offshore-drifter Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Mods... Could you make this a sticky please?? Well... Now i can tell you for a FACT!!! This worked!! Took me litterally 2 minutes! Pull the rubber trim off to give access to the rear plastic trim, pull the bottom of the trim outwards and carefully pull upwards and remove! Dont pull out too far though as theres an interior light on that pannel.. Once you have done that you will be at the latch! Loosen the 2 X 12mm nuts and move the latch down as far as it will go... Tighten up, put the trim back and test That will be a tenner please And the next person to waste money on new springs will get a slap!!! Haha Quote
Stutopia Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 +1 on pics Assist springs sorted mine, the some clown messed around with the rear bumper and now unfixed! Quote
offshore-drifter Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 Lol.... I will do when the weather dries up, that's no problem! I am crap with taking pics! The amount of how-to guides I could have done if I took more pics is un-unbelievable! I will give my car a quick clean when it's dry and update my 1st post with pics. Vlad Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Very nice! I've fixed my with 2p coins...nearly a year - and still good! But will have that in mind if 2p mod fails lol Quote
marzman Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) I've just tried this.... i can see that it will work for some as it feels like the boot is opening with more force now, but it's still not worked for me. Edited April 11, 2013 by marzman Quote
SteveW Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Thus far I've removed the weight and added some 2p coins. Will try this next. Hey I could buy some new struts but free fixes are always preferred lol. Quote
M13KYF Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 deleted duplicate thread and added image here. You may have to squint moved to guides Quote
offshore-drifter Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 Lol.... No idea why its being so gay! I will sort it out later Quote
SX Dave Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 This combined with the penny mod and weight removal should hopefully cure the issue for most. I just need some good weather to tinker with mine. Quote
leightonjames Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 This is weird, I had to put mine up as far as it would go. It wouldn't even shut with it pushed right down? Quote
SamN Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Tried this and it didn't fix it. What's this 2p mod? Edit: Found a guide for it! Here if anyone else was wondering. Edited November 24, 2013 by SamN 1 Quote
Joeycuz Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Had to LOL at this. Just went out there and thought "Here we go, another quick fix il mess up" resulting in alot of swearing and broken plastic. But guess what... NO! it worked a treat. Abit too easy as I got myself in the mood so now im looking for more things to fiddle with Thanks alot Quote
RobPhoboS Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Oooh, I forgot about this thread. Will try this over the weekend. Quote
saint Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Totally giving this a go at the weekend. My car came loaded with issues and a sticky boot was one, never knew it was so easy to fix! Quote
Adrian_CNC Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) I had a go at fixing my boot pop today. First changed the struts as the old ones tried to kill me this winter - no change to boot pop. Then followed this guide and moved the latch all the way down (moved about 2mm maybe) - again didn't fix the boot pop. Okay, time to remove the boot weight, after 15 mins of fighting with the plastic clips that hold the whole panel I managed to remove it without marking the edges too much by using some plastic bike tyre levers and a little plastic wedge/gap opener that I got with a phone mount. Guess what ... still didn't fix the bloody boot pop. Penny trick - last resort, I wanted to avoid it after reading that it can cause the lid to bend, crack the paint, etc. I've put a single penny under each boot spring but to make sure they don't wear through the rubber tube I've cut a "gasket" from a foam padded double sided 1mm thick tape (like the ones you use for fixing a reg plate to a bumper) and stuck that onto a penny. Made them slightly larger than the penny itself so that it covers the edges and pushed it into the rubber spring cover. Put the stops back together and voila - it did the trick, I can open the boot with one hand finally. Such a small thing but it did get on my nerves so I'm happy it's finally sorted. d95gas Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I have replaced the struts for heavy duty ones, purchased new Nissan poppers and still dont work, so will give this one a try next Quote
GreenLandy Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I've done everything and still doesn't work properly! (new struts, 2p trick, new springs/poppers, adjusting the catch, no weight). Just naff design. Springs need to be right near the catch imo Quote
russyb Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) This worked perfectly for me http://youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=e4fkqew1828 Edited April 7, 2016 by russyb Quote
