A new 350z'er in Surrey!
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to Richesio's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Hi, yes I replied this morning on here. Did you ring and speak to Scott? I live in Reigate as well near to South Park. Where are you in Reigate? Welcome to the forum. -
Hi, yes we can sort a oil change no problem. We use Millers oil which is very good. We are not lovers of moly slip as the synchro's use friction to work properly if you add the moly slip this can undermine the works of the synchro. Feel free to give us a ring @ Abbey to discuss further. Number below Thanks

The reason to use a fuel return system to keep the differential fuel pressure the same once the car is on boost. Base fuel pressure is around 50/52psi on the stock 370Z with a dead end fuel system as fitted as stock. Once you add FI when the car is running boost the boost pressure lowers the fuel pressure i.e if the car was running 11psi of boost the fuel pressure would then run at 40psi this can cause issues with atomisation of the fuel through the injectors. Running a fuel return system allows the fuel pressure to remain the same as the rising rate fuel pressure regulator adds fuel pressure in relation to boost pressure. The more boost you run the better it is to go to rising rate fuel return system as more boost pressure lowers the base fuel pressure. You can tune a FI car without a fuel return system the fuel calibration map looks funny as you need more injector duty cycle at high rpm/load as the fuel pressure isn't increased with boost pressure. EcuTek and Uprev will tune the car fine I feel with both the dead end fuel rail and rising rate fuel return system Ecutek does a few different things than the Uprev but they both retune the stock ecu to run FI. Hope this helps -
There are other software tuners that can generic reflash the Zed ECU. They can also turn off DTC codes but normally the tunes have to be sent from the software main office. The Uprev can be tune lived or via logging and tuning (early 278BHP UK cars only) while on the dyno the ability to tweak without waiting as well and the ability to remove the license and tune if needed. We can even tune via E tuning if needed , this will require the car on a dyno (or road logs) and a Uprev Standard car/license to be purchased. I am still looking at travelling to Scotland to tune cars just need to get some definite dates and booking sorted. thanks

They are certificated just looked at my car. The plates need welding in under the car line all proper approved cages. The through dash Cusco cages work real well far better than the dash dodgers cages that I know are certificated as the way the front legs bend around the dash make a weak point. In a ideal world if I was building a full race car I would have a weld in cage but the Cusco cage fits lovely I did spend time cutting all the interior trims around the cage and does the job we need a a track car for my wife to use and me to occasionally have a drive. Will get some prices next week. Thanks

This cage is far better than a lot of the cages in the BDC. I will have a look at the cage in the car next week for the Certificate Number on the cage. It is funny the mild steel cage in my car has the top seat belt fixing tied into the cage with a built in mounting point and door bars where as the Chromoly version that we are fitting to another 350Z track car doesn't have door bars nor the mounting point. If you need any help with your 350Z with regards set up/tuning give me a PM would be good to see another Zed in the BDC Steve

Ben, Sorry I need to answer your PM. We have fitted a couple of Cusco cages that fit very nice , the cage in my Trackday car as per the below link, has door bars fitted and the stock door cards still fit nicely, the roll cage goes down the back of the stock dash , it does require some work to make it fit nicely but it looks lovely. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/91461-abbey-motorsport-350ztrack-project/ I can supply.

Strange that it smoked after you changed the oil. Also strange your now saying it has not used any oil but has been smoking heavily.
-
Presume it needs to be at running temp before it smokes? Does it smoke all the time even at idle?
-
That's on the passengers side not the drivers side as per the picture posted
-
Ewen is correct we have fitted a lot of sets of Whiteline Drop links without any hassle. Can you answer a question for me Octet, why has the user had to space out the retaining nut with all the mild steel washers? Thanks

Car has 600cc injectors fitted. It was a kit we stripped from a Car returning it to a more stock NA set up for insurance reasons.

Fuel rails pg27! - Mouthwash's SSSB
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to mouthwash's topic in Member Build Projects
Rubbing on the ARB? You may need to hear the exhaust and adjust it using a hammer. Give us a ring should be able to for you in @ short notice. -
Torx bit us the way forward. Trouble with Allen keys is the wear out and people don't notice. Also if the SC unit was warm the dipstick will come undone easier your find.
-
It will just be the rear O2 sensor reading that the exhaust gas hasnt been cleaned by the Cat it wont make your car drive any differently. When we Uprev we can turn of the DTC code that causes the CEL to illuminate. Tuning a HR with de-cats and a good exhaust sytem will find around 15bhp from a stock car and far better midrange torque and better throttle response. Abbey cost is £402-00 inc vat You can clear the ECU codes normally by disconnecting the battery

The cranks grind okay , just need to check the crank is straight before grinding ( sometime a knocking big end will cause a the crank to be bent) Bearings stock or undersize easily supplied; Stock gasket set/head bolts easily supplied. I do seem to remember you was going to have Octets S/H motor from his 370Z thou as I offered you a brand new 370Z short motor before that we did have in stock.
-
Sorry yes only the front part of the front cover. Also the air con rad will need removing. We just drop the motors out the bottom on the subframe with the gearbox still attached. What ever way you go good luck.
-
Stock cat will catch and burn the oil smoke off. Decatted exhaust lets the oil smoke through and out off the tailpipes.
-
To get the cams out is a front cover (complete, front and rear parts) then remove the 3 cam chains off before you can take the cams out. It isn't a nice motor to strip especially with it in situ in the car.
-
I understand your thoughts. But every smoke VQ we have stripped had worn out oil control rings. The cylinder heads when stripped the inlet valves where perfectly clean no oil continuation at all. Compression test will show up good as well. I just think if you pull the heads off it is an easier job with the motor out you might as well strip it fully. The Rev Up motor had a recall for oil usage Nissan had changed supplier of Pistons rings for the Rev Up motor on the recall they changed the Pistons ring set. Thanks
-
Why are you thinkng of changing the valve stem seals? Using oil I presume? Are you sure it is the valve stem seals? The VQ suffer from the oil control rings loosing there tension so the car starts to use oil. If the car is running cats you won't get any blue smoke from the exhaust. Running decats your get smoke. Trying to help you out to save you wasting money and time from our experience.

Send me a PM I will give you my mobile number to make it easier for us to chat about your issues. Thanks

There is no clutch parts on the NS (passengers side) for the clutch system on the HR.(unless you have a LHD car) I would say the clutch system just needs bleeding properly. I presume you have a Xtreme clutch system. Ewen , I am happy to help the customer out if needed.
