  1. Comparison sites and a bit fiddling is the way forward. 26y/o with 8yr ncb paying £304 a year on the zed. Exhaust declared. With AXA this year, who knows who Il change to next year. I did buy a house in the nicer part of town but not sure it made a lot of difference. Do they even ask how long you've owned the car? I can't recall. I remember laughing at a post an old member posted a while back called J4CKO. About how he created an imaginary woman named Claire to go onto his insurance as she lowered it by x amount per year. I don't know the technicalities of doing this but it did make me laugh. Iv got the other half on as she drops it significantly. But only when relationship changed to civil partner/ cohabiting. I'm a scrimper and pay in full and usually three weeks in advance, that saves a little bit too.
  2. I hear getting your ply Base (foundation) correct and level is the hardest part of it. Nailing the fake turf on is the easy bit. Oh, and it costs a fortune!
  3. It's certainly pointed out cars which have been written off. But as with everything, if it's not declared as a write off, nobody (including HPI) will know it was a write off. It's only when you get it on the ramps can you see its been in an accident. Most cars have had paintwork in their lifetime and providing its been fixed up, cosmetically you may never know what it's been involved in until you delve into it. By which time it may be too late, granted.
  4. I had similar issue with clutch stuck down when doing a 1/4 mile on an airfield. Smelt for about a day. I had boiled my clutch fluid and it was a dark colour. So changed clutch and brake fluid and so far it hasn't happened again. But then again I haven't been racing on an airfield lately.. It's been about 6+ month with no problems after the change. Chris Drift on YouTube also experienced this clutch stuck down last week while drifting. It's a common thing on the zed unfortunately.
  5. LRF4N, please explain? I was aware Experian was a full HPI check? Though there are varying levels of check - I think it's 'Gold' check which I use by default.
  6. Clutch slipping? Miss fire?
  7. Ouch. I know health and safety is key, but I'd be trying to rescue those cars parked outside. Has that alloy wheel melted off the hub? That must have been some heat.
  8. I work within the motor industry and use Experian. However I'm not sure how much this costs to the public. Should also give you CAP & Glass price guides with the check. Shows if finance outstanding, if classified as insurance write off, car stats, previous plates assigned to the vehicle, fuel economy, cap & glass price guides, no of owners etc etc
  9. A garage turning away work? Doesn't seem like a very capable one if they would rather someone else have the money.
  10. I like that maroon mx5, I wouldn't mind my car wrapped in that colour, or a dark blood red metallic or pearl. You don't get much lower than a lowered Mx5 do you!
  11. Jack the back end up and stick cruise control on
  12. Personally I don't think I'd ever ask someone to be a guarantor and risk their financial standing for me. If the bank won't take me on due to my high level of risk I wouldn't expect family to. If a dog bites someone for instance, it's likely to bite somebody again in its lifetime. Would you try and pat it on the head whilst it's eating it's bowl of food? No. When I was asked to keep SIL in my home for 4 months after her parents pulled out of the THIRD house they had under offer I thought no. They're going to pull out of the next one and it's their responsibility to mop up their own mess. They should have arranged accommodation for her before they made that choice. I got made out to be the bad one, I 'let them down in their hour of need'. The way I see it, it wasn't an hour of need, I'd more than happily comply with that. It was four months of need!! No.
  13. I'd love an Ark Grip, they sound amazing. With decats I'm sure it sounds even better popping and crackling! Let us know on here once you've had the remap done to let us know what you think.
  14. Depending on what supporting mods you've done gains aren't a game changer. I hear a lot of good things about mapping the zed though. Smoother power, more responsive etc. Where's just about every turbo car you can map and see enormous gains just about everytime. Kinda makes me envious at times. But when their turbos blow up I'm glad iv got the NA zed!
  15. Phew, I'm glad you took the advice onboard and dodged that bullet. You done the right thing for both you and your wife. Sounds like your wife is siding with you. It will all blow over and a weight is off your shoulders. It's a risk you didn't need to take.
  16. In smartphones I went from an iPhone 3GS to a Samsung S3 then upgraded in late 2016 to a Samsung S5 (kept this for one month) then my Boss offered me a brand new S7 Edge for £200 so I took it. He didn't like Android, some do some don't. Personally iv grown fond of Android. Initially after the switch I enjoyed FREE apps I had to pay for via Apple. Not sure if it's still this way. I remember watching 'The Matrix' years ago and seeing the girl learn how to fly a helicopter in minutes. The impossible. But now with the way the Internet is evolving, you can look online, wherever you are, and probably do that! Miracles.
  17. Doc, I wonder if anyone has had say a 245/45/18 on one side and a 245/40/18 on the other. I'm sure it's happened before. Maybe not so noticeable in a shopping wagon but on a sporty car probably more so. Not that this is directly related to OP but you've made me wonder now. Just think to yourself 'I wonder what Ekona would do' and go and buy a set of MPSS. I did, I think they are great

Sorry, I spoke to my brother again it wasn't supercharged, it was just remapped. I don't know why I said supercharged. The clutch can't take higher than 300 bhp for very long anyway.
  19. Is it bad that it doesn't weigh more than me? Big boned. That's what it is.
  20. 12 of the 16 mechanics who worked on stripping the tank died of cancer. If somebody told me they would pay me immense amounts to recover that tank after that test, I would tell them where to stick it. I wonder how long the two man recovery team lasted after exposure. Interesting read though!
  21. Ooh that looks fancy! I like the colour. Ricey it can't have been that hard with an air sander! Looks like you done a cracking job.

The new s3 is a formidable weapon. Iv not driven one but with 310 bhp and auto box it must absolutely fly. Not to mention you can remap these beasts to unleash more performance. My brother tells me he met somebody with an s1 which was supercharged and running 350+ bhp, however the s1 oem clutch cannot take this much power and breaks. That's what he told me anyway!

I got told off for exceeding 4k rpm before it was properly run in. He wasn't happy with me. If that engine had a Audi s' tronic auto box, even with the 50 bhp advantage your zed may have, you wouldn't stand a chance. It's just too efficient and lightning fast at changing gear. Not to mention launch control. But with the s1 being manual, I'd say the zed edges on it. (obviously not from a standing start as Audi Haldex system plays a part) but once you get going.
  24. The tank was in service after being within 500m of a nuclear blast? How is that even possible? A friend of mine worked at a nuclear facility and told me of busses which were exposed to radiation and now live encased within concrete to avoid any exposure. It was also pretty serious should a seagull poop on you having sat on a chimney. Radioactive poop. Geiger counter comes out.
