You see this thread is a case in point - we can have a serious discussion about the changing demographic of a club interspersed with banter/humor as above In short (I know thats unusual for me)... The only way a club can avoid a changing demographic is by constantly moving the clubs focus onto the latest model, and only those who can afford the price tag may enter... In which case you may as well create "Nissan enthusiasts that bought the car when it was more than £xxxxx .com", and pick an arbitrary value. If a club is not prepared to accept and work with a changing demographic, then it is doomed to failure.

I would agree that there has certainly been a shift in the make up of the forums over time. The 350Z has for some been a car to aspire to, and for many that aspiration is now a very real posibility. The demographic will change as time goes on, and although our club has changed along with it, I would hope we have avoided becoming a "chav" establishment. The joint ventures we have with the Z club and hopefully the growing of joint events with the GTR OC will continue to demonstrate that the club is not like any "cruize" site. The nature of this thread in contrast with another shows that the having a community take one direction or another is very difficult to do whilst pleasing the majority. We can either try to enforce a "standard" of what we expect here, with the emphasis toward the serious chatter about the 350/370 or we can welcome any "dat waz wikid innit" style postings, which would drive away those with the more in depth knowledge of the car. Trying to maintain a happy medium is therefore always going to be difficult. Take the show cage thread for example - there are many that ridicule the thought, and perhaps consider it "chavvy", though we also have those who feel agreived that the individual trying something new is being subject to ridicule for the idea. This transition and change in ownership will come to all cars, it has come to all zeds in time, and will be no different for the 370 or indeed the GTR. The ownership base will change there too. Whilst we have begun to cater for the 370, unless we constantly move the clubs focus to the newest model, this change in demographic will alwyas be here to stay. Its not the clubs job to try and avoid the change in demographic like King Canute forbiding the tide to come in, it is our job to adapt the club so this new membership base can be welcomed whilst not displacing those already here. Thats the tricky bit. Hopefully we are doing an OK job of it, and we can provide a welcome site for those who want the serious in depth chatter and also those who enjoy the light hearted banter too. As people may have noticed, we like to make changes here based on feedback from members - if people think that the additions of various items, sections or features can improve our community, we always like to hear them and on many occasions we can get these built into our online presence fair quickly (unless they are major pieces of work with the software). Any ideas on organising of meets or regional events which get new owners talking to long term owners are also welcomed. Thats my 2p anyway

I believe it is BW9 for midnight Blue... Though what is the colour code on the chassis number? Also, what does Stanski's say?

Its on the to do list to fix this, but its not been high on the priorities as there have been other items to fix and improve prior to this. I think this was due to its lack of use and resource hungry nature. With the server move the resource issue was resolved, but the software didnt take kindly to a direct move to new database and forum software versions. This software will either be updated to work with the new forum or a new solution found, its just gouing to take a bit of time

They look a bit like the GT4 rims with an added lip on each spoke. I think they look quite good.

I actually like the idea of automatic lifting to get over ramps/humps that can be found on the way to some show stands. Not that mine is anywhere near as low as say craigs for example, but I think it could still be useful. I would want the switches on a box behind the passenger seat or perhaps even remotely controled - not an awful addition to the centre console.

Have done a lot of reading of the sale of goods act recently myself. Consumer Direct are correct, in that the purchase of a new item entitles you to goods which are fit for purpose and also free from defect. They (the seller) has the option to refund, replace or repair the goods to a standard that meets with your satisfaction. You will have to write a letter, I would also put in acompanying photographs of the item, and also ask the people at trading standards (Consumer Direct) if they have an address you can send a copy to with your case number quoted at Consumer Direct. When you send the letter, ensure that you point out at the start that a copy of the correspondence has also been sent to Consumer Direct. The retailer will then know you arent going to be dicked about, and you have copied in trading standards. You may find that when they know they are not dealing with some mug, you will get a new fire. You may also find that they will stick to their guns and advise that in their contract of sale you agreed to a 14 day return period blah blah blah. Regardless of this, their sale agreement cannot overide the sale of goods act. If the goods are faulty, they are faulty, regardless of whether you unwrapped the item the day you got it, or anytime up to six months after the purchase. Get a letter written, pop photos of the damage in and send it to the company and trading standards.

If you sand the LEDs lightly with some fine wet and dry, that should disperse the light rather then causing it to be directional shouldnt it ?

