  1. Often link that article above, unless your suffering serious fade on track, there really is no point, the std Brembos are very good set up
  2. Or put std cats back in, that will make a big difference.
  3. Sorry to the bearer of more bad news, dbs dont work on a linear scale, so roughly every 6bd more is twice as loud, so 5db is probably still two times louder or there abouts than the allowed and sound travels a long way, , all depends whats between the circuit and the moaning neighbours, if its wide open space, there is nothing to deaden the noise. Try some bungs though, its a cheap punt and if you do get on a day, it will be worth it, they are great fun
  4. People do it over here, but tracks arent stupid, there are db metres on the inside and outside of the circuit so at some point your exhaust tip is angled directly at the db metre, so sadly not the simple. The best idea is to actually point it directly at the ground. Op, static and drive bys are completley different, my vx at goodwood was 95db static, well within the static test, drive by was spiking the metre at 102db, black flagged and had to spend the rest of the day off throttle past the 3 drive by metres, no fun at all. At 110 you wont pass any static, so you have no choice, an exhaust swap shouldnt take longer than hour, so maybe 35 quid. The noise limits are not set by the tracks or organisers, they are set by the councils for the moaning nimbys. You could simple try a db killer/exhaust bung, wont cost you much to try.
  5. Important part is what are the front offsets, did you buy them new? Sorry just seen the title, how much do you need to clear the caliper, 15 or 20? Personally 5mm is so small i dont think you would even notice it on the rear!
  6. I suppose its swings and roundabouts, they made particular mention at Goodwood that if you have active exhaust valves (race/track mode), make sure they are open for the static if you intend to have them open on track, if you keep them closed to pass the static test and then open them when on track, they will not be pleased. I also guess people can fudge their static with bungs, valves, screamer pipes etc etc but then "change" that for when they go out, so obviously louder, i guess drive bys are as important for this reason and very difficult for "us" to test without being at a particular circuit at a particular time.
  7. I suppose its a more level playing field with regards to machinery but most of the bike days I did had beginner, intermediate and advanced groups and the organisers would monitor and move people around to suit but most track days I do now in a car are open or semi open pit so you could be out with a sub 1k car up to whatever. We are all told not 5 mins before we go out on track how to behave/drive, we all know the rules and its up to the organisers to enforce that whilst we are out on track imho, some do, some sort of do, some dont. The day Keyser mentioned was just silly, i ended up in a queue all because one guy at the head of that queue wasnt doing as he was told (indicating and moving over for faster cars) and the rest of that queue were doing as they were told by not overtaking unless given the signal, no real point the guy in front of me moving out of my way as he was stuck too, it was no different to the guy who sits in the fast lane of the motorway who just wont budge. I had it at Goodwood last year, i came up behind this guy in a 330 or similar within half a lap, it was obvious i was much quicker but he just would not indicate and move, followed him for 2 laps, in the end i just overtook on the straight. My personal opinion is its up the organisers to be more active, wave blue flags etc etc and if offenders repeat, chuck them off, car or ability is immaterial.
  8. Ekona is on the money, most exhausts on their own "should" pass static and drive bys (of course there are exceptions), add hfcs and you will be 50 50 at the quieter days, add decats (even silenced) and you will really struggle. My personal choice would be, a pair of hfc coupled with an exhaust with decent silencers, i.e Milltek, Fujitsubo, Nismo. I have mentioned before its actually a real bug bear of mine that there is no standard testing that we can all adhere to, I dont agree that we should make out cars as quiet as possible just to please the nimby's, that is not to say I think we should be able to run our cars as loud as we want, but being in or watching a 350z (as an example) wafting by with barely a noise removes part of the whole experience of enjoying the cars, you only have to look at one of the biggest complaint of the new f1 cars, lack of noise. Sorry to waffle but to answer your questions, you will not be allowed on any track without being tested, there will also be drive by tests, fail either and you will not be allowed on track and no money back. I dont think you will pass with your current set up. If you like your current set up, just bolt up a std system and book a day, see if you like it.
