Whats Martinmac doing with Gordon Brown in Belfast
Chesterfield replied to stanski's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Smashing him round the face with either one of those table lamps I hope. Saving the other one for Alistair Darling. -
Just returned from a month in Oz and Tas, feel free to mention the weather, it was great! I saw a few Z's around in Sydney, Brisbane and Palm Cove - didnt spot one in Tas though and never got any spotted cards on them either! Doh! Welcome to the club

It appears there may have been a power outage or router failure. Ive since rebooted the server now and it seems to have sorted things out, as it was running quite slowly since the downtime. Hopefully things are now resolved -

Have locked this for now on Mitz request - He is aware of the problem now and is looking to resolve ASAP, apoologies to anyone who may have been sent one of these spam emails. Advice is not to open or reply to any emails you are not expecting and which may contain headings associated with spam. One rectified this will be deleted.

You could use my Jag if you like? Oh I see now you said luxury. And I suppose on your wedding day you would like something you know will actually get you there. So on second thoughts dont bother with a Jag. Mine manages to ruin a Monday morning on the way to the office, hardly the most inspiring of days to start with, so I would hate for one to spoil your big day. Steer away from the Jaguars at all costs. One of my friends had a Chrysler 300C in silver. Admitedly its no Aston or Rolls, but it scrubbed up well and certainly didnt look out of place. Plenty of room in the back for a bride and her dress, which is one of the main points to consider too.

ill have a look to see if this can be added

I have them on mine - the low miles my car does means that the softer compound is not really that bigger issue for me. The difference in ride over the bridgestones (especially comparing wet performance) is great. At £92 delivered for the fronts thats a pretty good deal!

I do find it amazing that the DVLA can invest millions in camera systems, IT, databases, and staff to find vehicles that aren't paying tax, yet seem incapable of ensuring they charge the correct rates to those of us who are decent enough to pay our road tax in the first place...

WHERE DID THE SUCCESS OF MARRIAGE JOKE THREAD GO?
Chesterfield replied to Vik54's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Locked as suggested by Vik and others - hopefully the new search options will allow people to dip into the OT chat as much or as little as they want and make it easier for all -
Has anyone any experience of this? I am asking as a colleague in the office is looking to purchase a new car (they have actually done the deal) but does not want to take the dealer up on their offer of Gap insurance for £370 (the car is £12k). They believe there are better deals elsewhere, indeed internet quick quotes with some unknown companies woul suggest that the going rate would be around half this or less. Has anyone used any specific companies for Gap insurance? Has anyone had any need to claim and what was your experience? Any reviews good or bad appreciated!

Change to "view unread posts"
Chesterfield replied to Chesterfield's topic in Forum IT Issues & Bug Reporting
To advise, Im still working on changes to this, so the menu at the top may look strange for a while, Ill post up once its all done.. -
Hi, There has been a change made to the "view unread posts" search (top right of the forum). This will now display all unread posts except any that are in the "off topic" section. You can still catch up on the off topic section by going directly to it, or use the "view active topics" or "view new posts", which all contain any posts from the off topic area that are active in teh last x days (x being set by the user) or are new since your last visit (in the case of the "view new posts" search). It is just in the "view unread posts" search that the off topic posts will be hidden. So for those that want to skim over the majority of the off topic and have the 350/370 oriented posts displayed as a priority, this is the search for you. Hopefully this will help everyone

Is BM going too far in terms of bad taste?

Is BM going too far in terms of bad taste?
Chesterfield replied to BulletMagnet's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Not so - we do listen to all the members suggestions and comments on the sites direction etc - thats why we have the feedback area. I would agree that the forum has evolved into less a strict car oriented discussion group, now involving ever more "off topic" chat. Whilst we would not want to take away from the enjoyment many members get from this, we dont want that banter and off topic nature to overwhelm the club to such an extent that the 350 aspect becomes almost a sideline to the main event. With that in mind we are looking at ways that we can keep the off topic nature perhaps seperated from the main view of the forum, though not stifling it in any way as many people enjoy it. Perhaps limiting the "off topic" results in any searches for new posts, and having an option to include the off topic section in any "unread posts" results. This could either be toggled on or off by the individual user. Thats one proposed solution I have put forward, but if anyone else has any suggestions on how we can improve the site, please feel free to post up in the suggestions/feedback area -
Thats the funniest thing Ive seen in ages. What a plonker.

I remember clearly visiting the Aston dealership in Derby and noticing various "issues" that I would have expected not to see, especially in showroom cars. Carpets not fitting and exterior door trim hanging off was not a good impression in the show room. They do look nice though - but its kind of spoilt if you cant use the things.

Jay - do you want to buy a Jag? In the words of Tony the Tiger - They'rrrrre great

Playing FPS with a keyboard and mouse is just easy. What I mean is the aiming with a mouse is just as easy as moving a cursor around a screen, it changes the feel of the game for me. With a console it feels to me as if Im moving the character to do the aiming, with a mouse, its as though im just moving a cursor to do the aiming and the character just follows it. Hard to describe, but I feel the console FPS are just more involved. Plus you can escape an awful lot of the cheating I believe. On the console you may find people using glitches (just as they would on the PC), but you dont have this constant battle of patches verus mods for aimbots radar etc etc.. Also I tended to find on the PC (though its a few years since I played FPS on a PC) that the skill level was considerably higher. The games felt a lot more serious, on the xbox for example there is a larger variation of skillset meaning some games you have to knuckle down, and then occasionally you will get pitted against an opposition that frankly dont have a clue and you can tear them apart (even going for some of the fun acheivements). Although I would conceed that PC's are superior in terms of graphics, speed and with dedicated servers the quality of the connections and also size of games (not just restricted to 6 a side), I believe that the console offers a greater ammount of fun, which is my main requirement from whatever I choose to play games on. The P2P side of games connectivity is sadly going to be the way forward for PC's I think. It must be much more profitable to release a game and let the clients hardwar do the bulk of the work, using simple boxes for matchmaking rather than actual games processing. It would also help if BT dragged our network kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Though as we were pioneers with our twisted pair copper wiring we now pay the price as we need to replace millions of miles of the stuff to get fast connections (upload and download) to the majority of homes. Also the way BT wholesale charge for the use of the broadband network causes issues, as it forces ISP's to congest or "manage" their own network resulting in speeds lower than the network is already able to provide anyway.

Certanly something for us to discuss as a team, not sure on the technical side how this could work, but I think there may be some merit in the idea. If posts removed by users were hidden rather than deleted, then moderators could perhaps see what a particular advertiser may have chosen to remove from general public viewing on the thread and make a decision as to whether it is being "tided" or "whitewashed". Blog threads for builds etc is another way we may wish to look at going, where a single user can create a single "blog" whih would have a main thread which can only be added to by the "blogger" and a sub-thread which is for general comment. Again, no idea on the technical aspects of this, but it is certainly an idea. This may merege into the "garage" section that has been proposed and discussed previously.