What makes me laugh is Button goes on to say that his move to McLaren, if it come off, is not all about the money, but that he feels McLaren may have a better car in the 2010 season. So his asking for a pay rise has absolutely nothing to do with Mercedes decision not to renew his drive with them... If you are securing a £3.5m pay rise for moving teams, at least have the honesty to state thats why you are moving and not spout a load of crap about how much better the chances are by driving for one particular team. Pay me £1m a year and Ill have a go in a pedal powered go-kart made of horse hair and cow @*!#. Interesting that Raikonen may find himself without a seat too - nothing to do with him looking to renew at somewhere near his £30m pay deal either then... Dont get me wrong, some of these drivers are worth their money, or at least the teams can get the money back through sticking their names to various sponsorship deals etc, but others need to adjust their valuations if they want to secure a drive. It will certainly be interesting to see what the future brings and where Mclarn will be at when their engine partner deal runs out come 2015

I think there has been a lot of scare stories put around about the GTR and there has certainly been a fair bit of speculation as to various costs involved for various parts. The launch control debacle was certainly well publicised and an awful lot of figures were put around. I think until there are some real world uk examples of exactly how high these costs are then we cant speculate, but it does seem on the base of this simple bump that repair costs are very high in certain cases. That would not lead me to think the servicing costs and charges for worn gearboxes etc would be any less pricey.

One of these was ceratinly on my shortlist when it comes to buying a "fun" car, but with stories like this it certainly starts to look less appealing. That said, if you crack the bumper of a Fezza or Lamborghini, it aint going to be cheap. Its the fact it appears you simply cant reset these systems which seems very strange (and indeed expensive). If it is covered by insurance, its not the end of the world - however it wont take long for insurance companies to "adjust" their premiums based on the repair costs of these vehicles. Taking the initial purchase price into consideration the car starts to come scarily close, if not higher than the likes of the 911 turbo, F430 and Gallardo. I think its the movement of the cost onto running rather than initial outlay that is a worrying concept. That would dictate a point in time where the GTR becomes more expensive than other cars in its class, depending on how long you aim to keep the car would dictate whether it was worth it I suppose. A £55k car with an £11k fix, in one year is still cheaper than a £90k car with a £1k fix...

Bummer... Anyone care to hazzard a guess at another car which deploys this same pedestrian safety system which lifts the bonnet like that... Ill give you a clue - I dont fancy bumping my other car now...

Lets not resort to namecalling please. But I do think an explanation is needed. We grant trading permissions here with the expectation that a quality service will be provided to our members. Setting up a group buy and having people commit, then advising there is not enough stock to fulfill said group buy is not the sort of service we expect for our members here. Please contact a member of the team explaining what has happened to cause this, what is being done to rectify the situation and what steps will be/have been taken to prevent this happening again.

Cheeky sod. It took me ages to find a whippet with one gammy leg and a flat cap with a dodgy weave just to match the car.

As above, I think we cross posted - its not the dte causing the problem with the fuel gauge, its a problem with the fuel guage on its own. The dte is just flashing as it thinks you are out of fuel..
-
It sounds very much as if the problem is not with the multifunction causing the error on your fuel gauge it is the fuel gauge casuing the flashing error on the multifunction display. "dte" is distance to empty. So it sounds like there is a problem with the fuel level sensor, causing the fuel guage to read empty, and thus causing the multifunction to alert you to the fact your "dte" is zero.

Just thinking about this again, can we really say that "tuner" parts are really any better, or are we just going by the fact they have a badge on that they must be? Does the Varis Carbon bonnet comply with pedestrian safety legislation? As CF splinters whn it breaks is it safe to have as a bonnet? Does it withstand the operating temperatures of the underside of the bonnet? Do the Cusco or Summit braces meet any necessary specifications for the product? Did Greekmans DBA discs stand up to the wear and tear they would be expected to te for such a "prestigious" name? What about the polished plenums and throttle bodies- by definition they have had some of the material worn away to produce the polished fiish - are they now up to strength? Hows about the grounding kits sold by individuals, what warranty comes with those? Does the outer cver withstand temperatures that can be seen within an engine bay? What about the K1 and K2? Do they comply with emissions and noise regulations? Has anyone stopped to think about any of those products, or are they just purchased because a) several others alreay have, or it has a brand name on that is known? As long as scott obtains the necessary legal protection thathe fels necessary, and the product is proven, then I see no issue. Everyone has to start somewhere...
