How about a nice little C180 sports coupe. Even better if you can get a pamarama evo..

Bought one for my mrs a couple of years back. Nice little runner, fairly econmical, nippy, not unattractive. Really miss her :(

 

 

By the way I'm talking about the car, not my mrs !!!! :lol:

Yup, mines dones us proud over the last 18 months :)

 

Funnily enough I nearly went with one just before I got the zed - but hate the driving position - it was a bit 'sit up and beg' for me :shrug: I had another look at them last night but would need to go for very high mileage to be anywhere near price range

Vik, check the MPG on all the cars carefully.

 

Things like Hyundai coupes are thirstier than they look.

 

I can get 28 out the Zed driving normally so it really has to be 40+ mpg to make a noticeable difference.

Yup - I know am dreaming with the Pug - looks like it'll average 30mpg :dry::lol: and the BMW isn't much better

 

Its going to end up being a freakin Focus or a Fiesta isn't it?

the 1.9 engine in the e46 is terrible. High mileage BMW's arent really expensive to maintain at all provided you dont go to bmw. The 320i wont be to bad on fuel.

Vik do not get a pug......or anything French apart from maybe a Citroen! Utter shite.

 

The new focus has a Peugeot engine in it......my ford specialist mech said he can guarantee that none will see passed 70k without major problems or catastrophic engine failure.

 

Apparently the sump is in a W shape with the sump plug at the top of the middle bit of the W......meaning 2 pools of crap collect with every fresh oil change.

 

Dull as the are if it s only a temp fix........bimmer don't do much wrong and it's powered from the right end

Now you see everyone gets their knickers in a twist when it comes to french engines - but aren't we all ultimately driving around on great big French lumps in the zed? :shrug: albeit backed up by Japanese tricks but hey they can't all be terrible...

oh god is going to have to be another Vauxhall isn't it? :lol: **puts sensible boring hat and Bridget Jones knickers on and slinks away quietly...*

Its a joke in work how anti French I am with cars but in a company over over 100 I know at least 10 peopl with French cars that have had a bloody nightmare......hilarious thing is they all think it's normal and buy French again whilst proclaiming that they've had 'no trouble with it!'..........apart from the egr valve, coil packs, electric windows, eml on all the bloody time, ESP stuck on........on and on and on.

sounds just like my Astra since it hit 80k it has had all of the above problems apart from windows... and the air con stinks of cabbage no matter what I do - it was cleaned and recharged last year and made no difference :blink:

Its hit and miss TBH. My brother had a 306 1.9td and a 106 gti both which went wrong all the time. My 172 has been in the garage less than the german cars its shares the drive with. Ive done 40k miles in it and its great. Powerful too and will average 35mpg.

Maybe its only new Peugeots then or Peugeot petrols which are dodgy? Our 2003 307HDI now has 120k on it and still going strong, cost me less to maintain than my VW Golf did - £10 in 40k miles isnt bad at all for parts. Prior to that we had a Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel which I had from 80k up to 170k and engine was still going strong. My brother has a 1998 Peugeot 306 D Turbo which hes had from 50k, now its showing 120k on it, still going strong. My ex gf has a 2000 306 HDI which she has done about 40k on, now at 120k without any problems.... and so on.
