haynesml Posted October 6, 2011 Share Posted October 6, 2011 Just had a new roof fitted today on my convertible along with its first service. Had a small wear mark on the side, the roof had been hitting a mounting when the roof folded away. Got it done under warranty and the garage seem to have done a good job, had the car for three days. PGraham002 Posted October 7, 2011 Author Share Posted October 7, 2011 the problem with the roof, and I think this is a design fault, is that the edge of the window catches on the roof fabric, there should be the rubber seal around the window and then at a uniform distance the roof fabric, so as you open the door, the window drops and the edge of it catches the fabric as you pull the door open,. On mine this has pulled the fabric away from the narrow stitching (and has frayed). This is in the hands of nissan warrenty. But i went to a dealer and had a look at a brand new car and the passenger door on that one does the same . I thinkthis is a design fault and I think Nissan may have a serious problem with it. Unfortunately I have looked at BMW and Mercedes roofs and you dont get this problem as the roofs are perfectly 'carved', but maybe this is a problem buying a Nissan. One person said the window does not 'drop' quick enough before you pull the door out. Please checvk your doors on yours 370Z roadsters and see if they catch.. haynesml Posted October 7, 2011 Share Posted October 7, 2011 When I went to the dealer and told them I wanted a new roof putting on I mentioned that I had read on forums in the states that people had, had bad / shoddy work done and had to go back with the roof for it to be corrected. Dealer was very good said the GTR specialist would do the work. Must admit I was apprehensive going to pick the car up but on the face of it, it looks like the roof when new. Fitment looks good and tried the roof a couple of times and appears to work ok and all fits back into place. I am going to have a good look round it this weekend just to make sure. I am sure that I read on the US forums that Nissan had issued a TSB re the door catching the roof on the edges and that there was a fix for this. Chris`I Posted October 9, 2011 Share Posted October 9, 2011 If you look on the US forums you'll see the vast range of stuff you can find in the boot in different countries. They've basically made the cutouts so they can store everything that each country where the 370z is sold can fit. In the US they get the spare tyre, but in this country its not mandatory so we get a can of tyre weld and a bit of a hole left where the wheel is. Ebized Posted October 9, 2011 Share Posted October 9, 2011 You lot have been done - I've got a spacesaver in my 370 Its a 350 spacesaver - fits the well once the foam fill is removed and the Bose sub fits inside the wheel. Jack and handle added and I also carry the torque wrench (you can see in the pic) for peace of mind. Fronts need 20mm spacers for the 350 spacesaver to fit over the 370 calipers but straight fit on the rear but as I run with the spacers on - no issue for me there. Theoretically, if you got a front puncture you could put a rear wheel on the front (I have tried it and it works without fouling anything) and the then the spacesaver on the rear as an emergency get you home job but would not recommend it - carrying a spacer would be much better. Yeah, I know about the extra weight but like Lee I would rather have a wheel to get me home, than rely on the puncture being a tiny hole that the gel supplied might fix but then I gather is likely to render the tyre u/s even if the puncture could be repaired. Only reason the gel is still there is for when I come to sell the car, without the spacesaver most likely. The pump I find really good for the odd topping up, as invariably garage air machines are out of action Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
