How many miles have you driven it in that time? Have you actually gotten any pleasure from the ownership experience in terms of driving, or is it just nice to look at? Last time I looked at buying one they were about £12k but that was a very long time ago . I dont see them ever coming down in value. All sorts of cars are going up in price, cars i never ever expected to be worth any money. Stuff like old XR3i`s, old RS Turbos. Cars which at one point id see advertised for a few hundred quid now being up for thousands. It depends on how desperately you want the cash really.. You mention you bought it as an investment, so you could either keep it as such, or take the cash you have in it now and invest it elsewhere. Depends on what return you see happening on that amount of money over the next few years. If its a toy you bought because you love driving it, then id keep it. A few years ago they were difficult to sell but now there are so few original, rot free ones left with those sort of miles I have had loads of people approach me about it without even putting it up for sale. I know they are only going up in value but it is an expensive hobby for a car you daren't ever get wet. I even have to plan days ahead for a dry day every year for the MOT so it is a pain in that respect. Tempted to just cash my chips, buy a much cheaper zed and put the rest away. 5 years of hoarding it is enough now, let someone else use her and get some fun. Speaking to the guy over the weekend so will let you know what I decide. Will put a photobucket link up of the Cossie tonight. We could run a poll, sell or hoard! If you got hit by a bus tomorrow and where laid up in hospital on your death bed I doubt you're going to be lying there thinking, "boy I'm glad I didn't drive that Cossie much and kept it nice & dry". More likely you'd be thinking "I wish I had driven that thing whilst I could" or "wish I'd have sold it and gotten something fun to enjoy whilst I could". Edit: spelling doh. Been doing my head in all day thinking about it, don't think these cars have peaked yet but maybe time to cash my chips and walk way, let someone else have the pleasure. coldel Posted September 6, 2014 Share Posted September 6, 2014 They are a dying breed but a historical highlight - if you can afford to get yourself a fun car to drive around in and keep it, then I would do that. Someone has to keep cars mint otherwise they rust and get scrapped and disappear. I know in years to come I would love to see the one of the ten Cossies still alive in the world and that car would be priceless. I get the 'if you got it drive it' but so far you have kept it as a keep sake and got your driving kicks elsewhere, so would continue doing that. I went to a B&B in Cornwall a few years back and the people that ran the chalets had a big shed full of racing memorabilia including the first Honda Civic Type R off the production line - turns out Honda had been hounding these people to buy the car offering with six figure sums - but they are waiting until retirement date and selling up for plenty more...it was breath-taking to see the car there like that! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
zeddy addict Posted September 28, 2014 Author Share Posted September 28, 2014 (edited) Oh well, after weeks of agony I decided to keep the Cossie. Every time I go and look at her, start her up and just drool over her I can't bring myself to let her go. Only one way these are going and that is up if they are pristine with full history and unrestored. She has an insurance agreed valuation and is tucked away in a heated unit with her coat on and a trickle charger. We shall see what happens in Spring and I may have a rethink then. She needs nothing doing to her and is paid for outright so I will just keep her for another 6 months and see what happens. Miss my 350z but will get another one day, the depreciation has made me think long and hard about getting another modern toy though.
