Darren350 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hey guys, I did want to lower my 2004 GT and get spacers fitted, but recently I've found myself rubbing my under carriage (Ooer Missus!) on every bump and hump going! 6 hours into ownership I ripped both exhaust flexis on the Y Pipe to shreds on the inlaws driveway, and my streets in the area have speed bumps every 30 yards. No matter how slow I glide over them I can still manage to scrape the car. So alas, the lowering isn't gonna happen, but the spacers are still definitely on my list. Peace out. Ekona Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 You sure the car isn't already lowered? No way should it be catching as standard. Quote
Flex Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Makes me think mine might be lowered too, its ok on lots of speed bumps, worse on some. Quote
madmikester Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 standard mine never scraped the rear from arch to ground is about 706mm and front is 683 mm on the front so you can see if has already been lowered hope this helps Quote
Darren350 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Thanks mate, will measure tomorrow and see what the deal is. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Quote
Payco Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Definitely wont scrape if its standard.Lowering mine next week to finish her look.. payco Quote
Panman Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Mine is on coilovers and had to raise 5mm. May not sound a lot but made a hell of a difference. Quote
Suits Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 ^^^^^ Sorry for going off topic but what wheels are they ?? Quote
pallett Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 My car is about as low as above, and i dont think i have scraped once over bumps, best way to take them i find is to just go really slow over the ones that are one solid bump for the whole road, or if its a split bump put your drivers wheels in the gap between the bumps and passenger wheels pretty central, obviously again taking it nice and slow. Quote
Ekona Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 If it's a split bump, you should always put one side of the car directly over the bump, suspension is designed to go up and down, if you straddle them they push your struts outwards which will ruin your alignment and ultimately start damaging things. It's a cumulative effect. I think that's what you're saying anyway Pallett, I tend to alternate wheels over the bumps round our way as there's enough room to do so Quote
Darren350 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 I'll start doing that as I've always straddled them evenly. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Quote
KyleR Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 As standard I never scraped over the long slopey ones, but ruined the flexies on the sausage ones. Now I'm lowered 30+mm with a V2 front, I avoid all speedbumps, but prior to the V2 it was fine on long sloped ones. Quote
Panman Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) ^^^^^ Sorry for going off topic but what wheels are they ?? Varrstoen 19" et12, fronts are 9.5 rears are 10.5 Edited February 10, 2014 by Panman 1 Quote
docwra Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 My front bumper will touch on some speedbumps but never get anything else unless its a vicious one, I reckon Ive got to be 40-45mm down on standard ........ Quote
StevoD Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 a bit of a trick of stanced/slammed cars is to go over a sleeping police man style one at an angle so one wheel is always on the hump Quote
WhackyWill Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Mine is standard but again I cannot lower it as London is speed hump city, I have already removed the under tray once on a speed bump, and don't get me started on potholes. 1 Quote

docwra Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 KW suspension + KW HLS = sorted More like = bankrupt The best affordable lift kit Ive seen is made by Stance Solutions, I considered it but decided to run a bit higher instead, I only really have problems with inclines and stuff Quote
JoshThePonce Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Mine was on 30mm eibachs with some very low sideskirts, i came across many a bum clenching situation... Quote
