    Golf R

I've ordered a m240i manual LCI for September, more everyday friendly than the Cayman I had before and more subtle looking than the M2 suits me. Got a great deal paying 32k with a few options. Plan is to fit a locking LSD and perhaps the Birds B2 suspension package. Tried a golf R and it very good, almost too good in some ways. Ultimately preferred the six pot engine and rear wheel drive with manual box, a combo that won't be around for long.
  2. I respectfully disagree with your disagreement The 2.9 hated to rev, never got any more exciting at the top end, no DFI, the only thing it had going for it was the removal of the IMS. I mean, the car as a whole is better with the PCM3 and the vastly-improved PASM (if optioned), but I found the engine to be very weak. Was yours a PDK or manual? The test car I had for a day was a manual, which maybe just didn't suit the lump. It's odd that you had such a different experience to me. How many miles had it done? Mine was a manual, and I took it from 18k to 25k miles. I love cars with peaky power delivery, had a couple of type R and an exige NA before it, and found the Cayman liked to rev just as much. The delivery was more linear, so not the same kick they had, but still very good. Most criticism of the 2.9 is lack of torque, which I find a nonsense anyway as it's a sports car.
  3. The trouble with the PH section is that there are some very strong opinions in there, and that most conversation seems to be about the latest and "best". Hundreds of threads about GT4, now the 718, etc.
  4. I respectfully disagree completely with this comment. It is an exciting engine, that loves to rev and sounds great. Better than the gen 1 2.7. On paper it is as quick as the gen 1 S but does require more work, which isn't a problem for me as that's part of the fun. I've just sold my 2.9 to fund a house purchase, but it's a cracking car and engine. Carnewal is a must have mod to open up the exhaust noise.
  5. Cayman 2.7. Similar pace to the early 350z but a massively better sports car. Get a suspension refresh and Carnewal exhaust and it would be a great car, without the reliability problems of the 996 or 3.4 cayman. Alternatively, you might find a gen 2 2.9 boxster, fantastic cars.
  6. I don't really understand how you can compare a V6 exige and an F-Type. Totally different cars. They might both be "cool" and both quick but that is where the comparison ends. One is a fast GT, and the Lotus a fairly hardcore sports car. I had an S2 exige for a bit and its a fantastic weekend car to take for a blast, but it's also difficult to live with in most normal situations. A Cayman R probably fits nicely between the 2.
  7. Octavia Scout. Why would you need anything else unless crossing Africa.
  8. A friend recently went looking at these and found them too small, got a Leon ST in the end, far more space, more power, better to drive and cheaper.
  9. Gen 2 cayman S, probably the best sports car you can get for that budget.

    Ferrari F430

Drove a 430 scuderia on track in Vegas a few months back, my Ferrari cherry and it was absolutely incredible, can still hear that noise!
  11. We've got a 1.4 FR ACT, mileage is at 16k miles since we got it new last october. It's an excellent car, drives very well, loads of equipment, well made and the engine delivers an economy/performance balance I didn't think was possible from a petrol. Its long term average is 47mpg and we have seen over 50mpg on longer runs. This is from a 1.4 turbo that doesn't feel much slower than my old Mk 5 Golf Gti in most driving. It's also so refined and quiet compared to the diesels we tried. We tried a 184bhp diesel, which was quick and a torque fest, but the petrol was just a much nicer drive if not quite as quick.

    Porsche Cayman

Sold my Zed last year and a Cayman will be my next car, I think a 2.9 Gen 2 is what I want. I expect it to be as quick as my zed due to less weight. I want something that enjoys revs more and feels a bit more nimble. The lower powered caymans seem to fit the bill, and the 2.9 potentially more reliable.
  13. Update, well the original sale didn't go ahead as I decided the keep the car a bit longer until my next car arrived, it's due in a couple of weeks so my Zed is back up for sale, let me know if interested in coming to view
  14. Lotus Exige, such a focused drive, although a pain to live with most of the time it more than made up for it on the right road.
  15. I have high hopes for this car, hopefully a return to form for Honda.
  16. Dropping off at about 7am this morning
  17. I only hear good things about Drive the deal, will be ordering a car though them soon. They put you in contact with dealer and you pay all money direct to the dealer. I'd be wary of any broker that takes payments through them.
  18. This afternoon, driving towards Fleet on Fleet Road
  19. I've decided to sell my 350z, full details and photos below 350Z GT UK car, not an import First Registered March 2004 Lower tax bracket than the 2006 onwards cars Azure blue 80,000 miles MOT – April 2015 3 Previous owners Full service history as follows:- Jan 2005 at 8,600 miles, Nissan Dec 2005 at 17,800 miles, Nissan Nov 2006 P1 service at 26,800 miles, Nissan Sep 2007 P3 service at 35,900 miles, Nissan Oct 2008 P1 service at 41,800 miles, Nissan Oct 2009 P2 service at 44,300 miles, Nissan Oct 2010 P1 service at 48,500 miles, Nissan Dec 2011 P3 service at 57,165 miles, Cougar Store (350z specialist) Dec 2012 P1 service at 67,165 miles, Cougar Store (350z specialist) Jan 2014 P3 service inc spark plugs at 76,000 miles, TGM Sport (Japanese specialist) In addition, it has also had the following work performed recently. New front and rear drop links Feb 2013 Rear tyres March 2013 New boot gas struts July 2013 Brakes – new front discs and pads, August 2013 Full wheel alignment by TGM Sport, Jan 2014 New wheel bearing May 2014 I have a folder full of paperwork, including the following:- Original sales invoice for £27,800 Supporting paperwork for every service performed and other work detailed above. Every MOT certificate I also have both keys for the car. Usual GT spec, xenon headlights, electric heated leather seats, Bose sound system, Brembo brakes, Rays alloys. It also has a boot divider which I believe was an option. It is a standard car with the exception of a stubby aerial and a Scorpian exhaust, this was fitted by a previous owner as the original had corroded. It sounds very similar to standard and is not invasive at all. In general, the bodywork is in very good condition, but it is a 10 year old car and therefore not perfect. The front has some stone chips due to the thin paint used, and there is a small bubble of paint on the lip of the bonnet due to a stone chip. I’m located in Fleet Hampshire, just off junction 4A of the M3. Test drives are fine if you are a serious buyer and have documented evidence of fully comprehensive insurance to drive the car, you cannot drive it without insurance or just 3rd party cover. Happy to answer any questions you have or provide extra pictures on request. £6,500 ovno. Thanks David
  20. well people clearly disagree with me then, I'll pick up my bag on the way out seriously though, I have no real world experience on a Zed against a EP3 so my perception on how fast the EP3 is based on a couple of years ago when I last had one, but to me the Zed feels only slightly quicker than the EP3 did. You guys who've obviously come up against one on a private race track clearly have a real world comparison On paper the EP3 has 167bhp/ton compared with 178bhp/ton on the 2004 Zed I have, that is not a big difference and certainly not enough to see a Zed off into the sunset! Obviously later Zed's have a bit more power. For me the joy of the Zed is a much more flexible engine, a lovely V6 sound and a balanced rear wheel drive chassis. However, I often wish it had a bit more at the top of the rev range like the EP3, along with the fantastic Honda gearbox and less weight. Then the Zed would be fantastic.
  21. The z isn't as good as a cayman s to drive but it shits on a civic type r from a great height. One is a front wheel drive family hatch back to other is a rwd sports car with a v6! Lol fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I prefer my zed to previous type R's, but to say it shits on them from a great height is a nonsense, different cars with different strengths and weaknesses.
