  1. Yeah, I broke a Mitsi Evo that I crashed at Donnington some years ago - I made good money on the parts (lots of valuable after market stuff) but it wasn't half a PITA to do. Might just whack it on ebay then for 5k or so and see what happens.. clutch / gearbox aside it's in pretty good nick.
  2. Morning.. The (original, 106k mile!) clutch recently went on my otherwise very good condition 07 HR Coupe. With a 5.0 XKR on the way, clutch prices being what they are (~£1500 for supply and fitting) and with the GB needing a refurb (the synchros on 6th are slowly going, another ~£500), I'm tempted to break it rather than sell it as I think I might get more money for it. Has anybody done similar? Any experiences? Rough ideas about what the break value of a HR Z is? Cheers, Richard
  3. Known Z problem. HR 'box is supposed to be better than DE, but neither is great. Mine (HR) is similar to yours (5th to 6th), though mine's nowhere near as bad. Synchros / whole box can be replaced, but it aint cheap and the problem will probably reoccur again in the future (after considerable mileage)
  4. It's cold, wet, and if it's anything like where I am at the moment, foggy too. Of course it's going to get full of condensation, it probably did happen last year but you just didn't notice, and the people who say "drive it more" are spot on. The end
  5. Or just set it to a really high rev threshold so it comes on less?
  6. Haven't done it myself, but similar ratios are available for the e46 M3 which I considered for a while. Ultimately it depends what sort of driving you do? Sure it'll make it feel more lively lower down the range, but it costs you on cruising rpm being higher, lower vMax, more gear changes, etc..
  7. My plot has thickened somewhat. Boss can't replace me within my notice period so has asked if I'll work to the end of the FY. If I work the extra three months, they'll give me an additional three months pay on top of my salary as an incentive. It's tempting as even after 40% tax it's not a small amount of money, but it's not big either, and it does mean an extra three months of stress, hassle, being grumpy, it's delaying me taking a break, delaying me finding next job, etc...
  8. Bloody clouds! I'm in IT too - networks and data centres mainly - the way some customers / vendors go on about clouds you'd think they are magic and can cure cancer! It's like they don't realise they're actually really complicated underneath the covers :-/
  9. **** this is hard. I usually work from home but I'm in the office today; I just tried writing a letter to my staff to let them know I've resigned and ended up crying my eyes out. Rang my old boss too and ended up barely able to speak down the phone. This is not my style at all... Around here I'm the straight-talking one with all the answers - something's wrong with me - it's not supposed to be this hard, is it? Currently sat on the bog, it's the only quiet place to go.
  10. Still can't work out if stupid or brave tbh... I hate 'losing' and this feels like giving up, but I can't see any other way to a happy career. Must not give in to quitters remorse! :-/ Nice to see some success stories out there.
  11. A used 'pre moon landing' Omega Speedmaster? They used to be that kind of money a couple of years ago - I haven't looked recently though. Classic look imho.
  12. For the third time in 12 years with the same employer, I've just resigned. Unlike previous times where money played a part and they could pay me more to keep me, this time I just want out. I have a brilliant team of people working for me which has made this a hard decision, but the rest of the business is just too hard to work with. I've woken up worrying about work stuff too many times, so now it's over. I'm early 30s, no kids, have a Mrs with a good job and who is 100% behind my decision, we have some money tucked away, and it's strangely relieving not knowing what job I might do next after a couple of months off. Has anybody else made a similar 'blind leap'? Care to share your success stories? (You can keep the failure stories, thanks! :-p)
  13. I got a Breitling Colt Automatic Chronograph as an engagement present - wear it every day... bloody service costs are eye watering! http://www.breitling.com/multimedia/pdf/sav/sav-894.pdf Back on topic, I'm not convinced that Rado looks like a good 'investment' watch, if that's what you're after. Probably better off looking at a used Omega or similar. I have my eye on the pre moon landing Omega Speedmaster which is around your budget.
  14. I regularly get 400-450 miles to a tank if I drive it down to empty, though that's 99% motorway at whatever speed everything else in lane 3 is doing with the Cruise Control on. I kinda wanna behave and do a 500 mile tank so I can say I've done it, but god it'd be boring! :-/
  15. The 350z and the Motorcyclist that follow - both bonkers imho. I hope somebody winds them in before they kill somebody. Or before they kill themselves and some other poor person has to scrape them off the floor.
  16. Yeah, all set up no problem at all... good bit of kit and even 1080 content looks much better than it did on my old TV.
  17. I bought the outgoing TV in 2004/2005 - it has had a good run, if not quite as long as yours did!
