Right I've been seeing a lot of these "crash for cash" stories lately and theres been a spate of car vandalism in the area recently so I'm thinking of getting a dash cam.

Can anyone recommend any good ones? Ideally would like one that records when the car is parked too, so powered not just by the ignition.

EDIT: Oh and don't want to spend a fortune on one ideally!

I can thoroughly recommend the NextBase 402G Professional dash cam.

It has high definition camera and GPS. It retails for around the £99 mark.

Great playback software, so you can replay your drive in the Zed and relive the journey!!

The picture quality is fantastic and has "lock" facility, to save recent footage, if you are unfortunate enough to be involved in any incident. It can also be used as a still camera.

It's small and discreet and tucks neatly behind the Zed's rear view mirror.

A good product!

It's also quite addictive to replayyour last drive, especially if its over empty B roads!!

Had mine 2 months now, with no problems.

It may not be suitable for long period, passive monitoring as it has a limited battery life.

Hope this helps.

have a look for the reviews and details 0801 or the new version - 0803

I've got the 0801 and its great, the 0803 is the new version and is even better... in no way does it break the bank either

Someone at work has just got a really cheap one for the van, it was about £20. It has a decent wide angle lens, 1080 recording and does photos. It doesnt have gps which is handy as he does sometimes push it all the way to 72mph ;)

My only worry is that leaving it in a vehicle leaves it obvious to criminals to steal it

Interested in this too... something that has been concerning me for a while.

same here, been waiting for them to come down in price a bit. My car isn't fast but having been at the front of a 6 car pile up, even though I was faultless it still took nearly a year to settle. The video footage would have speeded the whole process up hugely

Check out this thread I started on the Innovv, I think they have a slighlty newer model now but the one I bought is inexpensive, decent quality and simple to set up and use.

It's not hard wired up in my Zed as I intended to use it only for captruing track fun and road trips. It's just been 3000 miles around the southern US with me and never gives me any grief. I am now tempted to get a power magic so it's perma on and I can use the parking mode. The case gets warm, but it's not overheated as yet.

I like it because it has the features (1080p, decent low light quality, g-sensor) but it doesn't have GPS so there's less chance of it incriminating you if you happen to be near the speed limit when someone pulls out of that junction...

Check out https://dashcamtalk.com for some reviews of loads of cams

There's a battery protector here too with good English translation which "prevents terror against your vehicle"

That looks like a good quality camera, Stu. Looks like it can do good recordings, and will be good as a race cam too! :drive1 Thanks :)

No worries.

I've no doubt there are better units out there (also with 2 channels, 1 for a rear facing cam) but it's good value at the price. Make sure you read up on dashcamtalk about the battery discharge protection, you don't want to drain it.