  9. I actually really fancy a purple, but just dont think it will suit a vx, all will be revealed and maybe with a twist ; )
  10. Just kind of got it and used it, lol, wanted to make the most of the rest of the summer and autumn, will get some photos up after the wrap
  11. Its been a slow winter but a few plans for the car are progressing for the track day season. First really is a stab at sorting out the exhaust, more so noise, so in the progress of sorting that with a redesigned back box and possibly get rid of the cat and replace with a resonator. I have also got an enclosed airbox to get rid of a little of the supercharger whine as it is rumoured they spike the db metres. The bodywork was a little untidy, so stripped out the std na vents to be replaced with turbo ears, a light bit of bodywork and then decided to go for a wrap, hopefully it should be back sometime next week, will be getting the black wheels refurbed in a stupid colour. I am also looking at getting some bigger injectors as i am led to believe mine are right on or over what most like to run with injector duty, then a fresh map to compliment the new exhaust and injectors. Will get some photos up once its back from wrapping, its Ekonas favourite colour too
  12. The vx may be the exception, not pretty like an elise, but they are purposeful looking
  13. I thought it was universally agreed, you do not buy pretty cars, 350z ragtop, 6 series etc
  14. Them is good odds then I would have thought though appealing to the "5%" who do want an inspection, it would be within the sellers bests interests as you did
  15. Sorry to sound daft, cant you just get a decent bolster for her to sit on, seems a bit extreme selling your car to suit her.
  16. I am curious, i have zero intention ever of buying a Cayman, but the whole ims/bore scoring issue is obviously something most are aware of when buying and a potential mine field, so, surely owners wanting to prove their cars are free from issue, would it not be good practice for them to have had the inspection done for potential buyers rather than a buyer punting out the money on a chance (however low) and possible having to fork out another inspection fee on further cars? After coming from possibly the worst reputation for any car with regards to reliability, Rx7's (so i am not just picking on Porsches), any seller would as a matter of course try to make every effort to offer their car with the relevant checks carried out to give their car the best chance of selling without further costs to a buyer. Note: It does tickle me that possibly 1 in 10 cars is brushed off as not a big deal. If 1 in 10 of my jobs went wrong, i probably would be out of business.
  17. ^^^ I currently have a twin scroll on my vx220 and love the sound and that was only downside to the v3 on my 350z, however, i would happily sacrifice the sound for 50 bhp or so more the vortechs give, its universally acknowledged the stillens are low on power compared to vortechs, supporting mods and mapping taken into consideration, no one is crying about it, its just factual.
  18. 1) Possibly sh*t paint, possibly a reaction with the chemicals in the rustoloem 2) Yes 3) Of course its your fault, pretty sure most tins suggest trying on an area that is unseen for this very reason.
  19. I would very much think its dependent on the coilover, whilst i have no doubt its improved massively there is probably a reason why most motorsports still use springs and shocks, apart from the associated gubbins necessary to run air
  20. Few and far between, you need to be chatting to mopedmark and paralello.
  21. When i am looking to buy, i literally look everywhere, autotrader, ebay, pistonheads, gumtree etc I guess it just depends on what your preference is to where you would look first, so if you see a good example in the first place you look, unlikely you will look elsewhere, unless of course it turns out to be not what your expecting, but personally i draw up a shortlist so look everywhere anyway.
  22. My opinion and thats all it is, if your trying vent anything ideally whatvever your trying to vent, it needs to be ducted. The "bonnet" of my vx220 is heavily vented, but it is ducted round the rad, it is very efficent when moving, but in traffic the temp rises quickly. I also remember going back to rx7's, which ran exceptionally hot, there was many a vented bonnet avalable, none of them actually proved to reduce under bonnet temps, they were all just for looks. In my opinion the most effective way to reduce temps is to either have all the hot stuff ceramic coated, manifolds, turbo hotsides etc or if you dont want the expense, heat wrap, with two manifolds on the 350z in a small engine bay I would bet thats where most of the heat is coming from, not the rad.
