UncleGraham Posted August 5, 2013 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Hi everyone Just a quick hello as I am looking at getting a 'weekend car' to enjoy life a little. I am looking at getting a 2004 ish car that I would be lucky to clock up 5k miles a year but my questions are; as a 27 year old, plenty of no claims - who do you think would be the best insurers? Typically the best deals tend to be away from the comparison sites but I would rather phone round 3 or 4 rather than 10 or 20 Is there anything particular that I should be looking for on a UK spec car? spursmaddave Posted August 5, 2013 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Insurance is strange on a Zed, really depends on your car history. If you have never had a car like a Zed then you can maybe expect to pay £1k easily which will drop a fair bit the 2nd year and again the 3rd year. If you have had cars like a Zed before then just ring around, some find the specialist insurers like Adrian Flux etc cheap some don't, mine was always Admiral for example..... Interesting what you say about the insurance, I am guessing you are young? My first year driving I was with Admiral and every year since then they have been more expensive. I have had quotes of just under £390 for the year which seemed ok but having never had a 2nd car (albeit I have a track day car that isn't road legal). Lots to read there on getting a good one Young . . yea, I am 5yrs old and Dave is 7yrs old . . oh you were not talking about mental age were you Well when I had my Zed my insurance was about £560 (fully comp + full business ) and I was 35 at the time. Young I wish Like I said it all depends on experience, my insurance was £600 first year but went down to less than £400 by the 4th year and that was with a large no blame claim too.... Just shop around at the end of the day insurance & tax are small fry compared to fuel & consumables you will need.... and thats before you start to get the modding bug.... There are also some good cashback deals available via Quidco that can sometimes tip the scales a little in your favour. Well worth taking a look. I also have a Zed for sale in the classifieds. Its a 2004 UK car. No mods apart from the aux cable to allow you to play your Ipod etc via the Bose stereo. That's a really good price considering you have no NCB to put on the car, who's that with if you don't mind me asking? I pay that for the MX5 shed for a year, albeit it's in track spec so all the mods covered, but even so it's worth significantly less than a 350Z! Check out Adrian Flux and SKY, they should sort you out and give you lots of options e.g. low annual mileage reduces premium, higher excess again lowers premium and he list goes on.
