Yeah, but GM, I refer you to online sources that can be changed by anyone at any time. Ergo I'm rightest. -
Yeah, I wouldn't bother trying to use it out in the open, to be honest. Although to be fair that would be based on it being an aerosol as it'd go everywhere (more so than in an enclosed space). I'm sure the PB blurb is up to their usual standard, however it should be noted that the Cancoat blurb hasn't been changed at all (barring the last sentence about the contents of the kit) for the new version. I'll be purchasing the new version at some point, so I can/will confirm the actual delivery system when I've got it in my hands.
-
The more I think about it, the more I think that it wasn't so much a PITA to apply as it was just a "not ideal" delivery method. Although that might just be me not remembering properly. Absolutely worth it for me though. It really has proven itself to be an apply and forget thing. Hopefully the new delivery system is better, although they do appear to acknowledge that the can takes a bit of maintenance by including multiple heads... but at least they do provide multiple heads! Don't believe the adverts, the darkside have no cookies! We do have some shiny cars though.

Hopefully they'll actually manage to agree on something else (anything else will do!) before the next race. They may as well have the drivers play tiddlywinks to determine the grid rather than this format. It'd probably be more exciting.

I'm going to bump this thread now for several reasons. First and foremost, I'm bored and have nothing better to do that I can be arsed to actually do. Also the thread appears to have been relegated to page 2.. it's almost as if I haven't posted here for 3 months! But also because; it's spring, which can only mean a post winter detail is in order... soon. I.e. when I have the time. Whilst that happens, I need to formulate the plan. In the mean time I thought it was a reasonable time for a Cancoat update. Cancoat was applied 5 months ago. On not-entirely-well-much-less-perfectly prepared paint. Except for the small area of the rear bumper that was polished. In that time it has been washed once. Yes, that says once. And that was at Christmas, so a little over 3 months ago. Since then, the closest it's been to being "washed" is some rain. It's not been topped up. It's not had so much as a QD touch it since it was applied. Even the shampoo I used to wash it at Christmas was a pure shampoo, so this is a pure a test of Cancoat's real-world durability as you're likely to see. So how is it holding up I hear no one ask. Well let me tell you (un/fortunately there's no pictures this time, but there will be plenty in a couple of weeks before it's actually stripped off). So to set the scene, the car is parked outside 24/7. When it is driven, it's driven on a mixture of motorways, A roads, B roads and through towns (or in other words, both busy and quiet roads, both cleaner and absolutely filthy tarmac) and it's covered probably around about 3,000 miles, ish, in all weather since early November (except snow. I don't recall any snow this year). I don't know about you, but I'd expect the car to be absolutely filthy as a result of this. Whilst it isn't quite as clean as it was, it's by no means filthy. In fact truth be told it's barely dirty. A (small) number of birds have been using the car as target practice, because hey what else are you going to do to occupy yourself if you're bird?! Well I opted to take the risk of doing absolutely nothing about this when they did hit their mark. Some were left for several days, but all have been washed away from the paint with nothing more than rainfall and whilst I've not done a thorough inspection with a proper light (but I have looked in direct sunlight) there doesn't appear to be any residual marring at all. The bird that hit windscreen has been more difficult to remove though, even with screenwash and windscreen wipers... the windscreen has G1 on, by the way. So to say I'm suitably impressed by it's claimed "self cleaning" abilities would be an understatement. Obviously the most importantist thing of evar is the beading. Well the beading isn't quite as strong as it was when it was clean but even after 3 months since it's last wash, it's still putting the other cars along the street to shame. I've actually seen worse beading from a certain manufacturer showing off how awesome their products bead on their social media accounts. Anyway, to summarise, whilst Cancoat was a bit of a phallys to apply accurately, once it's on it's pretty damn good. So it's probably good news then that Gyeon have now moved to a "pump action" spray head now. Or rather, two of them that now come as part of the "kit". Unfortunately I have no idea how this new system works as even Gyeon's own demo video is using the old aerosol can, so until I try it I can't even suggest whether it's an improvement or not. However you may have noticed I said "until" and not "if" I try it, that's because I'm pretty sure this is likely to become my go to winter protection product from now on. I can't give it a much better endorsement than that I don't think. So yeah, it's impressed me. A lot. And to celebrate that, have a(n old) picture if it in action. Now I just need to decide what to put on the car for summer....

