Jixaman Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Its not just mine then... The car looks tat when there like that (mine look just like oderuyter's, cept on a black car it looks even worse) ... Its just another thing on the long list of things to do (said with a smile as at least I'v started now)... Quote
Hirlehey Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Thanks for the guide and photos, now got mine off sanded (with dremel etc.) and put the first coat of acid etch primer on - fingers crossed! Quote
Randy_Baton Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Would there be any need to clear coat these? Quote
fellsteruk Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Would there be any need to clear coat these? I wouldn't as the OEM look isnt that way... but i guess if you wanted nothing stopping you Quote
WhackyWill Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Just been reading this thread as I need to do mine in the Spring, no too bad at the moment but starting to peel, quick question anybody used Black Hammerite paint its one of the hardest wearing paints you can get ?. Quote
fellsteruk Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 It's all in the prep, if you sand it down good and clean do plenty of primer base coats sanding them as you go then a few coats of black you should be good. I used almost a full can of primer and paint doing mine as I wanted a thick coat. Quote
RickyZ Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Painted mine over the weekend and just put back on the car. Looks great again thanks to this thread Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
DP7657 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Currently in the middle of trying this using Hammerite Satin Black. Very easy to get the blades off (5 minutes for a complete novice like myself) and I can confirm that I found the best way to be pushing down on the hinge / bend / arm of the blade to allow the main body to easily come off the screw / bolt, it then comes off easily with a bit of wiggling. Used 240 grit and a paint scraper to get the worst of it off, then gave it a good wipe down. Used masking tape to cover the inside of the arm on the back and all of the water piping and nozzles to save me having to remove the pins and tubing. You could say I am going for a half proper, half botch job. I'm sure plenty of people will be horrified to hear of this! Currently waiting for coat 3 to dry and then I will sand it down again with 800 - 1200 grit. Hopefully I'll add some pics and success stories later. Thanks to all who posted so far, this forum is a good chunk of why the Z is without doubt the best car I have ever owned. 1 Quote

Ceejay29 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Great thread. I'm not sure but presume mine will need restoration considering some of the photos on here. Going to give this a go at the weekend, will also have a bash at the plastic cover/grill beneath that houses the wipers. Quote
J4M3S Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Do you know how to take the pins out on the arm ? I want to do this but want to do all of if. Does anyone know how you get the pins out? Quote
J4M3S Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Didn't bother taking the pins out in the end and sprayed them as they where, still turned out great! I found removing and replacing the springs to be the hardest part though! Quote
valy Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 great thread...now time to get to work and sort mine as well Quote
Cyder Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Seems like a common issue! Might try to do mine this weekend too. Quote
larsdowg Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Great Thread, I bought a 2nd set of front wipers the other week so I could take my time doing them while the others stay on the car. Just attacked them with the Dremel as they are the same as mine (a real mess) Has anyone attempted to remove the 'Water jet washer nozzles' from the wiper arms (2 on one arm 1 on the other), seems like they could break easily. I was going to mask them off but if I could remove them all the better job. Any tips? Cheers Quote
valy Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 did mine last summer and they look great ,definitely recommended,as for the nozzles they do come off no problem Quote
larsdowg Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Valy do you remember how you removed them? Quote
valy Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) Valy do you remember how you removed them? as far as I remember you just unplug the T-piece that is on the underside of the wiper between the nozzles and then they should just slide off, after just follow the pattern of the small pipe while removing itthis might help as well http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/57062-removing-wiper-arms-for-respraying-pg-2-pics/ Edited March 22, 2017 by valy Quote
Flashback Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Definitely need to do this too..great guide Quote
modo Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Did mine over the winter too, etched primer and mat black plasticote, from Halfrauds. Big difference. Quote
Mik Du Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Mine were same, did them this weekend. Sorry I didn't get a before pic but they were same as all others in this thread, I followed pretty much same process as @fellsteruk. But I started at 60grit . Oxidisation was BAD on mine. I think satin black is the perfect finish (unless you are going super high gloss orange, haha) 1 Quote
