  1. I've tried new gas struts, new springs and pennies. I still have to press and pull the boot to get it past te catch. Perhaps I should lube the boot hinges next.
  2. I have switched to rotary. Much faster to complete a job than with a DA. The trick is to keep moving at all times and never stay in one place. I'll never use a DA again and wished I hadn't listened to all the scaremongering in the first place.
  3. In terms of materials it might not be a lot but then you have tooling costs, labour, overheads and so on. As the phrase goes... we've all got to eat.
  4. I think the app from PocketGPSWorld is cheaper than that per year. Sounds similar in that the database is updated by users of the system. There is an iPhone and Android app I think. Yes it does, but only via installed maps. I think it's £35 per year for updated maps. I've not updated mine, but will do probably next year.
  5. Have to agree with this. I too am rescue diver trained which goes far beyond basic first aid and CPR including scene of accident management. I too have managed an RTA scene and whilst there were plenty of people around they needed managing to prevent more harm. No one had called an ambulance. No one realises that you need one ambulance per patient. No one thinks to call the police to manage the traffic and control the scene. No one thinks to request a fire appliance to cut someone out of a car who may have spinal injuries. Getting this all done early saves valuable time and saves lives. Don't wait for the ambulance crew to turn up and do it all. Better to call them all then just the one. I had to stop one chap from yanking one the door frame to try to pull the driver out of the car who was quite calm but clearly in shock and was best left in place but with someone providing reassurance that help was on the way. I also had a colleague direct traffic away and another call the ambulance etc whilst a pet shop owner brought out first aid kit and attended to the passenger who had collapsed half way out of the door screaming for her child who was on the back seat quite well but no belt etc! Another colleague was first aid trained for work just turned around and went back to work. Goodness knows how she would cope with an accident in the office! It was great experience for me and the one thing it showed was that whilst people may well be shown to be attending to the accident, on the whole they haven't a clue what they are doing and are either causing more harm than good or delaying important first aid which includes calling for help. You don't need to be a scuba diver to do the PADI emergency first responder course and it only takes a day or two half days to do. A33 - which part? I drive Wellington monument to Chineham everyday since June this year.
  6. I'm intrigued as to how trying another dealership would help? Surely part of the details passed on to Nissan warranty would be your VIN number? Unless you think another dealer would be more inclined to fight your corner more strongly.
  7. Just to explore this further... you are allowed to drive the vehicle to get it repaired or to a retest providing you have an appointment. It doubt that driving other than direct to either venues would be seen favourably by the law. I also doubt that you would be given a seven day wonder as the vehicle has failed an MOT, is on the MOT database and thus they know that you already know that the vehicle, in the eyes of the law, is not road worthy. You are more likely to have the vehicle confiscated, etc etc. Also your insurance is invalid. If you have an accident you are screwed. Go past any jam sandwiches and you are likely to be stopped immediately due to the use of ANPR cameras. It's just not worth it IMHO.
  8. Slight problem with that in that the car doesn't have a valid MOT certificate.
  9. Security layout at T5 is an arse especially when busy. Oh and you can forget fast track when they are busy!
  10. The best part about DIY car servicing in the winter is..... you don't feel the pain when you graze your knuckles as it is too cold!
  11. Wow! That was expensive! Perhaps it was the amount of work they thought was necessary due to the corrosion?
  12. The Wheel Specialist will powder coat all four wheels in one day. Drive in first thing in the morning, drive home at the end of the day. http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/ There should be a branch near you: http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/locations/birmingham/ Jim
  13. More pennies did the trick. I've got six each side! New set on order from Alex as well.

    oil fill?

You may find it easier to check the oil from the flip side of the dip stick rather than the side with the H/L markings.
  15. Just fitted a new uprated set from SGS. Boot still won't open past the lock without help. But once open and with a little help, it will then open of its own accord all the way up. I now imagine that the counter weight (that I removed) will balance the boot better so that it can close with ease. I suspect the the reason the boot won;t open past the lock is not due to the gas struts but due to the two springs. Probably need a new set that will push the boot open quicker. I've tried the penny trick with no joy.
  16. Do you have accidental damage insurance? If so, you could potentially claim for a new lens and UV filter.
  17. OP said : "Should I be jacking one side of the car and securing with a stand and then doing the same for the other side?" Jack up one side and put an axle stand under car. This raises the car to quite a high angle already on one side. Then you go to the other side and start jacking up. This raise the front wheel with the opposite rear wheel already in the air. Now you have one wheel on the ground (rear one opposite to axle stand) and the car pivoting in the axle stand. Recipe for disaster. Hence either use ramps or raise front or rear in one go, not one side at a time.
  18. I have also just re-read the OP. Sloping drive! Yikes. Not sure I would like to mess about raising a car up on a slope and then work under it. So in the garage it is for you with axle stands and jack in from the front with car on planks.
  19. You doing it wrong then. My car is lowered yet I can still get the trolley jack in the back to jack up both rears at the same time. Front wheels are chocked and I have never had any problems. You didn't read the first line of my post correctly or the first post in the thread. Unless your Z has a rear mounted engine or oil filter repositioned in the back of the car, go directly to jail, do not pass go and do not collect £200.
  20. Unless you need the wheels off obviously. That's what stands are for, but if you don't know how to do it safely, then best left to someone who does. I've had no problems in 30 years and don't have to go from planks to ramps to jack to stands, just to lift the front. I can just crack on without having to start and move the car or even open the garage door. I'm not knocking it, at the end of the day you should go with what works for you as long as it's safe. The worst one's are the guy's who post pictures up clearly working under an arch with the sissor jack supporting the car. They'll spend hundreds on new bits and pieces but won't spend another £30 on a basic trolley jack and a couple of stands. I agree. If you need the wheels off then use axel stands. I do too. Daft to do it otherwise.
  21. How about fitting the new iPad mini in there...
  22. It's odd because some topics are ok and some are not. This one is not ok: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/54164-my-350z-sorry-lads-its-standard/ But this one is: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/64991-new-and-saying-hello/
