutionises the motor industry
  12. rare rims had a thrwad on this and offered a range of suitable tyres for the zed and sensible prices
  13. i use dodo blue velvet and purple haze, but i have the pro versions which have red mist mixed in with it. as for layering waxes we were told by the guys at meguairs that you can't do that. all a wax does is fill the pores in the paint and creating a better waterproof finish, by layering your just applying more wax on top and then rubbing it off. you only need 1 layer of wax and job done. if you want to finish it use a sealer.
  14. with regards to high mileage engine, if its go tthat far with out issue it usually means its less likely to suffer from the issues that have plauged others. like i said before if the compression is good when you buy it, then there is no reason to worry about it. a car is more than capable of being run permanently on WOT, as long as its maintained well it will go for a long time. the issues your refering to is if its not maintained. but again i wouldn't be buying a zed for track so i wouldn't be checking all this stuff
  15. personally if i was to get a track car MR2 Roadster £2000 (140 bhp in a car that weighs 996kg) and its mid engined turbo upgrade £2000 (pushes bhp to 200-250 bhp in a car that then weighs 1010 tyres are 16" so dirt cheap for anyhting from 888's to yoko's what ever you want and plenty to choose from with popular tyre size you could stiffen the chassis with upgrades from £200 - £1000 makes a big difference for track days, but even in standard form it handles well the engines in the middle so the balance is supurb, and so easy to work on, i could change the manifold on it in under an hour, and dropping the engine out takes very little. you can even upgrade the mr2 to a 2zz engine or a V6, and i believe someones even squeezed a V8 in the back as well but this does tend to throw the handling with all that extra weight. parts are dirt cheap, and wear and tear on the vehicle is low becuase the weight is. and it revs to 8.5k its RWD you can get cages and or hard tops for them if you wanted it more coupe esque and if turbo'd etc will devaste most other things on the track. its as close to a lotus elise as you'll get for about half the price. the setup is so good lotus use the 1zz and the 2zz in their cars as well as sc and turbo'd version.
  16. I've owned a GTi6 and the MR2 Roadster and the S2k all have been emensly fun cars to drive, and hugly rewarding. the GTi6 is an awsome little stealth car, looks standard but goes like stink, and weighs sod all. the Mr2 only has 140 bhp, but it weighs so little it could out perform many bigger cars expecially in the corners, and the S2k was just a higher powered more refined version.
  17. far better cars out there for less money that will be more competant than the zed. as she's not an out and out sports car to start with you'll need to spend a big wodge getting her up to spec. then add in the fact that she's a fat girl and she'll hammer your consumables. S2000 would be my first choice, there are some leggy ones out there going for cheap cash these days not disimiliar to the zed, also some good porsche boxsters out there for small cash. and thats got the engine in the right place (the middle). MR2 Roadster made a good track weapon as well
  18. to throw a "curve ball" into the mix, while browsing wheels i came across these the Axis Angle http://www.axiswheels.com/view-wheel/axis-angle website happens to have the black and the silver modelled on a 370Z brings a new twist to the linea corse dyna, and with some awesome concaveness.
  19. Hard top off, Roof Down, Heater on +1
  20. meant to be one of the best driving cars out there. i nearly got one after the zed, and again after the S2000, and its still on my list. but agree the fact that only petrol heads know and respect it is a little bit of a downer.
  21. Who does ? for some reason my work does, everything is dell
  22. love the cayman and the M3
