The car did stand up pretty well given the severity of the crash. (especially the roof). The other bmw in front is also pushing it. You can see him running wide one of the first corners...

 

That's what happens when you run out of road (and talent)..

To be fair that was totally avoidable... he wasn't even close to making the corner and it's not like an M3 handles badly. Must have been running mixed tyres! :p

impressed how the side airbag came up before the impact

Perhaps it was a sensor on the car that indicated suspension at full extension and no tarmac under the car while g-force is going downwards :shrug:

most likely some kind of a tilt switch linked with an acellorometer. possibly when the car is past 50 degrees side tilt at a set g forces the bag deploys