Just stop using the forum. Fixed. -
That's your problem then I suspect - I make that a diameter difference of about 5% compared to the standard ~2.5%. That new difference is triggering the traction control because your car assumes the speed difference front-to-rear is you getting it all sorts of wrong and thus cutting the power. Fit the appropriate size wheels/tyres at both ends of the car and it should be fixed.
-
Did you change the fronts as well or just the rears?
-
I hope it's not too bad and relatively stress-free to repair, Dan. On the bright side at least you fixed that washer jet first.
-
Stop it. I really need something with a bit more space rather than a bit less (for now). But I really do need something Elise based in my life... Heart says yes, head says no. So stop it. Obviously send over the details, but stop it. Please.
-
Makes it almost look scripted...
-
Not yet, that's already on the shortlist so I'm doing the potential maybes first.
-
Yep, afraid so Stu.

I've been looking for one already 'charged, largely because I really can't be arsed to do it myself. In other news, the Megane and TT are out. The TT bored me to death on the (admittedly short) drive I had in it. The Megane was entertaining enough but just didn't leave me with that "I must have it" feeling. The 135i is still being considered
-
Not tried any fallout remover on the wheels then?
-
Technically they should inform their insurers of any accident. However doing that will mean a raise in premiums even if they end up not claiming at all, because insurance. If they can avoid it, settle privately and don't involve insurers. If going through the insurance, inform your own insurers, pass on the third party's details and let them do what you pay them for.
-
Looks like they'd benefit from a polish, particularly where the sealant/glue sat. That should get rid of the paint transfer too. Don't forget to re-seal them afterwards though.
-
Investigated, not considered... I don't find them offensive (unless like the E46... I still don't know why), but I've not given them a second look in their entire existence. That could be down to more than the usual BMW camouflage-of-bland though.
-
Also, thanks all for the input so far.

I wasn't a fan of the Leon - largely due to the driving position, I think, but it's not for me. Megane & Brera I would have to drive, but I'll keep them in mind. 135i is being investigated too and probably more likely than the Megane/Brera tbh. VX220 is still very much on my list, along with the Elise and this; Is definitely worth knowing, cheers. Less space than the Z isn't ideal, but I could always work around that... somehow. The Elise is something I've wanted for a while, so it will happen one day but the head may have to prevail... for now. Possibly. It might not. TT added to the "to test drive" list. I've been looking at these actually. No good ones for £12k though. My concern with the Toyobaru is that it may feel a little underpowered, as fun as it may be in the corners, after the Z. I appreciate the Z isn't all that in standard guise, but again it's something I'd have to drive before ruling it in or out. I know what you mean about the interior of the Monaro, it is a bit... Vauxhall . VXR8 would be more than acceptable for me, but for the price tag. Sadly. Considered the 6 series, but seeing what Dan has upgraded on his already it might be a little bit more of an investment than I'm willing to spend at the moment with similar upgrades (M badges and Grundy's ironing board bolted to the boot aside). R32 Golf is a possibility. MPS and Leon, as above, just don't do anything for me. Looking at my list of potentials, it may be an WWD thing. Maybe in a couple more decades. They are great cars, and I have previously enjoyed driving the S2000, but I just don't think I could live with one unless it was a 2nd car.
-
Finally, something you've said that I can agree with. I thought I'd precluded any EV's with the 250+ mile range stipulation. However for clarity; Any EV is a flat out no. For the other suggestions; RX-8 - considered these before the Z, not a fan of having to ring it's neck to get anything out of the engine. Also applies to anything with VTEC yo! Impreza - been there, done that. But you're on the right lines there, Dan. M3 - Not a fan of the E46. Don't know why, never driven one, but I'd just be disappointed if I saw that on the drive every day tbh. Cayman - definite contender there. My other thoughts at the moment are Monaro, and something Lotus Elise based (and a train ticket for the long journeys ).

A Tesla for £12k? As if Elon would ever let his not-yet-invented-but-widely-promised-to-revolutionise-the-galaxy-tech fall to such obtainable levels...
-
Yep, it's another one of those hypothetical "what car" threads... and I'm not even sorry. So; Up to £12,000 to spend (could be a little flexible but not by a huge amount). Ideally reliable - it would spend most of the week sat gathering dust to be used for fun on a weekend, trips to the shops and infrequent long journeys, so; Must be fun on what passes for roads down south, but also be comfortable for 250+ mile runs a dozen times a year. Preferably wouldn't cost more than a Z to run/maintain. Ideally no less practical (in terms of usable space) than a Z. Definitely something that doesn't need a million (or even half a dozen) modifications to make it any good. What have you got for me then?
