  1. Mine was slightly different again. Following advice from Chris'I and above, no facility to 'untick' preserve favourites, so had to delete directly from favourites list then re-start. All good again and saved in favourites again with no further problems.
  2. Handbook specifies 6 to 7 clicks as being in the normal range. Pulling force 196 N.
  3. When you used to junk your plugs every 6K miles this wasn't a problem. But with new generation plugs that stay in the head for 5 years or so and however many thousands of miles, there have been instances of seized threads and plugs breaking, which is obviously not recommended. I guess your choice is between the suggested risks that Jim has highlighted and the chance of a seized plug. Personally, these days I go for the light smear of copperslip, with no ill effects to date.
  4. From my experience, I noticed that a lot of the specialist dealers don't actually own the plates they advertise, they just know that they are available. If you see one you like it's always worth checking whether it's available through the DVLA which tends to be the cheapest source. Dealers will just mark it up to make a profit, which is fair enough, but worth checking anyway.
  5. Yeah, square number plates, no steering wheel controls or headlight washers would suggest import. And no shot of the back where it might say 'Fairlady Z'. I have seen the wheels on a few later cars when I was looking, don't think they were all on imports but not sure. Think they may have featured on some U.K spec last of the 350's. If you are O.K with an import then must be worth a look, but I don't know what their comparative values are.
  6. I paid that for mine a year ago when it only had 2.5K on it, basically it's like a new car. You need to walk away Peter, something else will always come along. Chances are you will see that one up for 15.5K in a months time when they can't shift it. That's the sort of mileage that should see a couple of new tyres on the rear, otherwise you will shortly be adding another £400 to the price. What was wrong with the other one you went to see for around 15K that you mentioned in your first post without the camera/stereo? Best of luck.
  7. Nothing to do with getting in or out in my case. Rounded closed key fob is more pocket friendly, and up to date.
  8. Some folk have changed bonnets. Only sure way to tell is if it has the duel intake engine underneath and redlines 500rpm higher than previous models @7500 on the dial. I'm sure it's fine, but you wouldn't want to get home and find out otherwise!
  9. The reason you often see two different figures is because Nissan quote the power in metric (313 P.S) used on the continent. British figure is quoted as bhp which is a shade under 309. It's the same figure expressed in a different unit. You say you have an HR, (twin air intakes, bonnet bulge) so the car is 313P.S or 309BHP depending on which figure you prefer. Obviously dealers and folk selling cars tend to quote the P.S figure as it 'appears' to be higher. Whether the car has been tested in a review and found to be 'only' 306 is unlikely, probably just lazy research or confusion between units of measurement.
  10. When driving, yes. Until it's warmed up properly. Not at tickover. It's not a choice of exhaust or engine, it's well known that short, stop start journeys will rot an exhaust, also that cold starts are when the majority of engine wear occurs. The choice was between disconnecting the battery, job done, or multiple cold starts for no good reason other than to charge the battery. I'd prefer to protect both my engine and exhaust....and my battery.
  11. You tend to go somewhere every time you start your car up which warms it up properly. Sitting on a driveway ticking over for half an hour trying to warm it up, or worse still revving it from cold is just generally not a good idea. Condensation in the exhaust etc, etc. Even most handbooks will tell you to start the car and drive away, not to leave it ticking over from cold. IIRC the Z book says wait for 30 seconds (presumably to let the oil circulate and come up to pressure) then drive. Not saying it will kill the engine or anything, just not something that is recommended. As for the other things, agreed, not really necessary for a short term lay-up. But batteries can cause problems with drains from alarms and clocks etc, it's why airport car parks have jump start facilities on hand, and that is just after a week or two. Anyway, I think the jobs done now. Like Gort said, he's just done the battery so good to go when he gets back.
  12. Definitely not a good idea, multiple cold starts, loads of wear and tear for nothing. Seems like more mucking about than removing one lead to do the job properly.
  13. Should be fine. Assuming the battery is in good condition and hasn't lost all it's juice (which is why you disconnected it, to stop any drains). Otherwise give it a charge first. Key should be fine also. I have put key batteries back in my spare after six months and it was all good.
  14. Had to take the other halfs lease car there as they have the tyre contract. Two tyres: "no problem, be about an hour". Returned in an hour "still waiting for approval from Leaseplan". Sat down, ten minutes later, all done. Got home, checked pressures and bolt torques, discovered that they hadn't been balanced. One way of making up time I suppose. I wouldn't trust them with a roller skate, certainly wouldn't go anywhere near them with anything I owned.

  16. He'd be right. Make sure the lead can't creep back towards the post to make contact again. i.e. tie it back properly. Don't forget as mentioned above, that the autodrop on the windows will be inoperative with the battery disconnected, so don't go opening/slamming the doors. Also good point about the handbrake, try not to leave it on for that amount of time if you can avoid it. Tyres will be fine though, just make sure they are at the correct pressures (or higher would help, but don't forget to adjust them before driving again!). Have a good trip.

I'd be worried about getting sufficient airflow through anything like that for cooling purposes, and to the engine air intakes. Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder.
  18. I have had two new Alfas in recent years with no problems whatsoever. Most modern cars are much of a muchness, eg. electronics were Bosch, but get a breakdown and it's all 'typical Italian electrics'. It takes decades for people with no experience to drop the cliches. Lets face it, the majority tend not to make a big fuss about how well their cars are working, you just get the horror stories, which you can find on any marque forum (did anyone mention Jaguar on here, for example). Dealers are dealers, that's a U.K problem not a marque problem. Let's face it, you'd be driving a Vauxhall on a Fiat platform. Perhaps that's why they've lost some of their edge, more reliable all round. I'd approach it the same as you would buying any other car and forget the outdated stereotypes. and when it breaks down, you aint seen me, right?
  19. NO!! Always remove negative earth lead first, re-attach last.
  20. Repeated Christmas day, BBC2 18:55--20:00. If my f*%ing machine recorded when it was suposed to I wouldn't know that.......
  21. Yes it is. I checked their feedback and the odds are fairly good, but you should take it for what it is: a cheap bit of electronic tat from Hong Kong. At the end of the day you're risking less than a fiver. They seem to be selling vast quantities of stuff and most people are happy, it is unlikely that they would deliberately stitch up a handful of people, more likely with the volume and distance that some does actually get 'lost' in the post (nicked in Hong Kong ). As has been said before, buy a good quality memory card (I bought a 4gb 'Transcend' from ebay for under ten) and don't over charge the battery. Incidently, Screwfix are selling these now, with a card, look absolutely identical, for around £70 iirc. Probably a better guarantee though! Does look like some people are waiting weeks for stuff, so don't expect it before Christmas if you need it. Good luck.
  22. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Mini-Car-Key- ... 4aa61dfd52 Try that one. Mine worked fine. Don't expect it any time soon though at this time of year.
