I didn't do either manoeuvre on my driving test, so can't see it's any great loss. They're replacing them with other more common manoeuvres instead, which makes sense.

When did you take your test Dan? The three point turn is neither here nor there for me but revesring around a corner does test spacial awareness, judgement and control at least.

I tell you what I would rather they spent some more time on is ensuring people use their indicators especially on roundabouts & when changing lanes.

 

Also some more emphasis on vehicle maintenance wouldn't hurt as the number of people I have seen driving lately with one light out or no lights etc is staggering.

I was pulled over last night be the local police due to my car showing as uninsured ( new reg had not updated on the system) he had a headlight out which i pointed out to him and was told it is not a big deal as the other side still worked

i then pointed out it would fail and MOT and that it is an offense Not to fix it he just told me to get on my way lol

I think the biggest thing missing from tests is "How to use a slip road"

Its unreal the amount of people that drive at 30 down a slip road onto a dual carriageway with cars doing 70.

Worse is the idiots that stop at the end waiting for a half mile gap before they pull out...

Its not only EXTREMELY annoying but bloody dangerous.

Not sure it makes all that much difference, as soon as you past your test who would carry out the same theories to reverse round a corner, three point turn, feeding the wheel etc

I had mummy and daddy drive me around until I was 20, even though they'd bought me a car for my 17th First test was just before I turned 21, second test in March the following year. I only drove that mk4 Escort for a month before I went and bought a brand new Focus instead!

having taught my son over the last 12months - they just don't look around them - just the bit straight in front

Why not go the whole 9 yards, and remove the drivers brain to let the car do the test?

Oh, some drivers have already had their brains removed.

Can't believe they would not teach road signs in favour of a sat nav. Granted, people have become reliant on sat navs these days, but you still need to know basic road safety first. They should teach map reading and Highway Code at school.

So yes they're CONSIDERING removing the three point turn (which I admit I'd like to see stay) and the reverse round a corner (who even does that?!), but instead they MAY put things in like reversing out of a bay (which would save all those scratches and dents you get in car parks) and rejoining the road (meaning you don't get someone pull out in front of you doing 20mph). Surely that is a good thing? Or do we really want the test to stay exactly the same without any thought to how driving is evolving over the years?

 

Nobody wanted the theory test when it came in, there were comments made about people then not really concentrating on the actual driving bit, but I think we can all agree that it's now a success in terms of driving education.
